Spent 3 days in Caye Caulker then went to San Pedro and was lucky enough to Find Captain Morgans Resort. Quiet,Peaceful &Laid back. Rented a Beachfront Oceanview Cabana.Staff is friendly and attentive to your needs.Bartenders are Great. Swim up Bar and the Grounds our beautiful. Didnt have cable for 2 days but there was a letter stating they were upgrading to a new system in all units. Sure enough we came back and the cable had been replaced in all the cabana units.I have to say with everything going on in the world not having cable for 2 days was really nice. Great Casino on property played on $20.00 for 40 min on Roulette. Free drinks while playing really only lost $5 with free beer. Secrets beach is 3.5 miles one way and san pedro 3.5 miles the other direction so centrally located. I would come back for sure.

We’re grateful you took some of your time to leave us a lovely review! We also think that Captain’s offers everything you could possibly need while on a Caribbean holiday – white-sand beach, beautiful grounds, caring staff, and even the only casino on the island! It’s lovely to hear that you’d like to come back, and we certainly hope that you will!

We were very pleasantly surprised by the beauty of the location and the expansive ocean view from each unit, notwithstanding the sargassum and the related fact that the ocean was unswimmable at this location. The rooms are tastefully decorated in Belizian decor, the rooms are quiet, and the beds are comfortable.

Roger, who arranges tours, was lax and appeared unmotivated. We took our business to Maya Mundo and Belizian Shores, and we found them much more responsive. However, the golf carts that are a MUST in Belize are a good price at Captain Morgan’s. Suggest renting them there for the duration of your stay for convenience and value. You’ll enjoy taking them to one of the several Secret Beach destinations, and they are a great convenience if you plan to visit the very charming Cay Caulker; this little island is not to be missed! Tip: fly rather than take the 90 minute ferry from the airport. Definitely worth the extra dollars.
Tip: Once on Cay Caulker, be sure to take one of the five dollar round trip ferries on a very quick trip to Cocoa King. Gorgeous and almost empty. You’ll find beach cabanas and excellent swimming and snorkeling. (We brought our own snorkels.)

We were a bit taken aback by the $200 (400 BZ) non refundable fee for time share exchanges that greeted us upon arrival at the retreat. They explained it was for use of their kayaks and bikes, neither of which it appeared anyone used.

Overall, however, Captain Morgan’s is a great place to stay, and we would stay here again. The three pools on the property were lovely, and they’re a terrific place to meet your neighbors and exchange fun travel stories!

By the way, the food in Belize is wonderful. Our favorite restaurant was Capricorn, a quick walk from Captain Morgan’s. Be sure and try the outstanding cerviche!

Stayed here for holidays 2019. Had read the mixed reviews so kept expectations low. The property had a good location, and great views to the beach. The restaurant was not very good and very expensive. The room was fine, but details like trim, sheets that fit the bed, a safe that was not duct-taped, mirrors that were the right height, and such were lacking. The house-keeping was great, the massage was great. The pools were okay, but the best pool we were told is being annexed by the adjoining property. Like I said, it was okay, but not more than 3 stars.

We traded into Captain Morgan's Retreat for a week in Ambergris Caye. The front office staff were very nice and accommodating. Andrew who is the North American Concierge was fantastic and very helpful over the phone and email. Anette and Nigilly in the dining room were so sweet and helpful always with a smile on their face. The room was great overall.

The resort however as a whole was in disrepair and in need of a pile of maintenance. The website was actually inaccurate. They boasted of a swim up bar. They indeed had a swim up bar but it hadn't been open in about three years (pre-Covid). They boasted a Casino, not open... The outside of the different buildings were outdated and the bamboo siding they had on the buildings was falling off and just looked worn. While many other resorts on the island used the time during Covid to do a deep dive into maintenance and updates the owner of this property certainly did not. Simple things like the fans in the palapa bar had all of the blades warped and hanging down like a limp noodle. The "grocery store" on property was not even fit to be called a convenience store. Barely any stock on the shelves disorganized.

The only redeeming thing about the entire resort, was the staff and the room. It was easy to see the potential of this property and what a fun place it must have been in its heyday. A lot of TLC is needed to bring this resort up to standards because what a place it could be (again).

Thank you for your comments about your recent stay with us. We are committed to providing a fantastic guest experience, and while it sounds like we exceeded your expectations in some areas, primarily with our staff and customer service, unfortunately, we fell short in some other areas. We hope you'll give us the opportunity to make a better impression during a future stay. We are currently working on many esthetic upgrades to the resort during our annual two-month closure.

We came here on a timeshare trade. Got a one bedroom with a kitchenette. We were a little disappointed that we got a charge on arrival of $200USD. This did cover electricity and one day of housekeeping. We were told after arrival that they offer free pickup at the airport and a discount on the cart rental for the “resort fee”.

Overall, we have had a very pleasant stay. This is not a Marriott, but certainly very comfortable and nice. The condo was nicely furnished. Some would say dated, but it worked for us. The bed is decent and the furniture cushions could be updated, but overall very comfortable.

The staff are very nice and accommodating. Grounds keeping is immaculate. We had a beautiful view from our room and lounge chairs a close walk. The pool was beautiful and they do have extra pool noodles, etc for everyone to use. I would not recommend the on-site store except for necessities, I.e. ice and water. No one drinks the tap water, you can buy the 5 gallon jug at the store. We did not visit the restaurant or bar on site. There are a few restaurants close by. A golf cart is a must.

As others have said, I think there are new owners, new construction going on and the name is changing to Oceans 23 which is beautiful.
Overall, we would come back.

We really enjoyed our stay at Captain Morgan’s. We were picked up from the airport in a golf cart which immediately set the mood for a relaxing tropical stay. The views were beautiful and our room was spacious and tastefully decorated. Although the grounds needed a little bit of updating, the overall feel of the resort was nice and the staff were very friendly. The spa offered massages on the beach which was fabulous! There was a restaurant on the premises and the location of the resort was just perfect as it was located outside of San Pedro so it was quiet but close to many other restaurants.

We really enjoyed this place. We had a bungalow on the beach front. It was amazing waking up every morning to see the sunrise. The grounds are very well kept with beach chairs and hammocks big enough for 2 people. They have 2 swimming pools, although we only used the one closest to our room. We did enjoy food in the restaurant, at the pool and had room service. We like the location of the resort because it's far enough away from the busy town of San Pedro but close enough to other restaurants and bars that you can walk to them. We did rent a golf cart at the resort for 24 hours to do a little exploring, but our main goal was to just hang out and relax. We did do one excursion where we got picked up at out dock. That was great and convenient. I would stay here again, and I do recommend.

We loved our stay! Got an ocean view room from the 3rd floor. Room was spacious with a huge balcony and comfy bed! The staff is very friendly! They have golf cart and bike rentals available which is convenient. I loved the location, we didn’t want to be right in the middle of San Pedro. The location to secret beach is amazing and prob my fav part of the island. Also, not more than 20 minutes from San Pedro. You can set up airport pick up/drop off which is convenient and set up excursions through them. There’s a lot of places to eat nearby as well.

The items to work on: the pool water was freezing! We wished we could actually get in but it wasnt hot enough out to enjoy. They have two swim up bars but both not in service during the day. The restaurant food is expensive and could be improved. The walls were kinda thin, we could hear our neighbor in the mornings. This isn’t their fault, but man did I get eaten alive by mosquitos on the island lol, even with deep woods off!

Overall, we would def stay again! Loved Belize and the people of Belize. Thanks For the stay!

Your comments have been well-received by all of us at Captain Morgan’s. It is our pleasure to leave our guests with a lasting impression. We're sorry you found the pools cold. Most properties here do not heat their pools as most of the time, the weather is plenty warm. We're sorry you found the temperature uncomfortable. We appreciate your positive feedback. We look forward to greeting you for a future visit.

The view from our room was about the only things that we loved. We planned this to be one of our more “high end” vacations for our 10 year anniversary. The price was absolutely ridiculous for what we got. First of all we rented a golf cart from town to get there. We ended up passing it two times before we found it because it looks a like a run down shed in front. Nothing other than a sign across the road that says “captain Morgan’s retreat”. No arrow or anything else that would suggest it’s right there. It looks like sand on the beach, it is not. It’s hard, almost like a gravel. The water there is not drinkable so you have to purchase a 5 gallon tank of water for your stay. We woke up the first morning and ordered breakfast at the resort that took over 2 hours to finally get. It was good, but not great. The main pool is possibly the smallest pool I’ve ever seen at a resort. The swimup bar is not running and apparently hasn’t been for over three years. The staff was very friendly which was encouraging. We had to finally ask for room service on day four to get fresh towels and our garbages empty. We listened to construction the entire time we were there. Very disappointed and would not go back.

The staff was very nice and helpful. Our unit was good but a bit outdated. There is some construction going on.The casino on site is not operating. The food was good but we did get fooled on one night for the BBQ we were told if we wanted to try two entrees we could for the same price as one( $35) but with smaller portions. When the bill came we were charged $70 for the ones who chose two.All four of us had questioned the waiter and he assured us the price would be the same. Needless to say we were not happy and only went there for one more meal.Found the Capricorn restaurant and were very happy there. The biggest disappointment is the beach area. They are inundated by sargassum seaweed which covers the beach area and smells HORRIBLE.We did go on a snorkeling trip from the tours there which was beautifull but the nearest place to swim in the ocean was Secret Beach which was a long ride over bumpy roads in our rented golf cart. the roads are HORRIBLE.I know the seaweed is affecting the entire sea but if we had known we would not have gone there.

The resort can pick you up on their golf cart but I would recommend renting a golf cart right outside the airport and driving yourself over there and that way you have access to transportation throughout your stay. People really don’t drive there, they only use golf carts and bikes for the most part.

It looked permanently closed to me, I would guess the new owners bought the property for the Casino Lic as the resort needs a complete renovation and they are doing minimal repairs on site.
