We just left Xanadu Island Resort and had such an amazing time. The resort was well maintained, clean, and the staff was friendly and helpful. They assisted with securing a golf cart for our stay and with booking various adventures. I definitely recommend staying here and if we return to Belize would gladly return.

Xanadu is a fabulous gem of a resort tucked into the south end of downtown San Pedro. Super friendly and helpful staff made our stay really great. The large condo-style units were so nice for traveling as a family with teens. The pool area is awesome and the activities included at the resort are a nice bonus (kayaks, paddleboards, etc). We loved how small and cozy the resort felt amidst the hustle and bustle of town. Definitely recommend this place when you head to Belize!

I go to Belize almost ever year and been staying at Xanadu each time I’m in San Pedro, best resort, and reasonably, treated with great hospitality. I stayed in several different rooms, and enjoyed my stay in each. Will keep staying there and taking different friends and family as long as there’s room available. Took great pictures too, nice beach front, missed it in 2020 due to Covid.

We came to San Pedro to celebrate our 10 year anniversary and Xanadu didn't disappoint! The accommodations are great, very clean and QUIET! Most of all, the staff are incredible! They helped with all our excursions and took care of our every need. With so many options, the staff make the difference! We look forward to coming back in the future.

I will start by saying this is the most friendly resort staff we have ever encountered. I loved that there are only 19 suites and that the staff became like family by the end. We can not wait to return. It started before we even got there with them being so quick to respond to all of my questions and being able to arrange everything. All of the front office staff, Jesica, Joel and Christian were awesome. They set up everything from reservations to excursions and always had a helpful suggestion on where/what we should do. I love that they reccomend local and locally owned restaraunts. It was amazing to get to know Peter and Michel (the owners) and their story of how they came to own/run Xanadu. They too were always there to help or share a story. It was just such a warm and welcoming environment. Winston and Christine at the bar were amazing. We loved all the drinks they made us and talking with them about life on the Caye. We stayed in a 2 bedroom beachfront suite. It was perfect for everything we needed. The kitchen was well equipped, we made breakfast a couple of days. I must have told someone in passing that my birthday was during the trip and they set up balloons, chocolate and a towel bday cake in our room while we were out on an excursion. You definitely wouldn't have gotten that any where else. It was such a sweet and unexpected surprise. We loved the quiet and relaxing time we had. Definitely never felt crowded. Overall an amazing time with lots of adventure.

Fantastic stay at Xanadu for our family of 5! Stayed here as part of a package jungle / beach trip with 3 teens. The package included our transportation to / from the airport and a golf cart rental which the resort arranged for us. Pulling up to the resort, the initial impression is one of a beautiful oasis with lush vegetation and a waterfall feature. The resort brings the luggage to the room while the guests check in at the main desk. Joel and Chris were extremely friendly and clear with their welcome instructions and orientation to the resort. We even received a complimentary welcome beverage! We stayed in a 2 bedroom Ocean View unit which was fabulous! After days in the jungle the family was thrilled with the comforts of air conditioning and strong Wi-Fi. One of the rooms had 2 twin beds and our 3rd slept on a twin set up in the living room area. The other bedroom had a king bed for the parents. There were 2 full bathrooms which was an added bonus. The safe in the closet was very helpful. The unit has a full kitchen which we didn’t need for cooking but did eat take out and found the table / chairs / dishes / silverware very useful. The resort also provides a large filtered water dispenser which is much appreciated! There was plenty of hot water, the unit was very clean, and the kids appreciated the towel animals left by the housekeeping staff! We even had our own hammock outside that the kids loved and outdoor table / chairs and beach chairs for additional spaces to sit. The resort has a lovely pool and hot tub, with plenty of poolside seating and shade. The beach has a sea wall to prevent erosion, with 2 docks that allow you to access the ocean for swimming. At the end of one of the docks there are chairs under shade which were great for gazing out at the ocean. On the beach itself were plenty of reclining chairs with nice cushions as well as shade provided by cabanas. The bar and office were staffed 7a - 7p, and it was convenient to charge drinks to our room. The resort provides towels for the beach that you sign out and return when you need a clean one. They also have kayaks and paddle boards that we tried out which was fun. We didn’t use the bikes since we had a golf cart, but did see other guests using these. They even have snorkel equipment you can use, although there isn’t much to see in the water right by the resort. While there isn’t a restaurant on site, the next door resort has the Amber Beach Bar and Restaurant that accepts credit cards and was convenient for take out that we brought back to our room. One of the nice things about the sea wall is it prevents the seaweed from washing onto the beach. The resort next door does not have a sea wall and the amount of seaweed on their beach was substantial, which is why we didn’t eat at the restaurant. The smell was quite strong. There is a bakery 2 minute walk away for breakfast as well. Being a short distance outside of San Pedro was nice and felt very safe. The front office staff were very helpful when we needed to get in touch with the diving company we had reservations with and with recommending an appropriate time to get a taxi at the end of our stay to the airport. The resort has natural vegetation, cool architecture of the rooms that are hurricane resistant, and has been recognized for being eco-friendly. I understand why people rave about Xanadu and why they have so many repeat guests. If we should have the opportunity to visit Ambergris Caye again, we will definitely choose to stay here at Xanadu!

Fabulous, independently-owned little oasis in the midst of San Pedro. Also an excellent jump off point for adventures around the island. The staff was all very friendly, exceptionally competent and attentive, and generally good people. Be sure to seek out and chat up Winston at the bar as he was a great source of local knowledge, information and guidance. Peter, the owner (and ex-pat from South Africa, via Toronto) was very present, lovely, and attentive too. His care for his guests is very genuine. We loved the kid- (and adult-) friendly pool with the nearby bar. Also local tour operators would pick you up on-site for snorkeling and other water-based adventures, often pulling their boat right up to the resort's own pier. You just gather your things, walk out the door, head down the pier and hop in the boat that will whisk you away to your next activity! There are two grocery markets nearby, an excellent bakery, and you can rent golf carts right on site.

The staff at Xanadu was very friendly and responsive. They helped us plan good excursions and answered all our questions. The resort is nice and clean. It is a great small resort for families. They made everything simple for us. It was my first time to Belize.

This was our fourth time at Xanadu in ten years, and it never, ever disappoints. It always feels like coming home, and I feel like I leave a piece of my heart every time we stay. Xanadu is a very special place, made so by the people who run it. From Winston and Christine at the bar, to Jesica, Joel, Christian and Ingrid in the office, to Orlando and his crew outside, to the fabulous housekeeping staff (shout-out to the lovely Jianni who took wonderful care of our room), and friendly managers Peter and Kathy, absolutely every person went out of their way to make sure we felt like family the minute we arrived. Some tips for making the most of your trip: -rent a golf cart - the front desk crew can take care of this for you. They’re very affordable, and worth it for getting around the island. -the food in San Pedro restaurants is really, really good. Our favourites include: Wild Mangos, Frenchy’s, Hidden Treasure, Elvies, Caroline’s Kitchen and Reefers. Honestly, we had great food everywhere we went. -make the trek to Secret Beach - it’s no longer a secret, but very worth visiting for warm, inviting water, laid-back vibes, and super-fun beach bars. -snorkel with Lil Alphonse - he’s undeniably passionate about the water and the animals that call it home, and he’s highly entertaining to boot. -be aware that the island is quite expensive - we noticed significantly higher prices than we experienced last time we were there in 2018. Groceries, dinners out, alcohol, gas - it’s about the same, or, in some cases significantly more, than we pay at home in Canada. San Pedro is no longer a cheap destination. But given the pandemic, and the hardships many folks experienced on the island, it’s not a big surprise. -be patient with the Sargassum situation - it is what it is. The folks at Xanadu do their level best to manage it, and it’s better at Xanadu than many other places, but it’s a huge issue everywhere in the Caribbean. You’re going to experience it, and at times, the smell can be… a lot. But it’s not all day every day - the wind helps to clear out the smell, and on our two week trip, it was an issue for one week, but the second week we hardly noticed it. One other thing that we love about Xanadu is the staff’s value of the animals that call Ambergris Caye home. There are several well-fed cats on the property (which we loved), and we also saw tons of tiny lizards and iguanas, and the occasional bat and raccoon. Honestly, the many critters were a huge draw for us, and we appreciated that they were never perceived as an issue by guests or by staff. We compared this to the reaction of staff and guests to a cat who had the audacity to walk across the pool deck at the Alaia next door - one guest nearly had a panic attack because there was an animal in sight. I think this is a perfect example of the difference between Xanadu and the Alaia (which, though very fancy and nice, feels soulless and corporate, and could be virtually anywhere in the world). Xanadu truly does live in “harmony with nature,” as per their slogan, which makes for a very authentic island experience. I could go on and on about the fabulousness of Xanadu - there really isn’t another place in the world like it. Can’t wait to go back - as we said to the staff, who, by the end of the trip, always feel like friends - “See you next time.” As there most certainly will be a next time!
