We had 3 couples in our group. We rented the Butterfly cabin with 2 double beds in each of the 2 rooms. The beds were surprisingly good, way better than many beds of 3 or 4 star hotels where I have stayed in California. The rooms were very clean, although we were there during rainy season, bugs were generally not...

Just returned from a 2-night fun-filled adventurous stay at the Howler Monkey Resort. My wife, son, finance and I had two cabins on the river. We found the cabins fine for our needs - plenty of room, private bathroom, and air conditioning - which certainly came in handy. Mel, Ed and sons were fantastic hosts. They are very warm and...

The room consists of a cinder block building with 2 beds similar to what you might find at a sleep away camp. The mattresses are thin but comfortable. There is very minimal furniture. There is no TV and the wi-fi is only in the non-air conditioned building which serves as the dining area. The rooms are well air-conditioned and very...

First off, if you need everything to be new and shiny, you might not enjoy this place. If, however, you want an authentic experience in the heart of Belize, this is your spot! My husband and I did the Maya History package offered on the web page plus an additional day to tour the Community Baboon Sanctuary. All of the...

If you are looking for simple, rustic, peaceful comfort while in the area of Belize City, definitely consider this place. We stayed two nights in order to visit the ruins at Lamanai before heading south. Ed picked us up at the airport, stopped at a grocery for us to pick some snacks, (we arrived around lunch and the restaurant he...

We used the Howler Monkey for our mainland base of operations for 3 nights (before going to Ambergrise for 4 nights). I chose this place based on reviews, and the fact you get a couple meals per day. The family that runs this place is wonderful. We were late getting out of the airport, and I called about dinner -...

From the pickup at the airport to being dropped off at the bus station in Belize City Ed and Mel did everything they could to make us comfortable. Of course you have many choices of where to stay in Belize but we wanted to give the local people our tourist dollars. Ed and Mel were borne in Belize City and...

We loved the Howler Monkey resort. We checked in just in time for dinner which was served by Mel and Ed and Josuf. The food was amazing. The food was fresh from their garden and we loved it. The private huts are amazing. We had a view of the river with our own hammock. It was peaceful and serene. We...

we just left the Howler Monkey Lodge and cannot say enough nice things about the family and the business! Realize, this is not a 'fancy' place, it's a homey place in the jungle! There are bugs in the jungle, you are the visitor, not them! Our first night was magic because there was some sort of crazy monkey turf war...
