Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travellers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.
My spouse and I stayed on this property for ten days and it has a mixture of good and "needs improvement." First the good: excellent overhead lighting in all rooms. One of the best in properties we've rented over the years with really good lighting. Next, the air conditioner is very quiet air conditioner. A+ on that. Third, the people and staff on the island are extremely friendly. Kudos on the customer service.
There were, however, several areas of Needs Improvement: 1) Pool/beach towels. You only get one per person. In most resorts, you get two towels per person. One towel for your backrest, the other for your legs (or one that doubles as a pillow for snoozing around the pool). Sunset Caribe....up your game and give guests two towels for the pool! 2) Pay close attention to your booking and ask about the laundry. In our room, the owners locked the washer/dryer behind a door, even though the pictures on the website showed an open laundry room. The only way to do laundry was to ask housekeeping to do it. I prefer to do my own laundry, thank you. 3) Concierge. Travel tip...skip the concierge and book your scuba, snorkeling, sailing, etc. directly through the vendor. You'll save yourself a bunch of cash. 4) Ditto for renting a golf cart. There are at least a dozen vendors willing to rent you a golf cart and I'd bet that all of them are cheaper that what the resort offers. Do your shopping. 5) One last tip to all travelers: ask about neighboring construction. There was on-going construction next to the property. If you are going to a location for rest and relaxation, it's best to find out if you'll be listening to noise throughout your stay.

The place is essentially brand new and they are still working on a couple of extra buildings. While there is construction going on towards one end of the property it did not interfere or bother us at all. I think they are being very conscious about noise, and when to start and end their work day. We heard some noise here and there but hardly anything that affected our stay negatively. On the contrary, we got a great deal on pricing, and everything was totally worth it. The pools are gorgeous, the units are so pretty, modern and new. We used the washer and dryer one time on our own (even though we could have requested laundry services). All the staff were warm, welcoming and helpful, from our shuttle driver, to lobby attendants, to bartenders at the swim up bar, and staff we saw working around the premises every day. They were specially sweet with our 2 year old.
Note: this hotel is on the bay side, not the ocean side. But the ocean is across the street and for the most part you cannot swim in it, so in reality, it didn’t really matter to us that we weren’t ocean front. Our unit walked out right out to the pool and the beautiful view of the bay, we were very happy with it!
The restaurants are across the street at the sister hotel Grand Caribe. The food is ok, but if you come to Belize and you’re a bit of a foodie like I am, you’ll find that most restaurants are very “Americanized” so that’s kind of how it is. We only ate at Rain, one of the property restaurants once. The view was pretty and the server was friendly. There’s also a convenient store across the street for some essentials.
Overall we loved staying at Subset Caribe. It’s in close proximity to everything and once you rent a golf cart which everybody does, you can be pretty much everywhere within minutes. This includes Secret Beach which is about 25 minutes away and totally worth the trip. It’s like going on a little adventure! Sunset Caribe was an awesome choice for our little family!

This was our second trip to Ambergris Caye, San Pedro Town, and Sunset Caribe. I would say the experience at Sunset is getting better and better! The front desk check in area is in the new space and includes a coffee bar which we used on multiple occations! The concierge was helpful getting us set up with golf carts and whatever else was needed. The facilities were all very well kept and functional. I think Sunset Caribe is one of the gems on Ambergris Caye. The buildings block the winds that are often prevelent from the ocean side so laying out at the pool is very relaxing. They are building an additional section on the south side of the facility so there are construction noises starting at around 6:00 am during the week. Didn't bother us much. We find the location of Sunset Caribe and Grand Caribe is perfect. There is a lot of traffic in San Pedro these days and being just north of town allows us to easily go into town if we want or, because there is so much available between the hotel and town, avoid town altogether. That's difficult to do because there are just sooooo many great food choices around San Pedro. Rain is very good. A little on the pricier side for the island but very good and great views. I loved Aji Tapa behind Grand Caribe. Another great choice within walking distance from Sunset Caribe. Breakfast at either Tres Cocos or Pur are highly, highly recommended. Our family kept going back for more!

Buildings and units are nicely equipped and glorious views of the lagoon. We experienced AirBnB for one of our stays ands, then stayed direct through the resort when we came back a following trip. Having the support of the owners made a difference when it came to having minor issues fixed.
For those worried about power, water, internet, we found all of their back-up systems to be nearly seamless. Whilst there is s 3rd building under construction, it can nor be heard inside the unit. Unfortunately, the positioning of this new building limits the amount of sun for the pool with the bar, building two (lofts in particular) will give you ratio with walk out pool that ha sun nearly all day.
We very much enjoyed the staff and did not go without when we asked for something. I only chose 3/5 due to the inconsistency of the pool bar hours, staffing hours and tenure, new rules being out in place without warning (incremental cost) and mistakes made by concierge mistaking our check out day resulting in our needing to scramble and stay with a friend.
Overall -- the location on San Pedro is brilliant, there is a spa attached to Sunset and Grande Caribe and Sunset is a great price for what you get, and very friendly neighbors to share the best spots on the island.

I want to start out by saying San Pedro was amazing! The hotel was beautiful on arrival and we received welcome drinks during checked in. We got to the room and it was beautiful! Once we settled in and went to take showers the water was COLD. We let the front desk know and they sent someone to check it. He said he fixed and at the time it was late so we didn’t check behind him but the next day we showered and again the water was cold so they sent another person out and the actually repaired it. Then day two we stated seeing huge bugs 🪳 one I ended up killing but it was multiple bugs so we went to front desk and requested a refund. The manager said they can’t refund but can upgrade our room. Do we were placed in a room on the fourth floor which was beautiful as well. We had no more bug issues and the hot water actually worked!
But on a better note the pool and hot tub were amazing and the bartender Hener was the absolute best! The drinks were top notch and he was very knowledgeable and helpful with suggestions on places to visit when out and about. He is one of the reasons we would return and stay at Sunset Caribe the other reason would be because of the views! If you ever stay here stop by the pool bar to say Hi and have a drink made Hener!!

This place was very nice. We had the 3 bedroom suit. It was very spacious and accommodated our girls' trip of 5. We had a couple of problems. When we arrived, the trash bin was broken, the icemaker wasn't working, and a window was left cracked, and mosquitoes had invaded the living room. But whenever we had an issue, the hotel came up and fixed it almost immediately. We had some cleaning issues with trash left behind, and the dining room table never getting cleaned properly. But nothing to bad. The view we had over the pool and bay was nice. The construction next door wasn't great, but it didn't ruin my balcony relaxation. The front desk staff and all the other staff members we came in contact with were all very nice and helpful. This is definitely a place I would stay at again.

The unit was nice but jacuzzi is not hot and the pool is too cold to go into. The jacuzzi also has no jets so you basically sit in warm water. Good location with easy access to downtown and other areas of the island. I would most likely not return based on the jacuzzi and pool.

My wife and I were guests at Sunset Caribe for a week in January 2024. Caribeville Travel staff were the absolute best for what we needed as first time visitors to Ambergris Caye. They set up out hopper flight via Maya Air from Belize International, they scheduled the shuttle taxi from the San Pedro airport to the resort (both ways) and arranged for our golf cart rental. All seamless! The staff from check in to check out were just awesome and so very friendly to us and our guests. Actually, if you can find someone on Ambergris Caye that isn't wonderful and pleasant to talk too than you've found something I could not. From every shop keeper to restauant employee, they are respectfull, pleasant, hard working people.
The front desk staff are terrific at Sunset Caribe. They get right on requests and will call restarants for you if you don't have cell service. The grounds are well kept and beautiful.
You're not on the "ocean" side but, for us, that was perfect. We have a cabin in northern Wisconsin and it's very much like that. Loved the view. But being on that side blocked the winds that were kind of high that week. You have access to the Grand Caribe right across the street and we enjoyed walking around exploring that area as well. The pools area was very, very nice. It's nice to be just north of San Pedro, at least we though so. Less traffic but quite close to the "action" of town. Walking distance to Marbucks coffee so we loved doing that each morning.
The rooms were very nice with great balcony space. You could watch cable/satelite tv if you wanted some down time. I really loved the rooms.
There are plenty of places to stay on Ambergris Caye from large to small but Sunset Caribe is at the top of my list.

Girls trip by 4 seasoned travelers in July 2022. We stayed in the 2 bedroom/2 bath room 205. The unit was modern, very spacious and tastefully decorated with a full kitchen. Huge balcony overlooking the pool. It was even nicer than the official website pictures. The hotel has a large pool that felt like an adults only (quiet) oasis while we were there. The hotel is on the lagoon side so no beach access. But amazing views. And we had access to the pool at the sister property across the street Grand Caribe that had several more pools (including swim up bar) and swimable beach access. Shawne at the front desk was patient and very helpful. There is still construction next door but it didn’t bother us at all. Our snorkeling tour company arranged by the hotel picked us up by boat right across the street. The food at the pool and Rain is good. Get the fish sandwich. You can get better rates on golf carts off property but we still used the hotel option one day for the convenience to go to Secret beach. The only suggestion that would make this hotel even better is if they offered a free shuttle into town and maybe also to secret beach a few times a day. I would definitely stay here again.

Was really nice that our group of 5 could check in early even though room hadn’t been checked by the staff. We found that there was only 3 coffee cups, 2 water glasses and no water available. in room. Told Reception and were told it would rectified, we stayed 2 days and only 3 bottles of water was given to us, we were told that that was all they had available. On Day 2 early morning as we didnt have water I decided to go to shop to purchase, asked Reception where grocery shop was and was told it was across the road, what they didn’t tell me is that it didn’t open until 8am. The Reception knew I was walking iver there at 7.15am. Towels were taken away and not replaced for some reason and there was no coffee to buy on site unless you purchased from Rain and it was delivered to your room. Customer Service from Reception Staff needs improving. The hotel itself is nice, we had a 3 bed condo and was nicely furnished although one if my sinks was blocked. Would I return to Sunset Caribe fir my next trip? No
