I loved staying with Serge and Catherine, they are such lovely people and they did really help me a lot, both with practicalities as ordering taxis when needed, but also important advice on how to stay safe as a lone traveller in Praia. There was a power cut in Praia on the same morning that I was leaving and my flight was cancelled at the same time, Serge even lent me his internet so that I could buy a new ticket. The rooms are really nice and it really felt like it is important for Serge and Catherine that I was enjoying myself. Oh and the breakfast is fantastic. I can't recommend this place enough!
OK place for a short stay in Praia. Very friendly and helpful owners. If needed, they can arrange a taxi for driving one day around Santiago island, ideal option if you have to wait for your flight back home. The hotel itself is in one of the more quiet areas of the town, but still within reach of the centre.
This lovely place makes you feel very welcome! The rooms are simple, but clean and spacious. Breakfast is being served by the lovely Reinhilda in the nice patio with banana trees. On the roof is also a very nice terrace with relax beds; one can soak up some sun up there! Both hosts, Serge and Catherine, are very nice persons. They speak French, English, Portuguese and Creole. They will help you with all your questions and have plenty of nice travel advice. Everything is done to make you feel at ease! This B&B is situated at the edge of a neighboorhood with embassies and restaurants. There are plenty of nice places to eat, but you have to plan ahead where to go. Otherswise you won't find them. Take advice from your hosts on where to go and where to stay away. The atmosphere is very vibrant: you will hear people practising their drums every evening! We liked the lovely landscape of Praia and surroundings. Nevertheless we were not impressed with the city center (Plateau). Rather exlore the rest of the island: beautiful nature and very nice people!…
This is a very friendly hotel with excellent breakfasts. The owners are welcoming and helpful in finding your way around. The area is not spectacular but security in the hotel is good and we had no concerns about walking in the area. Local barbecue restaurants are only 100 metres from the hotel and serve great fish and meats.
The Owners, Serge and Catherine, are very friendly and supportive. They explained everything in and around the house, Praia, and even gave recommendations for stays in other parts of the islands. The rooms are nice, clean, and the breakfast is simply delicious. You can walk to the beaches, some nice restaurants are around the corner. If we return to Praia, O Jardim Do Vinho would be the first choice.
We spent 4 nights in this questhouse in Praia. We were very pleased with the warm welcome of the owners. We very much appreciated the help of Serge to explain the best places to visit in Praia and surroundings.
I'd like to thank Serge and Catherine once for welcoming us in their lovely little house. We stayed in the room "Djerba", big and nicely appointed with its own bathroom ensuite. The atmosphere of the house was great and Serge gave us tips to spend some time around Praia. Breakfast is a solid B+. Location is different from where we also stayed in Praia (plateau and sea front) but still very nice and close to some great churasquarias if you like barbecue. Overall a 4 star experience , great value for money.
The location was perfect to me: outside the city centre between the local residents, but still within the walking distance from the Plateau. The staff was really friendly, the bedroom was cozy, breakfast was enjoyable, and the price was relatively low compared to other options. Highly recommended! Thank you Serge and Catherine for your hospitality.
My stay in O Jardim Do Vinho was amazing. Serge and Catherine are very welcoming and friendly and make you feel right at home. I arrived late in the night in Praia and Serge waited for me to show me my room. They can also give you helpful advice about what to do in Praia or how to get an aluguer to get to the rest of the island. The rooms are nicely decorated, each one has its colors and own style. You can also relax on the terrace on the roof at the end of the day. And the breakfast is really good, with nice capverdian music on the terrace, a good way to start the day ! I loved my stay and wish I can come back soon !
Although the cheapest hotel/bed-n-breakfast in town that I could find, this place is well beyond many others regarding its qualities. Price, in 2014, is 4000 Escudos, circa 40€, per night for a double room, breakfast included. The owners and the staff are lovely, facilities running fine and very clean, food and drinks are great (and cheap). Serge (the owner) gives amazing & very clear indications & tips abt the town, the island, and the country, etc. Cherry on top, the owners run a little musical cafe next to the hotel, where some awesome local musicians come to play. p.s. arriving at night is not a problem at all
