Detailed Reviews
I really can’t say enough good things about The Little Nell. It is simply put, a gorgeous, extremely comfortable and welcoming high-end hotel, sparing no expense to make one’s stay as perfect as possible. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by name and treated like royalty by the professional and well-trained staff. Our room was perfect — a good size and well designed and furnished, lots of plugs for devices, a lot of hooks for hanging wet clothes, very comfortable bed with really nice linens, fire place, usable balcony, big tub and a separate walk-in shower, huge bath towels, heated floors, and complimentary snacks and soft-drinks. The fitness center is very nicely done, not huge but more than sufficient for a good workout, and clean and well taken care of. There is a modest size outdoor swimming pool and a jacuzzi. The library near the spa is worth a visit, just to enjoy the decor. As noted above, service is impeccable. The location adjacent to the gondola and ski lift is an obvious plus (though we visited in the summer, so the ski-in and out aspect of the hotel was not a factor for us), though note that the noise from the gondola is audible at the pool all day and was audible in our room when we had the balcony door open. Our mountain-facing room was extremely quiet at night; I am a noise sensitive sleeper and this is always a plus for me. The fabulous Rio Grande Trail is a short distance from the hotel and great for running and biking. All in all, it was very difficult to leave after three fabulous days at the Nell. This is a first rate hotel.

Dear michaelj726, Thank you so much for your glowing review! We are thrilled to hear that your stay at The Little Nell was exceptional and that you felt welcomed and well-cared for by our team. It’s wonderful to know that you enjoyed the many comforts of your room, from the cozy fireplace to the thoughtful touches like heated floors and complimentary snacks. We're glad you had the opportunity to experience our amenities, including the fitness center, pool, and the inviting library near the spa. Our location next to the gondola is indeed a great advantage, and we appreciate your understanding of the ambient noise during the day. It's fantastic to hear that your mountain-facing room provided a peaceful night's sleep, especially being a noise-sensitive sleeper. We're also happy you had a chance to explore the beautiful Rio Grande Trail. It was truly a pleasure having you with us, and we hope to welcome you back to Aspen soon for another fabulous stay! Thank you again for taking the time to share your experience. Best, Henning Rahm General Manager

We just wrapped up a long weekend here during mud season. We had issue with the heat in our room which the staff quickly tried address and ended up moving up to the Roch suite. It was very generous and unexpected.
From the time we arrived until we left the hospitality was top notch. The suite was fanastic and loved the fireplaces and balcony. The bed was a Bryte ‘smart’ which had variable firmess and interesting, soft rolling motion feature. Very comfortable !
Mini bar was stocked and all non- alcoholic beverages were complimentary. You can arrange for free airport transport. We ate Element 47 for breakfast (vegetable scramble was soooo good) and Ajax Tavern. Both were good.
There is 24 room service, but the late night menu is light but nice to have the option.
The hotel is within walking distance of everything, including the Rubey Transit location where you can catch a clean and free bus to Aspen Highlands Plaza to get the Maroon Bells shuttle.
This hotel may not have the unique, location specific vibe of the Hotel Jerome ( our second choice and I recommend the J -Bar there), but we really wanted a fireplace and balcony and we loved our stay at the Little Nell.
Thank you !

For Ski in Ski out, nothing compares to Little Nell. Just the Ski Valet service alone is worth the trip, but it included First Tracks, which got us up and on the freshly groomed cordorouy by 8:15. Then ski back, jump in jacuzzi, float in heated pool, and hit the tavern.

As an Aspen local, I chose the Little Nell to surprise my husband for an overnight staycation for our anniversary. Recent service and food and beverage, as well as disruptive clientele, at other local luxury properties ruled them out. The Nell lived up in every guard to its distinguished reputation for service, from the front door and valet greeting, to ease of check in and room preparation. Every detail was attended to, personal preferences noted, flowers for our anniversary and chocolate covered strawberries with a Happy Anniversary in chocolate "note". Every aspect of the experience felt fresh, even though just after an exceptionally busy holiday season. The staff shared great esprit de corp, attention to personalized service, and job satisfaction, pretty low in aspen right now. In room dining was prompt, food and presentation was exceptional, including a wide selection of choices for breakfast, all day dining and dinner. The room was romantic, very light and fresh in decor and appearance, as is the hotel, the entrance, apres ski gathering room, even the floor hallways and elevator had a gorgeous beige with blue detail carpet. We made a same day decision to stay two nights instead of one, told we would not be able to stay in the same room. Before we arrived, reservations had "waved a wan" and we had a room for two nights, which truly enhanced our relaxation and enjoyment. Great break for us, in a warm and relaxed environment, despite a long weekend during ski season high vibe. With the average price for a room during winter break of $945, staying at the Nell, in an exceptional guest room, with sitting area and fireplace and balcony, around $2050, quality supported the value. Do it again in a heart beat, which we would not at any other Aspen property.

You will never find more accommodating personal attention than you get at the little Nell. From being greeted by the charming bellmen who wish your belongings to your suite when you arrive to being handed a glass of fine champagne by Rob the front desk manager, you will feel like royalty. From the moment you arrive, they remember your name as well as your dog's! Their concierges are all excellent. Carol was one of my favorites. Their complimentary transportation was exceptional. Heidi was our favorite housekeeper as she delivered all of our special requests. Marlene and Ana were also great. Unfortunately the exceptional restaurant Element 47 wasn't open for dinner on Monday or Tuesday during our stay, but their breakfasts sure made up for that. Louis from Mexico City was beyond welcoming as well as accommodating with the great service by Sheila. Their coffee service was over the top with warmed creamers and robust coffee. The complimentary pistachio muffins were an unexpected treat from their phenomenal pastry chef. I asked for her original recipe for the outrageous home made dog bone treats only to find out it was a secret! No problem as we will be back soon. You must try the lemon soufflé pancakes as well as all of the fresh ingredients in the made to order omelet surrounded by delicious sausage and perfect potatoes. Their flowers and amenities around the pool were top notch. The complementary treats and beverages in our suite made us feel like we were on a luxury cruise! We couldn't have had a lovelier vacation!

My stay at The Little Nell was a hotel experience above any I have had in decades. I stay in decent quality hotels for frequent business travel (this was personal travel) and they do not compare to The Little Nell. The size and features of my room, the bathroom, the fitness center, the hotel dining and common areas, were all light-years above those of any hotel I've stayed in over the past 25 years.
The staff were all very friendly and responsive, especially the Concierge, parking and housekeeping staff (I didn't deal much with other hotel staff during my stay). A stay at the The Little Nell may cost a little bit more than other hotels (but all hotels in Aspen are more expensive than in non-resort areas - this town is up in the mountains after all), but if you visit Aspen for any reason, you should try this hotel. It was well worth the price, and you'll remember staying at The Little Nell.

Cons
1_Toilet had several urin stains upon arrival and when I called front desk to report, she started arguing with me that it is not possible? I have pictures and no 5 star hotel would debate with hotel guests who's urine is it, they would just send staff to clean.Â
Manager offered free massage to make up for it, I declined. I need a clean room not free stuff.Â
2_ Sink was clogged upon arrival, engineers had to spend 30 minutes unclogging it.Â
3_ Room service food is terrible, chicken soup had 2 peices of chicken the rest was all noodles.Â
4_ Shuttle to snowmass goes only till 10 AM, anytime after it's $120 and only on the hour till 10 and pick up is only till 2 and again on the hour or else you have to pay another $120. Misleading, Concierge said no need for rental. Save yourself a ton of money and rent from Turo for $90/ day instead of all these $120.
5_ We got very sick a week before our trip and hotel refused to work with us and change our stay date. All 5 star hotels like four season seasons, Fairmont, pelican hill, montage,... always work with customer. 2 of our party ended up staying in our room the entire sta.
Pros
1_ Leah at Concierge and some of the staff were very nice.

We go to Aspen for loads of reasons, and usually the top one is to ski. In which case, there is no better place to stay than The Little Nell. To truly spoil yourself, take advantage of the fact the rooms are literally a 30-second walk to the gondola. Which means you can ski in the morning, come home for lunch and relaxation, then go out again and close the day. Also, staying at The Little Nell means you can go for First Tracks which is for hotel guests only and allows guests to go up the mountain an hour before it opens to the public. When you're done, you just drop your gear off at the ski concierge, so there is no uncomfortable lugging around of gear, even boots. I also love there is a complimentary transportation service via private cars and shuttles to get you around town. Aside from that, the hotel is right in the center of town so everywhere is walkable. Plus, the food is incredible, Ajax Tavern is such a fun place for Aprés (and it's right at your doorstep), there's great art all over the hotel, there's a great restaurant and fun wine bar, the service and staff are impeccable and The Little Nell manages to do all this while feeling, plush, inviting, relaxing and unpretentious. There is an intimacy to this hotel which makes a quiet place of luxury. And did I mention every room has a fireplace?

My family (2 boys under the age of 9 and wife) and I stayed at the Little Nell for 8 days and 7 nights in June of 2021. We were coming in hot off of Covid and a missed 40th the prior year for my wife. So we went all in on accommodations with a suite for such an extended period. As much as we enjoyed the location and promise of The Little Nell, it unfortunately undelivered.
1) The pool service was terrible. Depending where you sit on the pool deck, you may or may not ever talk to a server. On one occasion, I had to ask if our area of the patio was ‘off limits’ for food because we were ignored while the waiter took orders from other guests. Most days, we had to find someone to take our order.
2) The Element 47 service was not good. We ate there some mornings, but after several breakfasts with poor service we ended up going to a small cafe down the street. There was one meal I would have tipped 20%, but oddly they force you into tipping 20%. We would always order a side of peanut butter for our youngest son, and 50% of the time, it wouldn’t come. I had to ask for coffee and water refills more than 50% of the time. They would consistently mix-up who ordered what when bringing out the food. It was almost like they opened Element 47 that week for the first time ever, with an apparent steep learning curve.
3) The pool was frigid. Then too hot. Then yesterday, cold again. Another family from Denver was at the pool where we discussed this.
4) On a random Tuesday, we waited for 20+ minutes to receive just water at Ajax. Of course, we decided not to order any food after that. After a while of staring at employees in an attempt to determine WTF, it appeared the bar tender was drinking and giving alcohol to other Ajax employees. I have yet to hear an apology on this one.
5) Of course, this trip was about my wife’s birthday (two actually). 40 and 41 because it was missed last year. The hotel, despite being acutely aware of this because of my itinerary (I had setup 4 birthday dinners in fact), did not wish her a happy birthday, did not send a card, champagne or chocolates, or anything. Truly bizarre.
6) I had to ask the concierge multiple times about the same topic or reservation. It was like Groundhog Day. Every time I'd call, it was like reintroducing myself as the dude living in your hotel for a week who has one or multiple activities planned every single day. If not for my persistence, I would not have had an itinerary I desired.

I visited last December with my dad for an early season ski trip. We heard AMAZING things about the Little Nell from friends, so we were excited to book our stay here. It was our first time skiing Aspen (we usually ski in Deer Valley or Europe) so we wanted to try out both the Little Nell and Hotel Jerome as we heard those were the two best. We found it a bit underwhelming and disappointing, especially relative to our stay at Hotel Jerome.
Service
We heard that the service here was outstanding, we found it very cold and at times unprofessional. Our breakfast server was quite rude. The concierge was not the most helpful with making dinner reservations. Overall it was fine, but certainly no standout service except at the ski room! The ski room had excellent service and were very friendly.
Room
It felt very outdated and not cohesive. The barn sliding doors are quite bizarre. The balcony was small. The bed was very comfortable though which is critical after a day of skiing.
Food
Nothing memorable, but the food was fine. Breakfast was good each morning - there could be a few more options.
Overall, by no means is the Little Nell a bad hotel. In our experience, it was not as special as we had heard, so we were quite disappointed with our stay and wouldn’t be our first choice to book again in Aspen. By contrast, we really loved Hotel Jerome and found the service to be much superior.
