New owners Warren and Juliearna have recently taken over The Gables, and are refurbishing it. This is done out of season, and what they have achieved so far is excellent. Warren is a really friendly guy, and the place is comfortable (but like most NZ B&Bs, lacks storage space for guests). What makes it kind of special is the "Muffin...

We arrived early wet and cold after an early ferry crossing to receive a warm welcome from Warren. The room was clean and very comfortable. There is a lovely lounge and dinning room. Excellent service, this is the place to stay if you want to treat your partner.

We arrived on an early flight into Picton and so I rang and asked if we could drop our luggage off before checking in and we were told that was fine. When we arrived at The Gables there was no response so I called the number on the door and I was told that Warren would soon be with us....

Our 8am Ferry Crossing was cancelled and the next option out was 2am. We showed up at the Gables at 5am, exhausted, and they were kind enough to bump us up to the cottage in the back, which was just so charming and comfortable. A small 1 bed and bath would be a perfect weeklong stay, but we only stayed...

This B&B is close to town centre restaurants and on walking distance to ferry terminal. Owners give good service and nice breakfast. They also have a cottage in back garden with more privacy, self service non cooked breakfast (ingredients provided) and no wifi coverage.

As others have noted, the Gables is a nice play to stay, especially if you like a comfortable, older home and friendly, helpful, chatty hosts. We were only there one night, but learned a lot from the hosts about Picton and the surrounding areas. Lovely breakfast (or, if you don’t want breakfast at 8 or 8:30 am, the hosts will...

"The Gables" is one of three delightful characters that make this a great place to stay. A comfortable old home with bright, sunny rooms - so nice to come back to!
