Blythcliffe is a superb, 160 yr old grand house, set in extensive, private grounds - right in the heart of the historic French settlement village of Akaroa. We are one of Akaroa's oldest and most loved heritage houses and have a Category 1 listing with Heritage New Zealand,Pouhere Tahonga. Blythcliffe is an easy, flat stroll to all of our excellent cafes, restaurants and swimming beach. You're also centrally located for trips further afield on Canterbury's stunning Banks Peninsular. We have three guest accommodations available: The Stables - a very spacious, extremely comfortable and completely private apartment, is adjacent to the main house with its own grape lined sunny courtyard. The Willow Room with ensuite and Rose Room with private bathroom are both in the main house. Included in all rates is the Blythcliffe Fresh Breakfast, served in our ground floor heritage dining room. Fresh and poached fruits, organic yoghurt, cereal, croissants and of course real coffee!

Leslie is a wonderful host, helpful, kind and charming, and suitably English. This place is a step back in time: stately home, decorated and furnished as such, I couldn't believe such a gem in NZ. We stayed in the cottage: wonderfully large room, with antique furniture, and yet

I don’t think I have enough words to describe how amazing our stay was at Blythcliffe. The house has a rich history and is so beautiful inside and out, especially the gardens. Each of the rooms are beautifully decorated and different to one another and the house was a short walk

It's wonderful - it would probably get eight stars or something. We stayed in the courtyard and the Wifi was a bit weak, that's it - the only thing I could find to moan about. Very obliging hosts: breakfast is communal and very nice, beds are firm, the place is beautiful
