After staying at the Citizen M in Rotterdam, I was pleasantly surprised to find one in Washington DC. The location was perfect for walking to the Smithsonian Museums and to the Wharf. The hotel was basically the same as the European properties, although this one had a larger bar and restaurant area. The staff was very friendly and efficient, and made our 4-day stay a real pleasure. The rooms are exactly as pictured, but since we did not plan to spend a great deal of time in the room, it was perfect. All in all, I love these hotels.
Would have been a good stay had I not been immediately confronted by an emasculated Black man dancing in red shoes and what appeared to be underwear. I understand that it's the "Vibe", but I've been to the Moxy and the Eaton Workshop --similar vibe -- without being distasteful. You could have achieved the same vibe, using the same dancer -- but with clothes -- or even leotards. I'm not sure of the message that you were trying to send. Please consider a different approach.
I had never stayed at a citizernM and was so pleased that I discovered your hotel in DC. I loved the whole concept. Your ambassadors had big personalities, were helpful and attentive. I like the funky, fun, interactive rooms. I appreciated the Cantina and the 24 hour access to drinks and snacks. Your bartender made a wicked hot chocolate at midnight for me. Made my business trip feel less stressed.
The room didnt have ventilation. The ac didnt work. The showers get water into the room but no one on staff cleans up. Can’t schedule cleaning because the app locks that ability until 12pm. Janitors wiuldnt let guests use the elevator while they were cleaning them. No one got me my amenities that I requested.
This hotel gives off an effort “to be minimal luxury” style. With a smaller room with maximized space usage. There are less amenities you would usually see in a typical budget hotel, in favor of higher tech as well as minimalistic decor design. That said I should start off with the hidden potential parking fee. This hotel location has no private parking. But instead relies on street parking or the adjoining residential garage. If you get unlucky with no street parking for the night, you’ll pay ~$50 for the garage fee. That alone would have been a huge factor for what hotel we choose. That said, if you’d like to try a minimalistic luxury style just for kicks it may me worth trying once. Oh btw there is no warning for the gym, which is shared with the residential side. If you accidentally exit to their side. You’re locked out and can’t get back in. You’ll have to exit the apartment building And walk around to enter the hotel side…
I consider this hotel experience as the best one ever! Up until now, I have not enjoyed Washington D.C. that much, and prefer not visiting, but this hotel stay has prompted my change of mind. For anyone wanting a room that is clean, it is doubtful that you'll find a cleaner room experience than here. Everything that was supposed to shine, shined, even in the corners and crease areas. Excellent.
The hotel is close to most attractions, which means that you can visit many places by walking. It also features affordable price, modernist design style, and automatic mode of room controlling. However the rooms don't smell good, and it doesn't provide free water. Bottled water offered by the war is expensive, so you may need to go to CVS for purchasing water.
Super easy Check-in, great rooms to control with Tablet or mobile App, great bed. The service was great and the hotel is located realy near to a metro station. Great concept and what i have to say especially: The breakfast was very very very delicious. Such a good Coffee. Online Check-out was also great and fantastic. Thank you for this amazing stay.
The staff was very nice and the Hotel is clean. On sunday morning they blasted music at breakfast so loud we couldn't talk and had to find another area in the Hotel to eat. The air was so bad in the room especially after a shoer we had to leave the door wide open to get air. Hard to sleep also because it was so hot and no way to cool down the room.
Overall, my husband and I had a really positive experience. The staff were all very friendly and helpful! The room is compact and very aligned with what we’ve experienced in Europe. It’s a fantastic value if traveling solo or as a couple. My only complaint is regarding the room temperature controls. The in-room iPad gave the option to control this, but it simply did not work. A maintenance rep came to check it out and said the temperature was actually controlled by the front desk. We couldn’t actually change it. While it may seem minor, it did make it harder for me to sleep as a result of feeling so warm. Again, I’d still recommend this place as all other facilities and amenities were great.
