Maria is very proud to be the 4th generation owner of her historic family hotel and proves it with exceptional service, a very clean and comfortable facility, and a welcoming, unique atmosphere. Breakfast in the restaurant was very delicious and our servers most pleasant. The Living Waters Guatemala Project team only stayed one night, but we will definitely return again.

This quiet, historic, comfortable place is our "treat" stay on visits to Guatemala. A tad more expensive than some, it it more than worth the extra expense. Staff are always polite and helpful, but not obtrusive. Rooms are a little dark, but clean and adequate with real hot water in the shower. Beds with lovely and warm Momostenango wool blankets....

Checkin was quick and easy and the staff is very friendly. Initially the internet did not work, but when I told them, they rebooted the router and all was perfect from then on. Hot shower with 2 faucets (as opposed to the single faucet usually seen in Guatemala). Wonderful breakfast with several choices. The bed was very comfortable.

The hotel design and details are outstanding. It takes you back in time without leaving the comfort of modern days. Service is exceptional and breakfast is great. Each room is very nice also. Definitely surpassed my expectations.

In my 20+ years of traveling this hotel is among the top two worst hotels I've stayed at in the world, and the worst in Guatemala. Xela does not have that many hotel options and this one actually is much more HOSTEL than hotel. I entered to check in and saw the dark lobby and all its tired furnishings and...

Over the last year I've been coming to Xela every few weeks for work. The Hotel Modelo is my first choice. Maria Eugenia, Jose, Marla and the rest of those working at the hotel are always extremely welcoming and helpful. The hotel is superbly located just a few blocks from the historic center. The rooms are basic but very comfortable...

Decent location, I assume one of the more luxurious ones in xela. Not the cheapest accommodationm. We preferred this over hostel stays. Clean and safe. Friendly staff. Very good location close to city center

I love this place. Even it is an old hotel, it has been fully refurnished. The service is excellent. It is very well located, close to everything in Xela. Try the vegetarian breakfast. Highly recommended.

It has the feel of another, kinder, less stressful age: the staff are charming, the rooms are adequate (a good word used by another reviewer), the central location is excellent -- so too is the value. An altogether good experience.

Stayed here for over a week as part of a workshop. The family that owned the hotel was incredibly accommodating for all of us, providing great breakfasts each morning and bar service in the afternoons. Rooms were clean, showers were hot, and the hotel has a very nice, historical atmosphere. The owners are also great at setting up transportation and...
