To start, at check in, the front office person wasn’t wearing a mask. This isn’t a huge deal to me but based on the rest of the trip I think it reflects on the lack of cleanliness protocols and service level to be expected while you’re here. The walls above the toilets (and other areas) in the king bedroom I stayed in have a slant to them on a number of the corners. So if you’re even slightly tall (and forget that whoever designed this room wasn’t), you’ll likely hit your head at least once. My dad and I both did this once after getting up from the can. It’s not a normal reflex to remember to look up when finishing with a toilet. There were jets in the bathtub but they didn’t work. We mentioned something on the morning of the 2nd day of our stay to have this rectified and nothing was done or any follow up response provided. The WiFi is free, but pretty meh. On the fourth floor, my connection would constantly bounce back and forth between WiFi and cellular data. It wasn’t hot in Catalina but somehow the room was still stuffy and the effectiveness of the air conditioner/fan combo is probably a 3 or 4/10. Catalina is beautiful, this place is not. It’s in an excellent location, but the perks stop there. If you have the opportunity, my recommendation is to do more research and try to find a better place at a similar price point. This place would’ve got 2 stars based on the price if it wasn’t in such a desirable location

Location is great. History of the hotel is also fascinating. Everything else is extremely poor quality for the outrageous price, although they are in line with other hotels in Avalon. 1. Not Covid-secure: the hotel is not clean. Carpet is dirty all over the hotel. The standard of cleaning wouldn’t be acceptable without Covid. Staff is not always wearing a mask. Dust in visible places like bedside lamps, furniture, bathroom cabinet, bathroom wooden walls and floor. Balcony furniture stained and dirty and it’s clearly visible that no deep cleaning has been done in ages. Room phone untouchable. All bed lining and towels have staines. Shower head and shower curtain very mouldy, bathroom taps not properly clean. The first day the toilet was not even flushed and dirty. The standard now is to deep clean when new guests arrive. No deep cleaning has ever been done in this room. 2. Advertised renovated rooms: The King Room with balcony is renovated in terms of painting and TV. However, the furniture has just been badly repainted, giving a sticky touch and smell to the wood features. Closet door has missing pieces, not all the lights in the room are working. Bathroom cabinet is damaged. Window nets are partially ripped so there’s no protection from flies getting into the room. Blinds don’t work properly. The room is extremely noisy as the windows are not noise-isolated. Floor boards are very flimsy and you can hear every step of people upstairs. Walls are very thin and you can hear loud neighbours. 3. Customer Service: poor communication at reception when you check in. No explanation provided about wi-fi, covid measures. I have found out the below by asking during the course of the first day. The price of the room includes breakfast and housekeeping, however they are not providing these services due to Covid-19 and most of all they don’t provide alternatives (for example: discounts to cafes and restaurants to compensate the missing breakfast). The first day we asked to have the room cleaned as items described on point 2 and we were told that they don’t provide housekeeping during the stay. If we need new towels or anything else we would need to ask. We had to go every day in the housekeepers breaking area to get towels. We cleaned the room ourselves using disinfectant wipes. Hiding behind being Covid secure (when they are not, as explained in previous points), nothing else advertised is provided (for example kettle). The most disappointing point is really the lack of communication and the lack of being customer service oriented.

We booked this hotel stating it was a 3-star hotel, rooms at $875.00 and our special hotel rate was $199.00. Upon entering the hotel it is very apparent the hotel has not been kept up. The carpet, sofas and chairs were filthy and it was very dark and dreary inside. Our hotel room was not much better. The mattress was so old it sunk in the middle. The air conditioner was so high up on the wall, we had to stand on a chair to turn it on, which was filthy. We had to clean the dirt and dust off the vents in order to even use it. The window did not lock and the bathroom had a sewer odor and constantly ran. When we tried to fix it by lifting off the tank cover, it was full of black mold and smelled terrible. The tub was a huge step up deep jacuzzi tub that was dangerous to even get in or out of. Inside the huge deep tank tub it was chipped and not inviting at all. Of course, we understand there was no service offered to our room due to COVID, but there was a dirty towel outside a hotel room in the hallway that was never picked up for 3 days. We even overheard another patron who said he saw black mold in the window of his room and said they should really take care of it as it was extremely dangerous. We would never stay at this hotel again.

My wife and I needed a place to take out of town friends, and to relieve our own pandemic "cabin fever". I hit on the idea of an overnight stay in Catalina. ( We live in L.A.). I made arrangements through Glenmore Plaza Hotel for 2 adjoining balcony rooms and round trip transport on the Catalina Express. All this was paid in advance and was SUPPOSED to be NON-REFUNDABLE. The night before our friends were to arrive, they had a death in their family. I phoned Jimmy at the Glenmore front desk and explained the situation: that my wife and I would still come ( we really NEEDED to get away, if only for an overnight stay), but that our friends could not. Almost before i was through explaining, Jimmy offered condolences, and volunteered to take care of a REFUND for our friends' room , as well as their RT tickets on the Express. This kind of EXEMPLARY customer service is no small thing, and should not pass unnoticed. Glenmore Plaza goes to the top of our list on all future trips to Avalon. One minor suggestion: keep "soundproof" bathroom door closed, as constantly running toilet might otherwise disturb your rest.

Stay away from this place if you were on the brink or questioning booking your stay here. I came to Catalina with my mom and family to celebrate my moms birthday. On the first night they didn’t have a room available upon check in for my aunt and her family even tho they had proof of advance registration. Additionally, on the same night my mom and I were put in a smaller room than we had purchased. The following day they were unwilling to move us to the correct size room AND refund us the difference of the room we got vs the room we purchased for the first night unless we stayed in the smaller room the entire stay. It’s been nothing but issues since arriving and an unwillingingness from management and ownership to help. Usually I like to stay at the Pavillion and will make sure I take my business there next time I visit the island.
