What a gem. We came to Waiheke Island with out anywhere to stay and found a lovely respite. My husband is ill and appreciated the quite, bird filled bush setting. We extended our stay from 2 nights to 5. Thank you for showing us how to disconnect from a busy world.

9 of us stayed over two nights.... we had the main house as well as the tree house out the back.

the hosts basically handed over their home to us - it was comfortable, quirky, conveniently located, all the beds were comfortable, they gave us access to and use of all their stuff and everything in the kitchen. the main living space is great for socialising, and overall, it's big enough to have multiple spaces, plenty of room to move and places to be depending on your mood.

We were touring in New Zealand and belatedly decided to spend part of Easter in Waiheke. The tourist board helped us find accomodation described as a secluded place to relax. We arrived at the Treehouse and whilst it appeared to be modern and self contained it was by no means secluded. Just yards away from the owners house and deck in the corner of their garden - and an untidy deck at that, with kids toys on it.

We are the new owners of The Treehouse, Waiheke Island. Please note that this review is now 6 years old and as recent owners we have made major alterations to the property. The Treehouse now has it's own very private large deck and entertaining area complete with Spa Pool and Fish Pond. Our guests enjoy the lovely relaxing space whilst they soak in the Spa amongst the native trees and birdsong. We have many happy guests who always comment of the privacy and tranquility of The Treehouse and its setting. We look forward to welcoming you to enjoy it too.

Spent 2 nights here but wasn’t long enough and we would love to return in the not too distant future. Owner is very helpful but once she’d met us left us to our own devices. The house is in their back garden but you wouldn’t know it as very private & quiet and it was lovely to relax in the very private spa pool in the evenings and enjoy a wine on the spacious deck after a hard days sightseeing. Wonderful experience to sleep in the upstairs bedroom with the windows completely pulled back (& the mozzie net around the bed) and to hear the birds singing in the morning. Kitchen is compact but very well stocked. House is 10 minutes easy walk from Oneroa village in one direction & Cable Bay Vineyard in the other, use the torch provided at night. Didn’t use the TV or try the Wi-Fi as this is the kind of place you should come to switch off “literally”.

For a quiet relaxing break away, you couldn't ask for more than The Treehouse. Kate was a lovely host, welcoming and made everything so easy. The location is ideal, within walking distance to Cable Bay and Oneroa town. The property has everything that you need for a perfect break away from the hustle and bustle, the spa was in a beautiful setting, the scenery was outstanding, the property had everything you would need and the owners were a pleasure to meet.

Peaceful setting in a lush garden. Very zen.
The treehouse is a beautiful well-kept, very well equipped escape.
Walking distance to town and close to Mudbrick and Cable Bay wineries.
Kate was a sweetheart, the perfect host.
Will highly recommend to all.

No views, over grown shrubbery, tree house run down, lounge looked 20 years old with wear/age stains & pillows had mould on them, no mosquito netting like in advertisement photos, we woke at 1am with no less than 50 mosquitoes attacking us, no fly screens to have windows open, bathroom dark & in dire need of renovation, 1 tiny shelf to use which was falling apart as when the shower is used everything gets wet, thick dust everywhere, we booked a 2 night stay, we left after 1 as it was that disappointing, we couldn’t stand the musty smell of the place any longer, I definitely would not recommend staying here!

This property has many pros:
Kate is very pleasant and efficient and very helpful with any queries. The “Tree house” is a 3 storey “tower” sitting at the bottom of the owner’s garden in a pretty bush and garden setting with an excellent outside spa. The property is on a surburban road close to the ferry landing and within easy walking distance (about 10 minutes) to Oneroa (superette, shops, restaurants and cafes, including the lovely Oyster Inn) and on a bit further to the main Oneroa beach (a small hill to negotiate). Getting to the cabin requires walking down a steep gravel pathway 75m from road (much of Waiheke is similar) which could be an issue for the less agile. Once at the cabin the ambience was peaceful, pretty and romantic. The house is very clean although outside areas needed some attention. There is a lovely upstairs bedroom with bush views, and a comfortable large queen bed. The bathroom is roomy with super water pressure and plenty of hot water.

The property provides limited TV, a kitchenette, Wifi (patchy) but no laundry (owner very prompt to offer use of theirs). There are two decks, with a large table, umbrella and chairs on the lower deck near the spa pool and a good sized BBQ. This is a very pleasant area for drinks etc.

There are some cons, and whether these matter will depend on age, agility and personal preferences. The tree house is very cute with a small footprint and the three floors are accessed by a fairly steep spiral staircase (i.e. need to use handrail). This provides a spacious airy bedroom on the top floor, but means on the middle floor the living area is very tight for usable space (one chair effective sitting area; two narrow window seats more suitable for children; saloon table with box seats) and the bathroom by necessity is on the bottom level, separated by a curtain from a bedroom alcove which is just large enough to fit a double bed.

Noise was noticeable at times. The owners and their children are very quiet but this property is in a suburb with lots of young children who bounced on the trampoline and played in the garden adjacent for many hours at a time. This may not be an issue out of school holidays.

For a young fit couple, 2 flights of stairs to reach the bathroom would not be an issue but older or less agile couples should consider this when booking; also if two couples were sharing, the second bedroom lacks privacy as it is within an alcove adjacent to the bathroom.

Parking is limited (like most of Waiheke) on the road or if available, there is a gravel area several houses along. This property is very suitable however for guests without transport and taxis and buses are readily available on Waiheke.

Suggestions:
Deck outside living space would benefit with a small table and chairs and/or comfortable deck chairs; some extra towels would be helpful; paths and decks would benefit from water blasting / sweeping to remove bird excretia and fallen fruit.

Response from TheTreehouseWaiheke, Owner at The Treehouse
Responded 8 Feb 2017
We welcome all feedback however unfortunately feel you chose a property that was not really suitable for your agility & requirements i.e it seems you really needed a single story house with drive on access, I'm afraid that is not The Treehouse. You made your booking from the Bookabach website, our main booking site, and we try to be very clear in photos & descriptions how the property is set up this includes our unique spiral staircase which is one of the features that helped us win the Bookabach Best Quirky Bach 2016. Therefore we certainly know we are a cool, quirky little property and we are very clear that this might not suit everyone however we have hundreds of very happy guests hence we were also voted Bookabach Supreme Bach of the Year 2016. We receive so many positive reviews on the privacy and quietness of The Treehouse (again please see our Bookabach Guest Book) your stay was in absolute peak holiday season with Oneroa being a highly sought after area for holiday makers, kids bouncing on a trampoline is at least preferrable to young adults partying until 4am which is something we have never had from our lovely neighbours in 8 years so we are very fortunate really! We simply ask that guests choose a property wisely, one that will suit all their physical abilities and requirements and then they can provide a fair review
