Staff were horrible. The location was great. But a great hotel is when you have both the people and the facilities both intersect. For example, Unfortunately for me, I ate something outside and felt sick so went back to the hotel. My wife later in the day went out to get me some healthy food options. We'll, the hotel argued and would not let a man (me) who had fever and vomiting from getting food to my room! I would not ever go back to this hotel.

The gardens are magnificent ! They are so very well cared for & breathtaking. The front desk staff was very welcoming . Our room was incredible with so many artistic touches & a terrace overlooking the lake & gardens. However the bonus was Juan Carlos the bartender at the hotel . He made us feel so special & created artisan cocktails. We had a delicious dinner in the cozy bar area. The next day… we dined on the deck by the pool & were so happy to have Juan Carlos as our waiter. The staff are wonderful! I also liked the macaws in the gardens.

We stayed here for 2 nights this week and was blown away at the decor, the endless gardens, and the restaurant. To see the property one must give it time to discover each nook and cranny as every one of them has fine attention to detail and sweet surprises around every corner. They are doing a lot of work near the water so I’d like to see the result of that as the facility is meticulously maintained. The rooms are well appointed, (no ability to connect a streaming service in our room, not terrible). The view from the balcony was wonderful. The restaurant was wonderful and had impeccable service. The front desk helped us get transport to town and back to Guatemala City easily. I hope to visit again soon

Our 2 night stay at Hotel Atitlan should have been longer. The hotel is beautiful with spectacular views and staff who make sure your stay in enjoyable. Our room was on the 2nd floor at the end of the corridor; the balcony overlooked the gardens with the lake and volcanos in the background. It was quiet, romantic, perfect. The food was delicious and the bar well stocked. The staff was very friendly, courteous and professional and ensured we enjoyed our stay. While there we met the owner of the hotel Dona Sue and enjoyed talking with her. If we return to the area we will stay at Hotel Atitlan. Thank you for the wonderful time we spent at your hotel.

Hotel- So I’m writing this review so that I can easily remember to tell people about this great hotel. We did not stay here, but came for breakfast. Hotel Atitlan is a bit out of the way, so it was necessary to take a tuk tuk (20Q) from the main area of Pana. When we arrived, my sister and I sighed and knew right away that we wish we had stayed here. The unobstructed view of the lake is stunning. The pool and infinity hot tub with lounge chairs looked blissful. All the rooms have balconies overlooking the lake. Breakfast - I’ve been in Guatemala for 2 weeks and this was by far the best meal I’ve had. The staff was delightful, inviting and attentive. The food was delicious and plentiful. Amenities- there is a private dock for excursions out on the lake. The hotel can make those arrangements. It all looked very simple.

I had a wonderful experience at Hotel Atitlan. The decor of the entire hotel is beautiful. There are two phenomenal gardens on the property. Since the hotel is on the lake, the views are beautiful and it’s easy to access boats. What sets this hotel apart, however, is the hardworking staff. I was lucky enough to spend two nights here. On my first night, I went to the pool for sunset. I could not believe what incredible service was provided by Teodoro Ajquijay. I asked him his name so that I could acknowledge him in my review. I have never seen a more hard-working, dedicated server. The pool area was quite busy, and he quickly and effectively managed multiple tables, provided towels, cleaned the area and helped take photos when asked. When I moved into the dining room for dinner, I was even more impressed by his service. He is truly an outstanding server. When I went to breakfast the next morning, he took care of my table, with the same great professional service as the night before. Bravo, Teodoro Ajquijay, my experience with you changed my review of the hotel from 4 stars to 5!

The pool, views, and gardens were lovely. The rooms were adequate but the water pressure for the showers was minimal. The reason for the 3 stars was for the staff. Since the hotel is not close to anything, we did eat at the restaurant a majority of the time. Your food bill includes a service charge; however, staff would always ask for more tips each time we paid - even if the service was poor. It was unpleasant.

We would NOT recommend this hotel. Yes, the view, grounds and pool are indisputably beautiful. The rooms are large (also a plus) but lacking air conditioning. However, that beauty and large rooms aren't enough to make up for their clear disregard for their guests...and clear priority for maximizing profit over guest satisfaction. A few things to be aware of: *At check in, the front desk employee immediately launched into a list of all services that were *not* covered in our room rate. She didn't even preface it with simple words of welcome. *There was no in-room information about the local area or even hotel services. *The in-room safe, which was supposed to be free of charge (based on room description in my reservation) required a credit card to use. * The complimentary toiletries were limited to tiny bottles of poor-quality shampoo and conditioner and there was no blow dryer in the room. *The water pressure was weak and we never received the appropriate number of towels based on the number of people we paid for in our room. *Housekeeping did the bare minimum each day. ***All these things are bad, but not even one of the worst, in our opinion. *** THEY DON'T ALLOW ANY OUTSIDE FOOD OR BEVERAGE INTO THE HOTEL. Often after a full day of sight seeing, we like to order food in and relax. That wasn't an option at this hotel. Room service isn't an option in a standard room..only in a suite. So the only option if you don't feel like going into town is to eat in their on-site restaurant. The food is fine, but it's unpleasant to be forced into the issue. The final straw for us is when I accidentally knocked over and broke a tiny ceramic ketchup cup. They graciously cleaned it up and I thought it was the end of the issue. Later that day when I looked over the bill, I discovered that they had charged me over $6.00 for it! They didn't even tell me they were charging me for it. I didn't check the bill because I had no idea that would be done! We were shocked at this experience, especially considering the reviews we had read. It was an experience that I wouldn't wish on anyone. I am sure there are other hotels around the lake that have a view AND value their guests. Hotel Atitlán definitely isn't it! Traveler beware.

I thought the hotel was spectacular. I was here by myself and it cost more than a lot of hotels in Guatemala but it's not too far off rates in the United States. It's very classy, very tasteful, has beautiful gardens, lovely rooms, lots of hot water, friendly staff, what else can I say? The beds were lovely and the hotel was quiet. I had a lovely private porch that overlooks the lake although part of my view was obscured by trees. I could've slept with the patio door wide open but wasn't sure about the malaria situation – I've since looked it up in the mosquitoes here do not carry it. The only drawback is that the hotel is a 20 minute walk into town around a somewhat dangerous corner with no sidewalk but you can also take a tuktuk (and add that to your list of experiences) for around 25 quetzals. (May vary on how many people you have, again, I was alone). I didn't eat at the restaurant but it looks pretty nice. I overheard someone say that the breakfast buffet which was pretty nice was $25. I found a nice place in town for less with a little bit more local flavor.

While other hotels in Panajachel cut corners, the Atitlan only gets better. Gardens, colonial-style rooms and everything else are impeccable, in good taste, and the views of clouds folding around three volcanoes across the water are unsurpassed . . . anywhere. Pool could be bigger, but where else can you soak in a hot tub, enjoy the flutter of hummingbirds, and gaze at the most beautiful lake in the world. Rates are high for Guatemala, but not for the experience. Beverages are at "New York prices!" as one guest exclaimed. For a slightly lower rate, book on hotelatitlan.com
