I had the good fortune to go to Matachica Resort for my son's wedding. The entire staff makes you feel so special, like you are part of a big family. It is peaceful at the resort, it's a great place to relax, unwind, and ground yourself. The food is so delicious, and is presented beautifully by the helpful wait staff. There is plenty to do if you are so inclined. And if you don't want to do anything, the grounds provide numerous ways and places to relax. I found great solace at the end of the main dock. I fell asleep to the sounds of the waves crashing over the reef in the distance. I hope to go back again! Thank you for making me feel so special!!
This resort is just as depicted on the website (matachica.com) – regular travelers know that's not always the case. Not only is it beautiful and well-appointed, but the service is excellent. The staff learned our names and drink preferences quickly and were solicitous throughout our 1-week stay. The rooms (casitas) are spacious and very clean, each with a direct view of the ocean or, for the less expensive casitas, a view of the pool area and palm trees. The food in both restaurants (one more casual than the other) was excellent, all served with locally grown fruits or vegetables – they even cooked red snapper that we caught on a fishing excursion that the resort planned. Golf cart drives into San Pedro and to Secret Beach were fun, although the roads are a bit rough. The seaweed is a problem, but a team of 5 or 6 people spends all day working to keep it away from the beach; Matachica is not the only resort (and Belize is not the only country) to be burdened with it. It didn't affect our stay, but you have to understand that you probably won't be walking into the ocean from the beach at the resort (you can from the pier, however). Overall this was a great place to enjoy the sun, relax, and be taken care of. I highly recommend it!…
We stayed at matachica for 1 week in one of the seaside casitas. You are about 30min from both san pedro and secret beach, so i recommend that you rent a golf cart for your entire stay. Breakfast on-site is included and was excellent, though if you get sick of your two free options you can order additional items at a cost. There are two bars, one at the restaurant and one outside under a tree, by the pool. The outside bar closes at 5p which is a bit too early IMO. You can get kayaks and paddle out to the reef (took about 10min) then attach the kayak to a bouy and go snorkeling. Just snorkeling off the resort we saw an eagle ray, two dolphins, angel fish, octopus, eels, etc. We also did two scuba trips with White Sands dive shop and had a blast as well, plus they pick you up at the matachica pier! The rooms are great but dont have mini-fridges, we went and bought a cooler and some ice from the store nearby (15-20min drive) bc drinks are pricey at matachica! We enjoyed visiting secret beach, specifically: blue bayou, swing bar, and sunset palace. Prices are more reasonable out there too. We had excellent dinners at mambo (at matachica), portofino (fancy place just north of matachica), and carambas (amazing seafood in san pedro—our favorite place overall). We had excellent food/snacks/lunches at the matachica bistro (served out on the pier), Capricorn, crocs, rum dog, and pur. The best thing about matachica is the staff and the view, the worst thing is the sea grass. The sea grass coats the eastern shore of the whole island and smells like rotten fish if you get closer than about 10ft, so for our beach time we went to secret beach. If you want to relax at matachica for the day, you can sit out on the pier so the sea grass is behind you or you can hang at the pool. Im not sure when sea grass is there and when it isnt.…
Matachica makes you feel like your home. Everyone there is impeccable professionals, from grounds crews, bartenders to front desk. We always feel safe there. Security on site (nowhere on San Pedro seems like it needs security, but good to have). Covid-19 tests for the outbound guests. You start your stay with a concierge boat ride to the resort, and are greeted with drinks of your choice at check in. The food at Mamba is fantastic. The bartenders are top notch with a variety of delightful cocktails. You can’t go wrong. They have numerous golf carts available to rent for you to venture off to Secret Beach, or back into San Pedro. This is our second stay, and I know we will be back again.
Matachica Resort and the management and staff that run Matachica Resort do an outstanding job for their guests. The staff is super friendly and always helpful. Everything is super clean and daily services are prompt. The restaurants and bars are well stocked and make exceptional beverages. The food is excellent with good variety. The location is perfect for Scuba, Snorkeling, sightseeing and numerous trips arranged by the staff at Matachica. All the Cabana's are air-conditioned with plenty of space and privacy. Just a wonderful destination. FOTB
The service was excellent. I love the cabanas by the ocean. Staff is very attentive. We were here for a week. My niece got married here at the resort. Everything went beautifully. Lovely setting by the beach. We took advantage of going snorkeling at the reef and swimming with the nurse sharks. Fantastic. I highly recommend this resort.
Wow! Awesome! Amazing! Words cannot describe the Sunday brunch. The food was absolutely amazing and bottomless mimosas!!?! Gorgeous location and very laid back experience and excellent wait staff. Definitely recommend this place!!!
We are a family of four who recently returned from Matachica. Can’t say enough good things about it. We had 2 cabanas with Caribbean views which were both lovely. I am extremely well travelled and have to say that the service at Matachica is stellar. The resort itself is laid out with a beautiful pier laden with some of the most comfortable furniture you will ever experience. Both bars are wonderful. Really enjoyed Danny’s Tree Bar! The food is top-notch. Make sure you try the homemade banana jam with breakfast! Following a day of fishing, the chef cooked our snapper in 3 ways—all were super tasty. The resort is about 3/3.5 miles north of San Pedro which is approximately 20/25 minutes by golf cart. Frankly, staying a bit north of town is nice as the property remains quiet from the congestion of San Pedro. Another plus is that you are closer to Secret Beach which is approximately 12/15 minutes away by cart. I do suggest you rent a golf cart if you wish to roam. I would not hesitate to stay at Matachica again!…
If you’re looking to relax and spend quality time together, this is the place. The staff was friendly, helpful and accommodating with every request we had. The food was delicious, there was lots to do if want to stay busy. (Kayaks, snorkeling & paddle boards) We kayaked & snorkeled at the resort, saw some beautiful fish & a nurse shark. We stayed in the Luna casita with a beachfront view & private hot tub. There was seaweed, the staff worked daily to remove it. The smell wasn’t bad & it didn’t stop us from having our coffee outside and watching the sunrise. The room had lots of closet space, a mini fridge, lots of towels & two bottles of bug spray to use if needed, thankfully we didn’t. We didn’t have a TV, which was fine with us. Recommendations we have: The option to have coffee delivered to your room each morning. And our casita didn’t have a hammock, setting some up on the property near the waterfront would be nice to relax or take a nap on. Overall, we enjoyed every minute of the time there and would go back again. Thanks Matachica for a relaxing stay. …
I love Matachica! After not traveling for years due to Covid, the resort was the perfect place to discover life beyond the bubble. (And to get away from screens.) Arriving by boat was spectacular and I'm not sure it gets much better than being greeted with a cocktail ;) Our casita was perfect with an incredible view (we had a garden room). It's just a bed and a hammock but I am not sure I needed much more (maybe a hook or two to dry bathing suits). The food at both restaurants was absolutely delicious. The fresh-baked pastries every morning were something to look forward to and the key lime pie at Mambo is the best I've ever had. And the cocktails were all top-notch and fresh. Yes, there was seaweed but that's just the ocean doing its thing. And while we had days of wind (and one major rainstorm) - it all was fine. We just hung out at the pool or went to Secret Beach (highly recommend for swimming and surprisingly good ceviche at a dive bar called Pirate's Cove). Snorkeling is incredible! Saw several sea turtles, schools of gorgeous fish, and a Moray eel (thanks to Charlie). Rent a cart and take a few trips into town, too. Any minor issues we had were handled quickly by Will. Would love to return to this gem any time.…
