I stayed at Yocamatsu for a full week at the end of June/ first week of July and it was incredible! It's a cute little B&B nestled behind trees, in the center of town but away from the noise, and a half block away from the best swimming beach on the island. I stayed in one of their cabanas with a private porch; the room was very large, and the bathroom and shower (good water pressure and hot water) were really nice! The breakfast everyday was delicious; the recipes and menu are created by the hotel manager, Luis. Luis is super nice, friendly, and helpful; a true gem. I was also able to meet Brian, the owner, toward the end of my stay, and he is wonderful as well. I really don't see why anyone would stay in a "hotel" when they could stay here! I 100% would stay again!
The only B&B on the island, Yocomatsu is as eclectic as it’s name. Yocomatsu’s name is derived from You Can’t Make This Sh*# Up. A xpat from Florida, the proprietor, Brian is super friendly and helpful. He’s called Caulker his home since the early 2000’s. His exuberance makes this place unique. Our room is as advertised, cozy and comfortable. Eating Luis’s breakfast on the third floor veranda overlooking the sea is the best. The island is narrow enough that you can see both the leeward and windward sides at the same time. Travels tip: check out the ray feeding at dusk. It’s a 2 minute walk from the room.
Loved, loved, loved our stay here. Luis, Rocket, and Renny were great. The friendly dogs always greeted us and hung out with us when we arrived back at the B&B. Luis is a great cook and thoroughly enjoyed our breakfasts with the great view. Our room was perfect! Loved that we were able to log into Netflix and Chill at the end of the day. Got a good run in on the soccer field. The location is perfect.. right in the center of everything. We will be back! Thank you, Luis.
After travelling in Belize, I ended my trip with a stay at Yocamatsu and what a treat it was! As one reviewer mentioned, maybe a tap was loose or you have to run the water for a while for it to get hot, but with the heat outside, a cooler shower is more refreshing! And if you must have hot water, just give it a bit of time. This is common in the region. Now for the highlights: - big, fluffy towels and lots of them! - great location, in the centre of the main strip but off the main street, the entrance is accessed via a soccer field, with easy access to everything - breakfast! My personal favourite was Luis’ French toast, but every morning was delicious and plentiful - the hosts - in this I include Luis and the friendly dogs :) Luis was super helpful and always responsive and Rennie and Racket (sp?) were a delight The area is calm due to its location, but note that if you are a light sleeper, there can be noise from birds and animals in the community. I wholeheartedly recommend Yocamatsu for a stay on Caye Caulker if you value a delicious breakfast and a personal touch.…
All I have to say is I am so glad that we picked this place! The lodge is gorgeous and the roof top bar an must see… but the main reason for writing this review is our host Luis… he is one of the most generous, genuine, and just overall Fantastic host… he is the reason why we will be back!! The Guatemalan breakfast is a plus 15/10 Luis hope to see you soon!!!!
As the first guests back after Covid let me just say how wonderful this property is and how every review before mine was confirmed! Natasha, Chris and Lewis took care of us like we were family! Breakfast was amazing on the rooftop every morning and if you want a special treat ask them to make you a Belizean dinner. You are walking distance to ANY place on the island. Room accommodations were excellent. A/C worked great and bed was very comfortable. I can’t recommend this place enough!!!!
Great all round - excellent accomodations, helpful advice, detailed instructions and very professional. Terrific location wit in easy walking distance of everything you need. the rooftop bar is first rate. Lots of restaurants and tour operators just a stroll away. Breakfast on Thanks chaps!
Chris, Ellis and Greg are amazing. They came and had breakfast with us each morning. We ate amazing food and laughed telling stories the whole time. Ellis planned our entire itinerary and it was spectacular. Couldn’t have been planned better. The first thing you must do is read the book... it has all the info you need. And Greg spent two weeks writing it, so read it before you text at 10 pm asking what the WiFi password is. Again great funny story at breakfast. Don’t miss the cinnamon rolls at the bakery down the street, and the guys all love theirs with the icing. The know all there is to be known about the happenings on the island, so relax and let them work their magic. If you have never been to CC realize this property sits right in the middle of the island and you are just a block away from the water each way. We loved every minute of our stay and it was because these guys work hard for their guest.…
We thoroughly enjoyed our time on Caye Caulker. We stayed in Sea bungalow. It was a nice size and pretty enough. Squeakiest mattress we have ever slept on. The bathroom tap is loose, as in turning it on and off had us wondering if it would just break off. Breakfasts were amazing, along with the amazing host. He made the place. We thought it was pricey for what we got, although did stay for 5 nights.
We had a perfect week at Yocamatsu!!! The entire trip was extremely seamless and stress free. The communication was fantastic and want to thank Greg, Ellis and Chris for being wonderful hosts all week. The recommendations they made were perfect and can't wait to visit again. The Breakfast was wonderful, and the views amazing. If you are traveling to Caye Caulker, I highly recommend Yocamatsu and look forward to my next stay.
