Been volunteering here for just over a month at present and couldn't be more in love with the place. Located on a small island full of life and culture, the Iguana offers a little traveller's haven a 5 minute walk away from the idyllic town proper. Every night there's a cheap family style dinner cooked by a couple of local... More

So this is my first stay at Casa de la Iguana.....first and foremost I have to say the staff and atmosphere is great. Coming here and knowing that it was a party hostel I was prepared for loud music and perhaps some drunken debauchery. So I was pleasantly surprised when I arrived they reiterated this fact and told me that... More

We stayed for two nights in a private double room and both nights were kept awake by the noise of two mice going through our snacks. Volunteers were nice and welcoming, owner lady not so much as she just ordered one of the volunteers to help with our request without even looking at us. The rum and coke was served... More

Thank you very much for the review. I am extremely concerned about your comment that you were told the cost was 120Q per person. It is not. The cost is 120Q for the room, not per person. Please can you contact me personally as soon as possible (my personal email is christopher.b.rea@gmail.com) so that we can investigate and issue a... More

Me and my friend were here for two nights. The vibe of the place is great and it looks really nice! Staff was friendly. We stayed in a dorm room, which was a bit too cramped for me. It also didn't feel very clean. Mosquito nets (if they were present) were quite damaged so not very useful. Showers and toilets... More

Set in a green, lush courtyard off the main road, the Iguana sports a series of thatched roof wooden cabins / Cabañas and an outdoor patio great for relaxing and meeting other travellers. Accommodations are basic backpacker style for low maintenance folk and a daily dinner tops it all off at a competitive price for those who don't want to... More

Since season was "slow" according to staff we got a good price and decided to opt for the bungalow with private bath. One of the volunteers who ran the place at night gave us a quick but warm welcome and we sat down with the crew for an happy hour beer. Other guests had dinner which looked pretty good. Unfortunately,... More

Whilst I hate to agree with a 2 star review, and I am sorry you felt the place was not quite adequate, but you are right. The some of the bungalows are in need of upgrading and we know it. We are starting significant upgrades on them which will be finished soon. This will take care of the issues you... More

Best party hostel I have ever been too! Every one was super friendly and good craic, we were greeted at the dock by two super friendly local men, who were eager but not pushy, to get us to come to the hostel. With a quick look at each other we said why not, and followed the dudes to the hostel.... More

Thanks! I'm glad you had a great time and I really appreciate you taking the time to give us a review. We are very careful about who we let on the property now, but we are changing policies about visitors on the property, so next time you come that should be a non-issue. Safe travel and have a great life! More

Perfect place to explore rio dulce, livingston and environment. Staff is just great, helpful and real fun. Cheap dorms, good breakfast and the place to meet people/play games. Be sure to visit the 7 lagunes, easy to reach by foot by 1.5 hour walk. If you're not into walking, you can book a tour, also to plenty of other destinations.

I stayed in the dorm and it was a bit like staying in a garden shed in a swamp. It was clean enough and I did manage to get a decent nights sleep. You pay via a tab system at the end of your stay, so be careful if you are racking up the beers or shots. There are nicer... More

So sorry you didn't have a great time like the vast majority of ours guests. It is rainy season, so the slightly swampy thing going on in parts of the garden is hard to avoid, but it keeps everything green, lush, and growing and provides valuable habitat for a lot of wildlife. We do encourage our guests to check their... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Casa de la Iguana is a fabulously famous party hostel for fun and friendly happy travellers. It is set in a jungle garden with awesome wooden cabins and dormitories all unique and worth the extra Q for a good nights sleep. We may not be the cheapest in Livingston but we pride ourselves on having handmade lockers in each dorm, comfortable beds, spacious private rooms, superb wifi for Skyping and calls home, great social staff and fantastic fun most evenings, especially when a lively Happy Hour involved. There is fantastic free wifi. the best in Livingston actually, as well as an international book exchange. We also arrange tours to Belize, La Ceiba, Siete Altares, Playa Blanca and Rio Dulce and recently added, our own very exciting Tiger Cave trip and Fishing (eat what you catch). Spanish Lessons available too. We have a great reputation for our parties but it happens when we have a great bunch of people too! Come see us soon, meet other like-minded free spirits. ... more   less
