The Maya Mountain lodge is surrounded by beautiful Belizean tropical rain forest, toucans, and other rainforest flora and fauna. But it is the staff that will make it hard for you to forget this place. Outstanding hospitality. The staff beamed with so much joy it brighten up th

This was our first stop in Belize while we were on our honeymoon, and I'm really glad we chose to stay here. The staff were all extremely friendly and helpful and seemed to genuinely care about whether we were having a good time. We also enjoyed the cultural presentations in the

The personnel was really friendly and helpful. When arriving and noticing our dissatisfaction about the room they offered us a free upgrade. We must admit it was not a very big change. The rooms are clean, but very small.

We, like these guests, enjoy working in a beautiful place with a really great team. My family created and has been operating this jungle lodge now for many years. It has constantly grown and evolved as any family business does. We are not a corporate style resort, never had a financial "group", nor an architect. We have even been described as "a home away from home". Clearly, our style is that of a hosted stay similar to what you might find in a bed and breakfast. For many people who travel for work and stay in fine conventional hotels, we are just what they are looking for. For others, we have not and probably never will reach their expectations. Our staff organize really nice activities nightly so our guests can connect with both Belizeans and their various cultures. These regular activities range from Garifuna dancers, to food demos, to chocolate making. These guest said that they really were not into this type of activity thus they spent most of their time not at the jungle lodge but rather in the nearby town. We have poured our hearts and all the money we can borrow into upgrading everything from air-conditioners to the hiring and training of some awesome new employees. We know they will provide a professional and fun experience for our guests. We also have a high staff to guest ratio because we recognize that great service is so important to a great vacation. We actually have a wide range of offerings in regards to rooms from economy to family and we even have an apartment with a full kitchen and TV. These two guests chose one of our economy units and then complained that it was small. They did have other choices. I am pleased to note that the manager tried to accommodate them with a free upgrade. I am sorry that I missed the cue when this person wanted to speak to me. I had only just walked in and accertained that my manager had waived the early departure penalty and had listened to them. I had understood that everything was done and complete as they were literally leaving as I walked in. I didn't want to make them feel like they had to make an explanation again to me. I do trust my manager and they also seemed satisfied with his actions. This seemed to be a case of a mismatch in regards to who we are and what they needed. We will continue to strive to satisfy everyone.

Loved our stay here, although we were not sure we were going the right way as it is up a direct road and there are current construction detours in town. These old cottages now have AC. Each unit is a bit different. Many have kitchenettes and hammocks, but you don't need them bc

Can you take the bus to get to this hotel?
Are you able to purchase alcohol in the town of San Ignacio? Does anyone have experience driving from Belize City to San Ignacio? Any advice? Thank you for your help!
We didn't rent a car in Belize, but used Discount Belize Shuttle for transport from Belize City to San Ignacio (and other travel while there). I highly recommend them if you want prompt, reliable, and responsive service while traveling in Belize. Their vans were really nice, and they can deliver you door to door from anywhere in the country.

what is the best way to get to the hotel from the airport in Belize city?
Hi, There are several ways to get to the Lodge from the airport, however, I would recommend a transfer provided by the lodge. The rate for a oneway transfer is US$67.50 per person including 12.5%GST. Let me know if you would like to confirm this service. All the best, Terry Hales, Reservations Manager, Maya Mountain Lodge
