Mt Vernon is a pretty secluded setting, on the side of the mountain but only a few minutes drive from the sea. Whilst the accommodation was nice and well laid out (we stayed in a cabin), it was of moderate expectation for New Zealand terms. The front room incredibly lovely with a double bed and kitchen/dining area overlooking the garden...

We stayed in the Lodge for friends 30th wedding anniversary. What a wonderful place for a gathering. Great rooms, kitchen, internal sunken fireplace, deck and grassy area for the kids or to play volleyball etc. Self catering with everything you could need in the kitchen. The managers were friendly and helpful. On site there are also cottages and cabins for...

We stayed at Mt Vernon Lodge for two nights . The room was very clean, beds comfortable. A bonus was the washing machine /dryer facilities. Room was spacious with a separate twin room. I would highly recommend a stay here staff very friendly. We enjoyed our stay very much.

Whilst the location is indeed very beautiful - a word of warning to those going there in the winter - take some ice skates. The decks of very dangerous once they have a bit of ice on them and inadequate lighting at night can make this a wee mine field as I found out when I took a tumble on...

A mid-winter holiday with snow and ice makes this a great place to stay if you’re willing to take a few risks. Although ice and snow are part of the experience, not enough has been done to minimize the risk of injury. The decks outside each cabin ice up, or become covered in snow, and need covering in an anti-slip...

This place was so nice, we stayed in one of the suites in the Lodge and the room was great. Our suite was warm and well set up with comfy beds and a lovely view of the harbor. Located on the edge of town so has a very peaceful atmosphere but still close enough to town that you could walk.

My hubby, myself & our daughter, Miss 5 wanted a weekend getaway. Unfortunately the weather turned against us for our whole time away. Fortunately we were made very warm and comfortable for our stay in the lodge. Plenty of wood provided & continually restocked helped us to keep the pit fire roaring. We thoroughly enjoyed our stayed snuggled down inside...

We stayed here for a night after finishing the Banks Peninsula track. It was a brilliant spot tucked away in the bush with a view over the township of Akaroa. We stayed in a one bedroom chalet and it was great - it even had a fireplace in our room. The staff were very obliging and we were made to feel...

Excellent accommodation with fabulous views. High standard of cleanliness with very good facilities for self catering. A short walk from the town which has a fantastic selection of restaurants, very helpful information centre and boat trips available straight from the wharf.

We stayed in a quad room in the lodge for one night. The great things about Mt Vernon are:- the hosts and staff, the amazing views, good showers, the excellent communal kitchen and outdoor seating/cooking areas and the close proximity to the purple peak track for hikes up the hill. The downsides:- it is a mammoth walk uphill from the...

“I'd strongly encourage staying in Maison -- it is great for one or two people. It also has better wifi access (which at times is spotty) than the Lodge, but one can always walk to the office if the signal is weak.”
