Had a spectacular time for our 1st time in Belize. For our San Pedro stay, we booked at the Pelican Reef Resort. It is a beautiful hotel right on the ocean. We loved that the location was a couple of miles from the noisy crowded downtown San Pedro. (A golf cart is how everyone gets around and I highly recommend renting one.). We were able to relax in hammocks between palm trees, have a drink at their full bar, swim in their pool, or lounge on their private dock in a peaceful and stunning environment. Excellent snorkeling right off their dock too! Our room had 2 bedrooms, living room, and a full kitchen. All were clean and nicely furnished. And our stay included tasty breakfasts every day. Their staff were all friendly and went out of their way to ensure we all had a great time in Belize. Tristian was a blessing making sure our snorkeling experiences were fun and our stay worry free. It is always a gamble when you book a hotel online without ever being there before. We would definitely recommend this place to all our fellow American travelers. Go for the oceanfront rooms=worth the extra $!

Hotel's Favourite
This was our third time staying at Pelican Reef as it has been amazing each and every time. The staff is always extremely attentive and nice. We loved Kai, Tristain, Enrique and Shamir, always friendly and very helpful! It is one of the few places that has a swim up bar and the renovations they've made are awesome, made an already amazing view even better. One of my favorite things is their dock. It is relaxing and convenient for an afternoon nap or a float in the water. Also, some of the excursions will pick you up right at the dock. We always tell friends, family and even strangers that they have to visit Ambergris Caye and will forever love staying at Pelican Reef Villas. We look forward to visiting for many years to come.

Our party of four women had no idea what we were getting into when we booked Pelican Reef Villas. Everything we had on our list was right here in one spot! We were greeted right out of the taxi and started our royal treatment right then with a light lunch and rum punch. The menu is perfect--not a lot of choices to stress over--perfect selection and the food was very good. Breakfast is outstanding! Quiet---very peaceful---the morning walks along the beach---take your coffee out on the dock--start your day with the island breeze. The room was very clean. We "cooked in" one evening. The beds were comfortable, and everything we needed was there. Overlooking a well manicured clean beach and the constant breeze was wonderful. We wanted a place that was not in town, and a golf cart is a necessity. About a 20 minute adventurous drive! One small mishap- we had a flat tire, and the PRV staff was at our side within a half hour with a new cart. Thank you! Want to kayak? Check. Paddleboard? check. Snorkel? check. Bike? Check. All the small things are right there. They made reservations for us for dinner, there is a folder of all of the menus at the desk. They made arrangements for our snorkel trips and also organized our covid testing--the medical staff comes to your room. The staff is terrific. Tris was our go-to guy and was super friendly and always smiling. The wait staff always offered great local stories and tips. Everyone was courteous and professional. Steve walked all the way out to the end of the dock to inform me that I could not sway in a hammock unless I had an island drink--and then he brought it for me. Small details that make you feel welcomed! Their number one goal was to get you to relax! We thank everyone for the wonderful memories.

The attention to polish and detail of the facility is lacking and very much could use some updating and refreshing. Food was better than adequate.. Concierge was very helpful but definitely not a four star venue. Definitely not a four star venue..

Spent 4 nights here with my family in Mid November 2021. Tristan and his staff were super attentive and exhibited superior hospitality. Their cool calm island vibe did not hinder them from being efficient, capable, and super helpful to us during our stay. Tristan has the uncanny ability to take care of all your needs like a concierge without writing anything down. He does what he says he will do for you cooly, reliably and efficiently. All his recommendations for excursions and dining were spot on. I have never utilized a concierge before and it was so painless and the results so awesome. The property is immaculate. The pool was clean and perfectly refreshing. There are about 24 condos. Ours was #4 on the second floor, beachfront and worth the extra money for the two balconies overlooking the beach and the sea. The condo was clean, opulent, spacious comfortable and classy and fully equipped. We didn't do any cooking as the included breakfasts were excellent and filling with traditional and local fare available. Lunches and bar drinks were nice too and not crazy expensive. The beach is "man made" with a bulkhead so the sand is hard packed so leave your castle making supplies at home. The ocean water is warm, spotlessly clear, and the shadows you see in the photos are not rocks but soft sea grass in soft sand. The water is very shallow, say 4.5 feet for dozens of yards out so you don't even need fins to snorkel off their dock. Bring your gear because within 10 minutes on checking in, you can swim off the dock and explore their man made reef off the dock and see: octopi, eel, stingray, turtles, and thousands of fish. I snorkled every morning and every evening and was never disappointed or bored with the abundant sea life in 5 feet of water 10 feet from the dock. A great place to intro your little ones to the magic of the sea. The resort is a tad remote south from the bustling "town" of San Pedro but golf cart rental right at PRV is the way to go and easy to do, we only rented one for a day to go to Secret Beach and took a cab two other times. All easy and cheap. There is a small convenience store about a 10 minute walk up and a couple of restaurants walkable (or use the free bikes) but you'll need better transport to get all the way into town. For you insect sensitive folks, there was a strange phenomenon allover the island when the sun sets, the bugs come out for about 40 minutes with a vengeance but then they are gone. Just a heads up. San Pedro, the reef system, Caulker Caye renewed my faith in the Caribbean experience of old with true island vibes, no McDonalds anywhere and no mega cruise ships and their 1,000s of passengers crowding, standing on and destroying the reefs. Belize is old skool Caribbean Island adventure, PRV is a fantastic base from which to enjoy the wonders the kind, friendly, welcoming Belizean people are taking care of.
