We enjoyed this small, well-hidden resort that provides first-class accommodation. Our cottage, Bhavana, was large, with a shower/toilet that was open to the very pleasant elements, and was surrounded by lush vegetation. We spent hours sitting on the veranda watching various species of birds, reading and dozing between excellent meals. We did make an effort and borrow two bicycles for an enjoyable ride around the local area. The pool is large, warm and both inviting and refreshing. Breakfasts were served in the small restaurant on the beach where we could watch the fishermen haul in their nets or simply listen to the waves crash on the beach – a beach that seems to stretch for miles in both directions and, whilst we were there, was almost completely deserted.

Other meals are served in the large restaurant where the food is equally delicious. All the staff are very attentive and made every effort to ensure that we lacked for nothing during our stay.

The only downside was that there were no tea or coffee making facilities in the room!

Dear Guest, We are absolutely delighted to know that you had a relaxing and enjoyable stay. As food generally attracts mosquitos etc, so to avoid the inconvenience to the guests we do not have the room service and tea and coffee facility in the cottage. Hoping to have you stay with us again. Best Regards, Aditi Sethi

Just got back from an amazing staycation at Neeleshwar Hermitage. To start with this property is absolutely rustic , true to Kerala traditions and takes pride in being a sustainable and eco friendly property.

The property is very beautifully landscaped , nestled against a beach backdrop and has some lovely cottages. The best part about these cottages are the open air
bathrooms and verandah which makes you feel like you are staying in a traditional Kerala home. All rooms are well equipped with all the necessities and there were toiletries (From Kama Ayurveda - Loved it!!!) and hair dryer as well available . So you don’t need to carry anything with you. They even provide herbal mosquito repellents. Isn’t that thoughtful? 😊

There is a lovely pool facing the beach which is perfect for kids and families to enjoy. But what sets this property apart from the rest in and around Neeleshwar/ Bekal is it’s access to the beach. It has an unblocked beach view from all parts of the property and a private access to the same. The beach itself is quite clean and makes for the perfect spot for holiday.

I specially enjoyed the Kerala Ayurvedic massage in Priya Spa and also the food at the restaurant was super delicious. The buffet breakfast had limited options but post covid it is understandable since there is not a large influx of travellers to cater for a full fledged buffet.

Now what is the key differentiator for any property to stand out is unarguably the staff. Starting with the warm welcome , wonderful linen shawls , special flower decoration in the room for my moms birthday and a lovely cake… Special mention to Sasi (Head of Operations) , Jayan ( Front office) , Sitara ( Spa therapist) and Surabhi ( Reservations head) and Yoga teacher ( Lovely Complimentary Group yoga ) for their unparalleled service and booking flexibility to ensure we are taken care of very well and don’t have to worry about anything. The kids were even treated to a complimentary lip smacking Oreo cheese cake as a lovely goodbye gesture . Huge shout out to all the staff… you guys were phenomenal!!!

We are already missing our stay and are sure to return while also highly recommending this property to our friends and family.

This small hotel next to the beach in Northern Kerala has all you need for a relaxing break. The hotel grounds are beautifully looked after; the individual cottages are very comfy; the infinity pool overlooks the beach and sea; there is a morning yoga session; an Ayurvedic spa and the most delicious freshly cooked food. Heavenly!

This was our family's 4th visit to Neeleshwar Hermitage & it lived up to its high expectations. It is 'The' place if you want to relax & get spoilt in this wonderful location by the Arabian Sea. We stayed 3 nights, the 1st time in Dec & the weather was ideal...not too hot. We were treated to a customary Christmas eve dinner with some live musicians, overlooking the sea. The food otherwise too was outstanding with mainly the local Kerala cuisine & other delicacies served in the beautifully built Annapurna restaurant. My son swears it's the best Kerala parota he's eaten. The rooms are asthetically built cottages some ocean facing & others garden facing. They are large & comfortable with an equally large open bathroom with a tub as a new addition. The beach is pretty secluded in the mornings & ideal to go for long walks. The ocean too was calm & lovely to swim in. The service staff needs to be applauded for their tireless efforts. The Gen Manager Jayan, OM Sasi, Chef Anish, Receptionist Rajitha along with Team Neeleshwar do a fabulous job. Had the pleasure of meeting the owner Altaf Chapri. Will go back when I need to de-stress.

This was our third stay & it didn’t disappoint! Our bungalow overlooking the beach was so well appointed complete with outdoor bathroom! The staff were charming & very welcoming. Breakfast is served by the beach under palm trees & this is the setting for locally sourced fish every evening. The beach is a long empty stretch of sand + ideal for relaxing walks with feet in the warm sea! We look forward to returning again next year!!

The moment I arrived at Neeleshwar, I knew I had found somewhere very special, somewhere I wouldn’t want to leave, somewhere I’d have to visit again.

I was lucky enough to stay for three nights (longer next time, I hope!) in a sea view cottage and everything about my stay was perfection.

This is luxury executed in a very low-key way. The design of the cottages is wonderful, spacious and oh so comfortable, and the bathrooms are off the scale gorgeous. Each cottage has a verandah, perfect to sit and watch the world go by. The swimming pool is huge (and without a hint of the smell of chlorine). The property is beside a fabulous beach, perfect for long walks. I loved yoga every morning followed by a delicious breakfast, feet in the sand. The food (especially the king fish) was delicious and all the staff were delightful and helpful.

I can’t speak for the nearby village or any of the excursions - other than strolling on the beach, I had no desire to leave the beautiful gardens, the poolside or my verandah.

I’m not sure how to rate eco credentials but Neeleshwar is plastic-free (sadly a rare occurrence in India).

Thank you for a heavenly stay; I can’t wait to return.

We can’t overstate what an incredible time we had during our five night stay at the hermitage. The location on a pristine and deserted beach among the coconuts and beautiful garden is idyllic. The bungalow with verandah and hammock superb. But what makes the hermitage a truly wonderful place to unwind are the fabulous staff. Each and every one of them with the most genuine smiles and so helpful always whilst also being unobtrusive. The food is absolutely divine. Although there are two restaurants we couldn’t tear ourselves away from the fish restaurant right on the beach. We even partook in a cooking lesson so chef could teach us a few dishes. The breakfast and complimentary afternoon tea were also delicious. Our biggest dilemma each day was how long to swim in the infinity pool versus the warm Arabian Sea, both minutes from our private bungalow. We did complimentary yoga every morning to the sounds of the waves and birds. It is testament to the wonderful ambience that the hotel has so many repeat customers and we certainly hope to come back and even try their sister resort in Kashmir. We landed here after a hectic five or so weeks of touring India so came to chill but there are plenty of half day or whole day trips out that the hotel are happy to arrange. Oh and we were also delighted with the two linen shirts and one cotton dress that their tailor made for us at very reasonable prices. Would highly recommend and although we are not in habit or ‘repeating’ ourselves on holiday we would certainly love to come back to the warm smiles and welcome of the Hermitage

My husband and I spent 5 blissful days at this wonderful resort. It was spectacular relaxing at an absolutely stunning location, right on a picture perfect, pristine beachfront.

The resort had 18 villas which gave you ample privacy and were extremely well appointed. What was immediately noticeable was the eye for details in terms of the amenities....fans in the open air bathrooms, ample wardrobe space, 2 luggage racks ( normally there is only one and the second bag goes on the floor) etc .

We took only one spa treatment which certainly met with our expectations.

Food was nice but we felt that it was a bit restrictive. Maybe one should consider including a few continental dishes on the menu.

In conclusion, the staff with their warmth, hospitality and attentiveness made our stay awesome.

We highly recommend Neeleshwar Hermitage for its sense of calm and serenity!

Set in a great location, it was great to mix relaxing by the pool/beach with other excursions offered by the hotel, I can recommend the plantation walk, very much off the beaten track and you'll potentially learn a lot.
The cottages are spacious and comfortable, the outside bathroom really works too.
The staff were quick to deliver anything you order, this included a handmade shirt being turned around in 4 hours !
The food has been "adapted" for tourist, but speak to the chef and he will spice it up for you !

This was our last stop after almost three weeks of a tour of South India. The cottage was lovely and bright with a great bathroom / meditation space.

Yoga (free 45 minute sessions in the morning) was gentle Hatha stretching with a delightful instructor.

The shop had some pleasant items for sale but the star of the show was the in-house tailor, Mr. Shanmukhan. I took a taxi to a sari shop only 15 minutes away and bought fantastic value silk, which the tailor made up in 24 hours into 2 dresses and 2 tops!

We went on a delightful backwater boat trip with a captain, guide and cook who took great care of us.

Food was excellent, especially the seafood and the lunchtime salads. Our only complaint was about drinks : there should be chilled drinks by the pool, and chilled fizzy water (made with a soda stream machine perhaps) in the restaurants.

The red flag was up so we didn't swim from the beach, but we walked and paddled.

The hotel should investigate OvoControl, a bird contraceptive, to limit their noisy population of crows.

We would thoroughly recommend the Hermitage and thank the charming staff for making us feel so welcome.

Hi They have a beer/wine licence only, so no spirits. They certainly have Kingfisher beer, and several Sula wines, and whilst we never used the bar, we did once enjoy a glass on our veranda before dinner, watching the sunset.
