Nestled near the town and attractions like Cahal Pech, the San Ignacio Resort Hotel serves as a prime spot for excursions, despite the occasional hilly trek. Guests have called out the homely yet luxurious atmosphere and commend the well-maintained cleanliness of the property. The rooms, while cozy and clean, might feel a tad dated to some. The service garners high marks for its personalized and professional touch. Amenities, including the pool and wildlife experiences, are popular, although opinions on value for money vary, with some deeming it pricey.

When you enter the San Ignacio Hotel the first thing you will notice is its grandeur and elegance. After all, Queens, assorted Royals, and heads of state stay here all the time.
When you arrive you will be greeted with a cool towel to wipe away the dust of journey from the airport or wherever you have come from. After you have been welcomed and signed in you will be shown to your room. A selection of great local art depicting the wildlife of Belize is on display throughout the hotel. The rooms are all appointed with AC, a large ceiling fan, a writing desk, a small fridge to cool beverages on a hot day, a cupboard to hang your clothes complete with a small ironing board and iron. Best of all, an enormous bed in the suite we had. It was like a huge soft cloud that made it easy to fall asleep after the day's adventures (of which you will have many choices). The bathroom in our suite had a delightful rain shower with never-ending hot water to wash off the grime of zip-lining, horseback riding or exploring the ruins. One of the nicest tours offered is a visit to the Green Iguana Conservation Project where you learn about the efforts being made here on the grounds to help conserve these endangered reptiles once eaten as a delicacy by the local Mayan people. Most of the rooms have hammock-equipped balconies for your private relaxation. The hotel staff will help you with any questions or requests. The building is constantly being maintained and its gardens are being trimmed by a staff that are always smiling. When you enter the main building you will notice an dramatic curved set of stairs that climb one side on the lobby, these lead to the three grand suites, one of which is the honeymoon suite; all of them have many stunning features. Especially wonderful if you are lucky enough to have your destination wedding here. They have a grand ballroom and experienced banquet staff for just such an event.
The lobby passes through to the bar and the 'Running W Restaurant' and you can walk to the many level sitting areas that overlook the large pool which has it its own water feature. The dining room is elegantly-appointed and adjoins an open air deck looking out onto the pool, their tennis court, and a wonderful wooded area that has many birds and small animals living right there. So if you're a birder, you can begin without leaving the building and having your first cup of coffee for the day. The staff are extremely knowledgeable about the local birds. We have seen Keel-billed Toucans (the country's national bird) along with Collared Aracaris, 2 varieties of Parrots, Motmots and so many more it is just amazing. The lounge is ideal for a quiet drink and appies while you wait for dinner. The chefs here are great, combing local delicacies and cultural flavours as well as international dishes for those less-adventurous people. We have never been disappointed with any of the features here. The daily housecleaning staff will keep your suite spic and span all while you are away adventuring. We have stayed here many times over the years and don't hesitate to assure you that you will enjoy your stay and you are likely to return many times as we have. The San Ignacio Hotel, a place where you can have a grand adventure. Enjoy! We know we do when we are here. We want to thanks the staff and owners for always giving their clients the highest quality service in everything they do..

Easily the best all round accommodation we have tried out on our 4-week journey through El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and, now, Belize. The staff go all out to create a relaxing, comfortable and enjoyable stay. The welcome was superb and the little touches throughout the 2-night stay completed their fine performance. The small treats in your room after dinner (accompanied by surprises for our 4 year-old) were greatly appreciated.
The room itself was clean and comfortable. The beds were simply the best! The outdoor porch area could be enjoyed even in the inclement weather. The inclusion of a small fridge and tea/filter coffee making facilities were a nice touch.
The restaurant service was very good. In terms of catering for children they go to great lengths. The kid's breakfast and lunch/dinner menus have plenty of options and our son enjoyed all his choices. They also provide crayons and pictures for kids to work with while in the restaurant. All the food we ordered was of a high standard and reasonably priced.
The location just up a small rise out of the town centre affords both a quiet location and ready access to the town of San Ignacio. We enjoyed strolling into town for a look around, getting supplies, enjoying a meal, etc.
The hotel grounds are extensive and include the Green Iguana Conservation Project, which is worth booking during your stay. Although the weather wasn't great for our stay, we did get outside to enjoy the pool.
If we are returning to San Ignacio in the future, we'd return here in a heartbeat.

The San Ignacio Hotel Resort is a welcoming and relaxing hotel from which to take wonderful excursions to Tikal, ATM, Cave canoeing and so many more! After, come back to the gorgeous pool, comfortable accommodations and professional and caring staff! San Ignacio is a busy, working town not really set up for tourism, but is the easiest place from which to travel to the above sites. So this hotel makes a lovely base. Water is purified at restaurant and bar so you can eat and drink delicious meals on a lovely terrace without worry. I highly recommend the balcony rooms where you can relax and watch the birds. Early morning birding tour on hotel grounds and iguana conservation site there as well are not to be missed. Set on a short but steep hill above town, you can also take a $3 taxi ride further up to the small, peaceful and impressive Mayan ruins of Cahel Pech. Hotel will arrange all excursions, or I recommend Belizing.com. So very glad we stayed here!

My family and I spent the weekend at the resort and had a wonderful staycation! The staff was all courteous and friendly, from the moment we checked-in to the time we checked-out. Mrs. Perla at the front desk was highly informative and ensured we were aware that we can always call her for assistance during our stay.

We stayed in a River View Suite, which was very spacious, comfy, and just a short walk from the pool. The view from our private balcony was breath-taking! The resort property is well kept and cleaned frequently, and social distance signs were clearly visible. Our suite was sanitized just before we were taken to it. Our luggage was also sanitized before placed in our room.

The food and drinks were delicious, and John and Shamira made the experience even better, with their cheery personality. One of the restaurant's highlights is the awesome service – you can easily WhatsApp them from the pool for drinks and snacks and they bring it to you – without having to leave the pool!

We did the Green Iguana tour, and oh how my grandbaby loved this one. Luis is the best! Very friendly and experienced, and there is no doubt he loves what he does. 🙂

All in all, my family and I enjoyed our stay at the San Ignacio Resort. I highly recommend to anyone, especially Belizeans looking for an affordable, safe, and enjoyable staycation. Give them a call and book your stay, you won't regret it!

We had lunch at the resort before our Iguana Conservation Project tour. After expressing that I am gluten free, the resort served my drink with a straw made from bucatini pasta. Everyone in our party (4 adults and 3 kids) felt the food was “meh” and “really salty”. The kids burger was incredibly dry and the bun was fennel crusted, so my daughter would not eat it. We gave her trouble, until we tasted it. The grilled fish was really salty and the rice and beans were dry. The service was incredibly slow, resulting in us moving our tour from 3 to 4 pm. Our waiter was nice, and the drinks and view of the pool were great. The pricing was fine.

A little pricier than most in the area, but the staff and facilities are very nice. Upon check-in we were greeted by a hotel guide and shown around, a bartender showed up with complimentary rum punch, and we were taken to our rooms. Treats were delivered to our room each day. The restaurant was very nice, but again, a little pricier than most in the area. WE did eat a couple of meals there, but the food choices were more interesting at other restaurants in town. They have an Iguana conservatory onsite and we took the 1 hour tour, which was worth the few dollars it cost. Great pool area. There is also a tennis court, but oddly. there was no fence to keep you ball from flying into the jungle., so keep that in mind. There apparently was a casino attached to the hotel. It was so low key that we did not realize it was there until we were leaving. Be aware the the hotel is on a hill, so if you on foot, it's a nice little walk uphill on your way back form town.

We stayed at the Resort March 2020 for five nights in a well appointed balcony room. The Hotel web site does not do justice to the views of the jungle and birds. The room was quiet with a comfortable king bed and wonderful shower. The house keeping staff could not have been more helpful.

The Resort staff is professional, friendly and helpful: Jimmy in food service took personal care, Giovanni for any questions, Frank the iguana guy, the Bird tour was super fun, and the pool manager works overtime to keep everything sparkling. The Food is wonderful, super fresh, locally grown with fresh seafood every day. Kevin in the kitchen goes the extra mile.

Location is convenient to walk down town with a $3.50 taxi home if you run our of steam.. Easy Walk to Mayan ruins, chocolate tour, farmers market and other town assets.

San Ignacio Resort is a well run, comfortable, full service resort hotel, that provides a great base for all your activities.

We stayed at the SIRH at the start of an 18-day visit to Guatemala and Belize. It was a great place to start our vacation. The staff is attentive and helpful, the facilities are well maintained, the food in the restaurant is excellent, and we really enjoyed the Iguana Conservation Project tour.

We stayed in a wonderful guest room that was large enough for our family of five. The view from the patio was stunning, including a large male iguana and his harem that keep residence in the palm tree 20 feet away. The AC in the room was the most effective of all the places we stayed and the included dehumidifier was appreciated more than I imagined.

The pool and hammocks provide a relaxing location and a way to escape the heat while reading a book or catching a tan. And, the close proximity to town meant it was easy to go to a grocery store for snacks or a local restaurant for a meal. So many of the places we’ve been in Belize are isolated away from other amenities, not SIRH.

We had an open day in our schedule and the staff arranged a tour of Xunantinich and Cahel Pech. The guide, Carlos, was excellent and knowledgeable. The tour was a highlight of our time in San Ignacio.

We’ll stay here again without hesitation.

What a wonderful experience all around. We booked our excursions through the resort and feel like we got the best guides for everything we did. Top Notch. Everything was well planned and on time and so well though out. I guess they've done this before. One night we enjoyed a romantic dinner on our balcony. On another evening, we had massages. Every morning we listened to the bird concerts on the deck while we savored a delicious breakfast. We both had such great sleep in the comfortable bed and efficient air conditioning. The room were rather large and the bathroom was clean and modern. I especially like the water pressure from the rain shower head! Every single staff member was accommodating and friendly. Onill picked us up from the airport and could not have been a better host and driver showing us beautiful Belize. We ate nearly every meal here and everything was truly delightful. We were afraid we'd get bored with the menu but there was so much to choose from and I enjoyed trying out different things. I loved every meal, every smoothie, and the yummy concoctions from the bar. Oh, and we were a bit nervous about water but we drank the filtered water from the pitcher and coffee and tea and not a single issue. Right on site is the Medicinal Trail and Green Iguana tour - do it! It is only about 45 minutes but it was so informative. This was just such a spectacular and relaxing trip. I would return to this resort in second. Thank you to such a wonderful team of hospitality professionals.

I chose this hotel as it sits right in town and is walkable to the local restaurants. I was so happy with the choice. The hotel is in a great location (you can even walk to Cahal Pech). The staff goes above and beyond to make your stay wonderful. The hotel is clean, comfortable and has a remote feel to it. Our room faced the hills and trees which allowed us to wake in the morning, sit on the lanai and watch the birds.
The on-site restaurant is very good as well. They accommodated our request for a pre-ordered breakfast to be delivered to our room early one morning due to an early tour pick up.
We ended every evening with a specialty cocktail from the bar. We'd take our drinks to the pool where we'd lay in the hammocks and enjoy the evening.
From the wait staff to the front desk and guest services, everyone was so friendly and helpful. They even provided us with a cooler full of ice for our beers when they noticed we were waiting for a tour pick up with our beers in a bag. It is those little things that shows just how attentive they are.
We also did the onsite birding tour. It is an early wake up but well worth it. We saw both types of toucans that reside in the area as well as several other bird species. It was so peaceful being outside at the property before people were up and about. Just the guide and my husband and I.
San Ignacio has so much to offer that we'll be back next year and will return to SIHR. Thank you to all of the staff for making our experience the best.

This is a great place to visit with lots of choices for excursions. We saw lots of iguanas. There were many toucans while we ate breakfast. We visited the green iguana exhibit which was a very interesting place to visit on site. I would recommend this resort hotel to anyone.

You have a few options. We took a shuttle service—there are a few highly rated here. You will pay between $90-100 USD and the ride is about two hours. Another option for about twice as much money is to fly there. There’s an airstrip just outside of San Ignacio and the hotel offers a shuttle from the airport to the hotel. Safe travels!

Good morning Joan, I am very pleased to hear about your newfound interest in birding as Belize offers some spectacular sightings. We had a group back in 2017 who counted 112 on property, some of these included the Keel Billed Toucan, Emerald Toucanet, Gray Hawk, Ruby-Throated Hummingbird, Indigo Bunting, Golden-Olive Woodpecker, Red-legged Honeycreeper, amongst many others. For other tours outside of property, there's great areas to visit such as The Nest of the Crested Caracara, El Pilar and Cahal Pech Maya temples, Aguacate Lagoon, and even some urban birdwatching! As for the rooms recommended for this type of preference, as mentioned by some of our visitors in this thread, the Suites are a good option as they have a clear view of the rainforest canopy where you can spot Keel Billed Toucans in the early mornings. If you would like more information and a copy of our Tour Offerings, please feel free to send an e-mail to our Concierge team at [ concierge at sanignaciobelize dot c o m ] who will be pleased to provide you with further assistance. We hope to have opportunity to host you. My best, Stephanie Elena Marketing Manager
