We stayed here in the beach chalets, and it was an awful nights sleep. Our accommodation had one wall and three sides of just metal wiring. The beds have no sleeping sheets, just the base sheet. Mosquito nets had holes and the bar is so loud as there is no walls at all. Showers were cold and salty. Wifi didn't...

We stayed at the beach resort for a week. The lodges are cosy for couples to stay. The staff is really friendly and helpful. The weather was pleasant for the first few days. But when the winds stopped it became extremely humid with long electricity cuts. That made the stay difficult. The washroom wasnt ok for me as I expected...

Ocean-side in Kigamboni – the neck before heading further south to the better beaches – you need to take a small 10-15min cross -channel ferry from Dar Es Salaam to reach Mikadi (not to be confused with the bigger types that trawl the route to Zanzibar, but walking distance from that terminal). The ferry is super cheap (TZS500 or something...

Its a Campers Paradise, the Staff are very friendly and the host (Lucho) is very helpful. We took the Bandas with sharing Washrooms and they were pretty decent. Ambiance is warm and welcoming. I guess one would also enjoy with a Family as long as you have a Campers attitude.

Meetings finished early in Dar so decided to have a night out away from the city and explore the south coast. I booked a banda with an en suit (at the back of the property). Great day spent on the beach - perfect relaxation before I go back home to my 9 month old and the lack of sleep that...

I stayed here for one night during my overland trip with my group. It was impossible to sleep (in my tent) as there was loud music blaring all night. While I do not expect luxurious showers anywhere in Africa, these were the worst. No fresh water. Too bad, because it was so hot and humid while we were there. The...

Our Tazara train was 10 hours late so we arrived at Mikadi at the rediculous time of 2am on 1 Jan 2016. No problem for the owner who graciously showed us to the camp site. The showers are nice and huge but only produce a trickle of water and only cold salty sea water. That is the worst thing about...

Went to Mikadi to chill out for the day; great atmosphere, comfy social setting, set on a beautiful strip of beach used by locals and tourists alike. There's a well stocked bar and a quality arts and crafts store on site; selling high quality local artists' and artisans' work; unlike much of the generic, cartoony stuff sold elsewhere.

While living in Dar es Salaam, we came here often in the weekends to relax. It has a really chilled out vibe with bandas right on the beach and a white beach that will remind you of tropical travel brochures. The owners and staff are really friendly, the place is safe and we used to bring our own tent, which...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Mikadi Beach Lodge derives its name from the Mikadi tree which thrives along the beautiful Tanzanian coastline. Jo (Zimbabwean) & Lucho (Chilean) married and owner/managers, took over the lodge in February 2008 and since then have embarked on a complete refurbishment of the place. If you have your heart and soul in a place this emanates to staff and clients alike. We are in love with Mikadi and that shows in everything we do to make your stay with us both enjoyable and memorable. They say location is everything and we are in the perfect location! We are only 15 / 20 mins from the Zanzibar ferry so ideally placed for those travellers wanting to visit Zanzibar. ... more   less

“You want to rest take the room with the ensuite. You want to party take the standard. I tried both and had a belter of a weekend and still got to work on time Monday. Hahaha.”

“Fact is that I didn't use the room much. Haha spent most of the night / morning sipping killi and whiskey, swimming in the pool then watched the sun come up, then spent most of the next day snoozing in the hammock. Hahahah Classic night. If you need rest go for the upgrade with ensuite. If your going to party take the standard room as it is right in the beach.”
