The beach is really one hand away, I watched the sunrise at the downstairs terrace, it was remarkable! The beaches for swimming are also 5-10 mins by car, as well as great beach bars and restaurants who open until late and accept cards too. The staff was lovely, patient with me, even more the boss. They take personal care of hosts and are very helpful, interested and nice. Its really a 'guest house', where the guest has the priority. Let that be a late night arrival, they were still peaceful and nice. I have to mention the world class wifi connection too! As well as there is a trusted taxi service - besides you should have some EUR or Escudo in the pocket, card is not accepted for that. Good level of English they have, we could have many intelligent discussions too, not only praxtical. They knew a lot about my country too, despite that is not the biggest one, they were knowledgeable in this too. Culturally they used to prep a lot I think, maybe for each remote guest. Perfect ambient, clear and hot water, just good weather, happy, funny and relaxed locals around and still no crowd. The guy who offered the umbrella and sun bed to be rented (1 of the 2 sets so I felt myself a VIP :D )...He was friendly too. There is Baywatch too, ie a coastal guard service. Also police was around so it looks to be safe too., at least during daylight. At night I felt it less safe due to the dark and loud locals. More light on the beach and 1 policeman on the spot eg until midnight might be helpful. What may go better: 1. At least 1 chair would be good in each room. 2. At least a few amenities, treatments, like some shower gel, neither a soap was there. No towels neither. Even more as its a hot country with beaches.. I mean I had these all in my bag, and maybe if I ask for them I get any of these, but these have to be in the room by standard. Without extra steps. Would this all be not more than cca some few EUR investment per person, but would show other than this empty, or 'used' room. 3. Cleaning of all insects-bugs should neither be delegated to the guest, but done by hosts, before it arrives. That makes a bit strange view if some greets is on the curtain. 4. As well as 1 bottle of water at least for the arriving, you can imagine how exhausted the guests can be after midnight, and after eg 2+4 hrs flights in the 30 degree. I got 1 of course when asked, but why these are not given at the arrival. And no misunderstandings, the staff is still exceptional, so its just about the need of further researches for them, how to prep for a guest coming. The following parts were excellent. And I just want to make sure they will stand out of the even more similar but less Customer centric or guest-loving Airbnbs or small hotels. Who provide these minimum amenities but nothing else, not this spirit and extra. Maresia deserves to be the highest rated! As the harder achievable extra, the 5* hospitality mindset of how to treat the Customer the best, is already owned by them. And so small to be done for the other, simpler part. Actually somewhere it is known as hostel, where this is OK to have less or no amenities, but in a Guesthouse its already a requirement. In Booking its a Guesthouse and they also call themselves like that. Only a little extra step and it can easily be at least a 3 stars Hotel if it wants. The potential is there in it, even more the remote location and ocean-facing views can be a pro for many, not only a disadvantage of the need of taxi or car without other options. OK, walking may also be possible to the closes beaches but not in 30 degrees, after exhausting flights, etc.

This hostel is about 2.5 miles /4 KM from Plateau of Old Town Praia. It is located on the outskirts area of the city called ''Cidadela.'' In a residential area, the place is hard to find as many taxi drivers didn't know where it was located nor is a sign posted of the place. The Hostel is located on the shores of Praia in which one could listen to the waves at night. There are three rooms with queen beds, then there is the dorm bunks in another room. rates included breakfast. This Hostel has a pool as well yet the area was frequently used for parties/weddings so it could get a little noisy. The staff in the kitchen gave me Kriol Food that was made at the premises for the events. The manager Paolo promptly answered any questions or requests to have a good stay . Rooms are clean, basic no frills with bed, bathroom, shower. The wifi had a good connection at no charge. You can hear the waves crash at night if you get a room which wasn't much more then the dorm. Cost for a taxi to the airport is around $10.00 USD / 8 Euro. takes about 15 minutes. To the old town is about $5.00 USD/ 4 Euro. There are a few ATM's, Restaurants in the area with a few small markets as well for basic goods.
