I stayed in YWCA and the Safari Inn, which are both mentioned in Lonely Planet, and YWCA is definitely the better option! It's cheap, clean, quiet and in a convenient location: it's right beside the minibus-station "new posta", next to kisutu street aka little india with a lot of cheap and good eateries and major banks are around the corner...

The staff here is great, helpful and welcoming. Rooms are quite basic, but clean, have mosquito nets and a ceiling fan. Showers are cold, but are clean and work well. Area is convenient, walkable distance from the ferry and different neighborhoods to eat.

The hostel itself is reasonably good for what you pay for, clean room, mosquito nets but you're not in a very good part of town. We were mugged in a taxi right around the corner and these are becoming more and more common. I would advise spending a bit more money and heading out of town a little bit. If...

Basic yes. Clean yes. Great location. Yes. Safe. Yes. The YWCA was a great place to stay if you can live without the luxuries of expensive hotels. We ended up coming through Dar 3 times during the time in Tanzania and all three times stayed at the YWCA. The breakfast was simple and not much food but it also cost...

Though the ywca is nothing special, it was absolutely perfect for me. I was a volunteer teacher about 4 hours from Mwanza on the other side of the country but frequently traveled through Dar. I always stayed at the Y. The ladies at the front desk were always so friendly and loved when you could use your swahili with them....

The YWCA offers VERY basic accommodations. When I first arrived, my expectations were of an American YMCA, so I was really disappointed and started looking around for other hotels. After a few days, I adjusted and enjoyed my stay. We had a room for 3 guys. The beds were okay. The mosquito nets were much appreciated. The shower was cool,...

Ywca is a super cheap super basic place. Sheets were clean, mosquito nets new, we had a sink, two closets, two beds, two chairs. Good location, close to ferry and a big bus stop. It was a bit noisy, but we slept through it. Cafeteria downstairs, basic breakfast included and basic other meals for not much money. We really enjoyed...

Armed with the Village people's song stuck in my head I headed to the YMCA, unfortunately it was fully booked. I headed to the YWCA instead and was suprised by the large building. Not very pretty. The street around it is a little dark so it might not be a good idea to exit alone there at night, the beds...

I had a single room and it's just a bed with net, sink, table, mirror, chair and wardrobe but what more do you really need? I have stayed here twice and my single room was just 15,000 TSH (no reservation required). They also have dorm rooms for 10,000 TSH. The receptionist is very friendly and even remembered me on my...

Very poor and basic. Dorms for 7$ pp. cold water in the shower (but it is so hot in Dar, so it's fine..), mosquito nets with holes, bed bags (didn't bite me!), and so much noise!! The breakfast is included and very basic. Although its not that good- its better than YMCA across the street. You get the same things...
