This is another review from me for the Grand Hyatt in Washington, DC. Whenever we spend a weekend in DC, this is one of my top choices for lodging. I really enjoy the ambience of this hotel. Also, it is so convenient to restaurants, museums, shopping, etc. And, most of the time you can go directly from the hotel lobby to the Metro Center subway stop (for the Red, Orange, Blue, and Silver Lines.) The rooms are always clean and comfortable. Staff are professional, and friendly. I like the interior rooms with the view of the expansive hotel atrium.

Stopped in DC on way home to NY and see a Hoya basketball game at the Capital One Arena. Had dinner twice in City Center across the street. Great choices and very convenient. Highly recommend you self park you car in City Center garage, $20 vs. $62 valet. Walking distance to arena and many major landmarks and museums. Rooms are of average size and amenities. The Starbucks in the lobby is super efficient. Highly recommend the hotel if you need a convenient downtown spot to stay without a lot of frills.

I read that the hotel was cold and dirty and that the service was poor. None of that was true in my experience. The room was clean, you can control the temperature with a thermostat, and the service I received was very good—perhaps not equal to a hotel that costs 5x as much, but still very good.

The bed was reasonably comfortable, and I slept well. The pillows were average but I took an extra one of my own which helped.

The location is perfect for what I needed, and I love that the metro is right under the hotel so you don’t need to even exit the building to get to the train.

I loved both the Cure and Cabinet restaurants, and they had a store that let me purchase a couple of things I ended up needing.

It makes me wonder if those that gave this place one star were talking about the same place. Maybe a few people did have a bad experience, but mine was excellent, and I will plan to stay here again!

After about two years of hiatus, Hyatt choice came to be accidental. I have nothing to compare to, but afraid that fundamental changes to the Hospitality industry are not Hyatt specific.
It is only "Grand" if you are the architecture or the interior design buff. It does have a Grand Foyer. But beyond that it is nothing but the indistinguishable hotel providing adequate accommodation.
Since the Service as a major differentiator is a tale of the past, this hotel is as "Grand" as nearby Regency or distant Motel 6.
You can still get the coffee replenishment if you request it. You can still drink the coffee if you requested coffee cups, but make sure that you didn't forget to request the condiments. Because we only stayed for three nights we enjoyed no other Hospitality Services and fortunately had enough plastic bags to take care of the garbage. To be fare we were offered but declined the separate purchase of the Housekeeping.
The overnight parking choices range from ridiculous $62 for "Valet" to $45 for Self
We didn't use either but noticed that Valet desk is not manned 7/24, but gets aggressive when you leave the vehicle on the driveway to check in.
Another choice is to self-park across the avenue at half the price.
The Location is excellent. For the Location be prepared to be charged the "Destination Fee". Be prepared to be charged the "Destination Fee" even when your reservation and corporate rate has a fee waiver provision.
"Destination Fee" of $23/day offsets by $10 food/drink credit when you spent at least $11.50. Make sure to keep the receipt if you charged to the room. The credit would not appear as a separate line item on your hotel bill. I wouldn't know how the credit works

Stayed two nights here shortly after New Years, using one Award Night and a Points Night. Used a Club Upgrade voucher (for the Points Night only since Hyatt doesn't allow that for Award Nights. Booo!) Requested an early check in when I made the reservation and we very much appreciated Michelle letting us check in at noon! As the Club was closed for service that weekend, we were offered the option of saving our Club Upgrade, but chose instead the offer to receive a credit for breakfast at the restaurant as well as another credit amount at the bar! We made use of both and were very satisfied with this alternative. The menu prices at both the restaurant and bar were a bit high (although probably well in line for downtown DC), but the credits allowed us to enjoy both a nice breakfast and drinks/snacks after a night out which we otherwise might've skipped had we been paying.
The hotel lobby and the room were stylish and attractive, and we had no complaints at all. We arrived initially by rental car and found inexpensive hourly street parking very close by for our check in. After returning the car, we found the hotel to be very convenient to three Metro lines, including interior access to the Metro Center station from the lobby! The hotel is an easy 5-7 min walk from the Mall, and has plenty of restaurants in the immediate vicinity.
Michelle assisted us again for check out, and was friendly, professional and made us want to return! I would definitely stay again!

I've traveled to DC many times and this was my first time staying at the Grand Hyatt.

I'll start with the positives:

Aesthetically the hotel is beautiful! Modern decor, beautiful lighting, and very clean. Hand sanitizer is abundantly available. The hotel is in a great location. Very close to the National Mall and a few blocks away from the Metro. Plenty of restaurants and pubs in the area. The customer service is outstanding! Every staffer with whom I interacted was absolutely delightful. I want to highlight Tom who carried our bags to the room. He was charming, funny and very attentive. Requests were addressed promptly. The rooms were really nice, beds were very comfortable, bathroom is well lit and the hair dryer is pretty good by hotel standards. Overall I had a great stay.

Things that didn't go so well:

Parking is way too expensive at this hotel and I live in NYC! We ended up parking at a garage nearby. On the first day of my stay, only half the elevators were in operation. With a 3-person limit due to COVID this meant either waiting for several minutes or taking the stairs. Thankfully this was resolved by the following day. The room walls are pretty thin. I could hear the people next door very clearly if my TV wasn't on. The vending machine closest to my room (7th floor) was not working. I went to the vending machine at the opposite end and most of the drinks were sold out. I went to two more floors before I found a machine that wasn't completely sold out and there were only a couple of options available on that machine, plus the soft drink that came out was warm. Good thing the ice machine was working. Especially since my room fridge did not. Also my TV experienced signal loss for a couple hours but I assume that was weather-related. Finally, I was disappointed that breakfast was not included with our stay. The breakfast that was available didn't have much in the way of plant-based options. For this reason, i will be going to Marriott or Hilton on my next trip to DC.

Overall, I would say that this is a very nice hotel but for the price, I could definitely get more bang for my buck elsewhere.

I have stayed here several time before attending the HUD conferences in May with my old job and enjoyed my stay. So when we decided to come as a family for the weekend I suggested this hotel because of the location. Our visit included dinner at Georgia Brown’s, brunch at Ted’s Bulletin and visits to the African American Smithsonian and the Portrait Gallery. This hotel is mere blocks from these locations. Not to mention it has a full service Starbucks and Hotel restaurant in the lobby. There use to be an additional restaurant on the lower level that had a fantastic breakfast but it has now closed. This hotel has a gift shop with all the essential items to help make your stay more convenient. There’s a CVS a block away, shopping across the street and behind the hotel. I cannot say enough about the location and proximity to places that will enhance you visit.
The hotel is gorgeous, you walk in and it a tall atrium style with inside window to the hotel rooms that seem to go up forever! See pics. The rooms a nicely decorated with your normal hotel desk, tv, bed, corner chair, coffee maker and fridge. No microwave. You have to reheat your take out in the middle of the night by walking the really super long halls and taking the elevator down to the first floor to the microwave.
Hyatt please do better, spend the money and add microwaves to the rooms.
So there’s my first complaint. My other complaint is cleanliness…the sheets were stained, towels were stained and the pillow underneath the pillow case was a scary sight.
Hyatt please do better, spend the money and replace the pillows, towels and linen.
The conferences held at this place alone is a mega money maker…keep the high standard, and bump that cleaning up.
The greasy fingerprints all over the door, and everywhere else completely debunked the pandemic cleaning claims you have posted everywhere. Those housekeepers are running through those rooms and no extra wiping is taking place.
If you don’t need a clean place to stay but want fancy and convenience, this is your place. Don’t pull back the cover though. Hire more staff and make this place match the name.

Cost $62 a day to park my car, $20 a day for the convenience package which consists of two free waters free Wi-Fi which isn’t free because you’re paying $20 a day, $10 credit for food and beverage. The food and beverage is only good for room service which they mark up 21%. So basically on top of the $1500 I paid for five days I have to pay another $430 to park my car and to use Wi-Fi. Also my room looked like it had mold on the wall, but it turned out to be sprayed soda. With the spread of coronavirus going around right now you would think the room would be spotless when I came in . See pictures attached. I highly recommend AKA White House for anyone staying in DC

As a Hyatt member, I know there is a style range for Hyatt hotels. This place is geared for conferences and groups; as a solo traveler, I didn't feel so comfortable. My window opened to the center atrium, overlooking the lobby. To get to the fitness space, one walks across the lobby to access to the gym (on lower levels). +: My room was clean; I appreciated the hotel card about what the destination fee covers. Staff are great. When I mentioned at checkout that my room was not cleaned one day, they credited extra points to backup the apology. Location is great, w/ CURE restaurant, and a Starbucks in lobby, Fed Ex office in lower level. But, as a solo traveler, a bit too active for me.

The location of this hotel is excellent and is walking distance of many attractions including the Whitehouse, Capitol building, Washington monument etc. We can also recommend a visit to the botanic gardens which are just the other side of the capitol building and about a thirty minute walk.

We had a queen bed room overlooking H street and 11th street and we liked looking out over the busy district. We were offered a room overlooking the atrium at a slightly higher price but I really don't know why anybody would want to overlook the hotel lobby. We had no problem with noise from the street overnight.

The room was well proportioned and stocked although we did have to request dressing gowns and slippers on arrival which were delivered to our room promptly.

The only downside was the noise of the air conditioning unit. Luckily it wasn't so hot that we had to use it overnight but it may have been annoying if we had to.

There is a starbucks in the lobby as well as another restaurant that we didn't happen to use. There are many resturants in the nearby district. In particular there is a resturant/cafe just a few minutes walk away, I think on 12th street, called Tatte, which is fabulous for breakfast.

Room service wasn't always up to scratch and maybe a bit hurried: sometimes leaving the room a bit untidy and not replenishing the coffee and shower gels etc.

My wife is asian and was looking forward to visit Chinatown but it was a disappointment being a bit run down and not feeling like an entirely safe area to visit.

But all in all a very good choice for a reasonably priced hotel of a reasonable standard in an excellent location.

Actually, we found it safe. It's in a business area with lots of people and business open. It's also very close to the national mall, the museums and the white house. We walked back from our restaurant around 7 pm and it was fine. Just always be aware of what's around you.

Room upgrade at check-in and late checkout are possible. Best to call them to see what's going on at the moment - hotels are improvising and adapting a lot right now. At the time I went last month, things were very limited. Starbucks and the bistro were open under reduced hours, basic grab & go sandwiches were available for breakfast. The whole city was under lockdown/curfew, and the front entrance was locked. It should be different for the next person (I hope).
