I loved staying with Serge and Catherine, they are such lovely people and they did really help me a lot, both with practicalities as ordering taxis when needed, but also important advice on how to stay safe as a lone traveller in Praia. There was a power cut in Praia on the same morning that I was leaving and my flight was cancelled at the same time, Serge even lent me his internet so that I could buy a new ticket. The rooms are really nice and it really felt like it is important for Serge and Catherine that I was enjoying myself. Oh and the breakfast is fantastic. I can't recommend this place enough!

We stayed at this small guest house for just two nights and were attracted by the opportunity to stay in a quiet part of Praia. Serge and Catherine were as welcoming as all the other reviewers say - and in just a few conversations they shared their love, commitment and knowledge of all things Cape Verdean.

Our large en-suite room was spotlessly clean with a double bed and wardrobe etc and a balcony. Bathroom was huge - you need to supply your own toiletries: we had a couple of minor plumbing issues but these things happen. We had plenty of hot water but as with everywhere else in Cape Verde, visitors are urged to understand that water as a very precious resource.

We enjoyed having the balcony and also used the lovely private sun-terrace at the top of the house to chill out at the end of the day. Breakfasts were excellent with lovely fresh bread, fruit juice and fruit and local delicacies for us to try out. Serge was on hand to guide us through our sight-seeing choices encouraging us to do the more unusual trips and be adventurous.

The B&B is walking distance from the plateau and from several restaurants and once we figured out where to stop, we caught local buses which are a great way to get into the culture. It was also easy to get taxis (which just seem to appear from no where). This B&B is great value for money, safe and friendly and much better than staying in a characterless hotel.

This family-run guesthouse in a quiet Praia neighbourhood is an excellent introduction to Cape Verde. The owners, French expats Catherine and Serge, are people truly devoted to the country who can explain and advise on all matters regarding travel, accommodation, customs, culture and history. They know their adopted homeland very well and love it to bits.

The rooms are impeccably clean and imaginatively decorated. The owners will gladly go out of their way to please their guests and make everyone feel at home. My wife and I spent four of five days at this establishment as part of our honeymoon trip and would certainly stay nowhere else in Praia if we visited again.

The owners' warmth and hospitality have made this a unique and memorable experience!

Unfortunately we had to change our arrival date by 5 days - may be this caused the problem although the change was approved by the owner: We reached the guesthouse at 2am and were guided into a shared room with two beds that faced an inner courtyard with walls several floors high. The room was heated up as it was obviously rarely used and ventilated. We asked to switch on the air conditioner - which was b.t.w. offered in the ad as being included in the rate - but were denied by whatever reason, presumably because power is said to be rather costly in Cape Verde; hence it became an extremely hot and due to a lot of mosquitoes a very uncomfortable night. When other guests checked out in the morning we expected a change to a friendlier front room, as firstly offered in the confirmation - a deceitful hope. The owner's lady said that we were anyway too noisy and could/should? leave after breakfast. Because checkout time is noon and we firstly had to inquire where to go, we used the free internet (free = according to the ads). It hasn't taken long until the owner's lady pointed out that the use of the internet is just for messages as it would be too expensive in the Cape Verde islands because it's charged by MBytes. Finally we changed the accommodation and found another more centrally located one to even better conditions - at least with AC, own fridge and bathroom. If a potential guest doesn't want to be referred to a sticky room without view and without appropriate table, he should make sure that he doesn't choose the rooms named "Sao Tome" and "Itaparica", otherwise his holidays will be spoiled completely.

The location was perfect to me: outside the city centre between the local residents, but still within the walking distance from the Plateau. The staff was really friendly, the bedroom was cozy, breakfast was enjoyable, and the price was relatively low compared to other options. Highly recommended! Thank you Serge and Catherine for your hospitality.

This is a very nice, small hotel with a familiar flair. Serge and his wife took excellent care of us. Not only did they share good places to visit on the island and organize transport, but also invited for aperitif and relaxed talk in the 'living room'. The fact that the hotel is not located in the center of town did not bother us too much and a beach is close. Definitely a good choice!

Stayed in this hotel, O Jardim Do Vinho, during a trip in May. I think the other place to look is not necessary. Nice hotel, with its own atmosphere, beautiful rooms, for those who do not like the standard solutions. In walking distance to a nice beach, one of the best. Until Plateau taxi quickly.
Serge and Catherine to her guests are taken very carefully. Always happy to help and answer any question. Very friendly. You can arrange tours of the island.
And listen to the wonderful music of Cape Verde!

We spent 2 nights--3 days in Praia to make an international flight connection. The island is the most diverse but does not offer much for the average tourist. Praia as such is not very interesting as a tourist destination. That said, people are friendly, there is a free wifi hotspot in town, and the town feels relatively safe and very clean.
In order to avoid large, mostly business hotels, we chose the B&B Wine garden. The atmosphere is very nice and Serge and Catherine make you feel at home. We arrived early but Serge escorted us to our room right away. The rooms are very clean, although basic, and toilet/bathroom is across the hall. We are 6'3" (188) and the mattress was a bit small and short. The big plus, we did not hear any barking stray dogs at night that keep you up all night.
Breakfast was nice--Portuguese style. Most of the tourists are French but are either willing and/or able to communicate in English. Overall, a very pleasant stay.
The B&B is a bit out of the center but a quick 2 Euro taxi ride will get you home quickly.

OK place for a short stay in Praia. Very friendly and helpful owners. If needed, they can arrange a taxi for driving one day around Santiago island, ideal option if you have to wait for your flight back home. The hotel itself is in one of the more quiet areas of the town, but still within reach of the centre.

This lovely place makes you feel very welcome! The rooms are simple, but clean and spacious. Breakfast is being served by the lovely Reinhilda in the nice patio with banana trees. On the roof is also a very nice terrace with relax beds; one can soak up some sun up there! Both hosts, Serge and Catherine, are very nice persons. They speak French, English, Portuguese and Creole. They will help you with all your questions and have plenty of nice travel advice. Everything is done to make you feel at ease!

This B&B is situated at the edge of a neighboorhood with embassies and restaurants. There are plenty of nice places to eat, but you have to plan ahead where to go. Otherswise you won't find them. Take advice from your hosts on where to go and where to stay away. The atmosphere is very vibrant: you will hear people practising their drums every evening!

We liked the lovely landscape of Praia and surroundings. Nevertheless we were not impressed with the city center (Plateau). Rather exlore the rest of the island: beautiful nature and very nice people!
