We had a fantastic stay at the Barcelo. My kids absolutely loved the kids club. They made many friends there. The staff there were amazing, they really cared about the kids and planned lots of fun activities. The highlight for my boys was the waterpark. The one here and at the Colonial were superb. I really enjoyed the activities by the pool, such as yoga, aqua aerobics and zumba. Carlos and Natalie are amazing! They really enjoy their job and the make it so much fun for everyone there. The beach was amazing too, the water was so clear we could see tons of fish and turtles! My husband's favourite was the Japanese Restaurant Tokyo. We couldn't get a reservation so after trying once without any luck, we went early one day and got in. All restaurants were great but this was specially good, with all the entertainment and fantastic food. Overall we had a wonderful stay and I'd totally recommend.

Our reception was good with a cocktail welcome drink, however, we didn't get all the information we needed regarding basic things, such as hotel map or room location. I had to keep on asking about things. It was only after 3-4 days of our stay that I learned there were night shows at 9.30 every night!! And also after 3-4 days that I found out there were other activities at different areas of the resort we could participate in. Our check-out was extremely stressful and the worst part of our stay. After waiting on a long queue to check out, Josue Miranda told me I had to get my boys and husband as he needed to remove everyones bracelets!! We were not aware of this and we were already late!! So I had to run and get them from the restaurant and queue a long line again!! We asked Josue if it was possible to skip the line as our taxi was already outside (and the queue was twice the size at this time) but he said it wasn't possible, we had to queue again... anyway, I thought this was not the best way to end our holiday and staff could be more helpful.

This was our return visit to BarcelĂł Maya, previously stayed in Caribe, upgraded to Palace for no real reason other than I booked only three weeks in advance and it was the same $$$. Junior suite at the palace, little bit more room, bathroom seemed a bit nicer, a lot of little problems with the room but taken care of right away, just wish they would self- audit before guests arrival.
Clean grounds, lots of pools to choose from, no problem with check in, (emailed prior to ensure we received two doubles and not one King bed) as it was a family of three adults and a child.
Enjoyed the beach in front of Caribe/tropical as this was the most sandy, but spent a lot of time snorkeling off of the Palace. Buffets were good, lunch grills on the beach good, never had any problems finding something to eat. Enjoyed the dinners at the Palace exclusive Brazilian and French especially

Minor issues with the room included: one outlet not working, one lamp without bulb, power outage blip messed with our safe twice, TV. shutting down after about 45min. granddaughter really annoyed, ran out of toilet paper and Kleenex despite tipping housekeeping daily, bar was not always restocked, fixed that problem with a tip, AIR Conditioner not working for the last 24hrs of our stay, called and was told it was not specific to our room, not fixed on check out and nobody provided an update. All other problems either fixed promptly or we just ignored.
We had similar minor problems with the room itself on our prior visit.
Would have been nice if they had a new show, Michael Jackson seemed tired by end of set and gave the impression that he would rather be doing anything than one more show, Circus was good, Mexican Party was a cultural experience enjoyed, they did it up big for the super bowl night at all theatres, nice touch
Otherwise beautiful, clean, plenty to do for anyone, we will be back, highly recommend despite what may seem as a bit negative review, we are easy going and none of these items had a negative effect on our trip, no problems associated with anything outside the room and we spent very little time in it anyway, good far, far outweighed the bad.

My wife and I have been coming to the Barcelo Palace and Barcelo Colonial in the Mayan Riviera every year for 15 years. Sometimes twice a year. The food at the Palace is exceptional. The buffets have a very large range of choices and even if you arrive 5 minutes before closing all choices are still available. We especially like the selection of vegetables, fruit and breads. The two buffets (joined) each have four stations with four main choices, usually grilled meats, grilled fish, Mexican food, and pasta which are prepared while you wait, along with many pre-prepared items.
The rooms are spacious, relatively new, nicely decorated and clean.
The service in the restaurants and check-in has improved to be consistently friendly and informative. Ask for an extra desert, or some ice cream, or some Mexican salsa or an extra shot of coffee: No problem.
They are always trying to improve their service. This time the room checkin key was embedded in the wrist band so no need to carry a room key with us. That was really convenient.
We also go for the beach and sailing. The swimming at the Palace beach is excellent because it is in a little bay which is sheltered from the waves when it is windy by a reef. There are turtles there in the bay every day that are in the water with us. The other beaches at the Barcelo are not as sheltered from the wind so if you go to one of the other hotels in the resort complex, and you want to go for a swim, the calmest place is the Palace beach.

Loved everything about the resort. First off the resort with all the connecting Barcelo resorts is very large. We spent most of our time at the Maya side. Numerous pools, most pools were large with daytime activities, music, bingo, dancing, etc. The resort is well laid out, with pools not far from the main restaurants and beach. The beaches were white sand, very tropical with bamboo trees for shade if wanted. The water was calm mostly without rocks, (some areas do have rocks) but most do not. The resort has any number of activities and some shopping if you desire. Buffet restaurant were some of the best we've had, Specialty restaurants were top notch as well, service was very good. Our room was a standard room which was very large with a sitting area and balcony, (most rooms are off of the beach so we didn't bother to upgrade).
Our ride from the airport was about 45-50 minutes, we had private nonstop transportation, well worth the money, the resort is about 10-15 minutes south of Playa Del Carmen.

We stayed 14 days . Loved this hotel. Best experience in Mexico. Check in was fairly fast and staff was very accommodating. Room was easy to find if a fair distance to walk about a half a kilometer one way so we definitely got our exercise . We needed it because the food was amazing. The buffets were really good and was easy to find something to eat even if you were a picky eater which our family is not. Ate breakfast mostly at the Mirador as my son-in-law made friends with Oscar who always had our table waiting and made our breakfasts great. We had our lunch at the Coral Grill our waitress's Selene and Ana were great. The beach was beautiful and clean if somewhat rocky which most of the Mayan side is. We found our easy spot to get into the water and swam with fish and snorkelled with the Turtles which was a great experience. I liked that the Barcelo had no food place right on the beach as it kept the area clean and free of birds. Also they used reusable glasses and picked them up regularly which kept the beach are pristine. We ate at the al a cartes a number of times in my opinion the Brassiere was the best; loved our waiter Fernando. The food in this one was so good in our 14 day stay we ate here 3 times. The Rodizio was my grandsons favorite (meateater) and was also good. The Caribe was also very good. The only ones we tried off this resort was the Tokyo which we ate at twice and was also very good; and the Italian which none of us liked so much . Very good staff there but they need to adjust the menu. Although the bread was still very good and nobody tried the pasta which may have been okay. The rooms were lovely and big and we spent very little time in them just sleeping. Showers in the room very good. Air conditioning in my room was not working very well but didn't really affect us so never bothered to let the hotel know. One of the cleanest hotels i have been at and the staff always have and smile and a hello and work very hard maintaining this place as it is huge. Overall the best I've stayed in Mexico would definitely return to this hotel, really can't find anything negative to say.

We stayed in a junior suite in the Oaxaca building which is fair distance from the lobby, but discovered close to one of the internal double decker bus stops. The walk is fine even with our little ones who normally complain. The grounds are beautiful with shaded areas and sometimes we’d see birds and lizards which make it entertaining.
Pools galore and someone is always ready to give you a water bottle or drink. Easy to secure or find lounge chairs and hammocks in shaded or non shaded areas. Rooms and bathrooms throughout the resort is always clean. Fitness room is basic and good, again with a water bottle ready at each machine.
The giftshop was good to get anything you might have forgotten. Laura was very friendly and personable whenever we went there (we were in a hunt for Gatorade). She was fun to talk to generally.
Barcy Club was great. Our kids are 7, 9 and 11 years old and Karla, Fabiola and the entire staff were awesome. Some of the activities were too young for our 11 year old, but nonetheless some activities were great just to get the kids out of the afternoon sun. Our youngest son’s skin is sensitive under the sun so he looked forward to all the Barcy games (indoor and outdoor) and prizes and was always asking what the schedule was the next day. Karla gave us some good tips on where we should take the kids on excursions.
Food in buffets are just that, food in buffets - quality for mass quantity. We ate lunches at the coral grill and also tried the grill at the hotel next door and it was quieter and less hectic. Specialty dining is always a must to end of the day and to have some decent quality family time. The restaurants always had good service and generally felt cleaner and tasted great. They catered to our son’s allergy and when we requested just plain rice and bread at Rodizo when he was sick they served that to him as well.

Check in was supposed to be at 3pm. We ended up finally checking in at 7pm. Waste of the first night. The reason for late check in was because the room they gave us was moldy,even the sheets were moist because of the mold. The check-in counter responded to this issue by telling us that if we find another room it will be two single beds put together. I don't think anyone would feel they are staying at a five star resort sleeping on two single beds that separate in the middle. If I payed for a king, that's what I should get, I have heard of upgrading guests due to insufficient resources not downgrading them. Finally they found us a room that had no mold,at the very last inch of the resort, furthest away from the lobby, meanwhile all the rooms closest to the lobby were empty, but we had to pay extra for them. They should have upgraded us the moment they sent us to 2 moldy rooms.
Buffet had amazing food. However staff never seemed to be happy, even while receiving tips. There was never a time where my coffee was served at the table, and if I asked for milk that I got the milk without having to go hunt them down. By the end of the week I just had my coffee black. This is just to say the very least of their hospitality. Don't bother with the "a la carte" with this resort, it was un edible. On a positive note, the food at the buffet was amazing.
In general,it is a beautiful resort, many things to do, and if you are not bothered by service or quality of food at the restaurants, you might enjoy this visit. In my opinion however, they do not come close to a five star rating. They are 3 stars (average) at most.

We enjoy our stay but service and everything else is going down hill since the new all adult resort is open. Our room snack fridge was never refill, constantly have to call customer service to have them come and fill it, missing all the personal hygiene in the bathroom. Service at the buffet is super slow, asking for a cup of ice and didnt get it until 10mins later. As a long term customer this might be our last year here at the resort since the first 4 days we couldn't get a reservation for restaurant and was not please with service this year.

the fridge was always filled with water bottles,apple juice,sodas and snacks. room service was great. always clean, sheets,clean towels,shampoo and toilet paper.
There was AC working 100% always cool they also brought a bottle of shampagne to the room with two glasses for couples. we had a great time, my wife was so happy she wants to go back very soon.
Luis Wiex And Ramon Salazar were the bartenders they were super friendly and hard working gentlemen.
Fitness trainers Nataly and Marlon were super nice always energetic,friendly We enjoy the sports classes with them. We can't wait to go back.

I want to start by saying the the restaurant and bar-tending staff are amazing and so friendly. but if you need the services of anyone else (who doesn't typically get tips) you won't get too much out of them. All the amenities they speak of here are spread across 5 resorts. Everywhere you go you have to walk and walk and walk. There is a double decker bus out front on the road that is supposed to run every 15 minutes, at night, not true. they really need to have long golf carts that shuttle you around INSIDE the resort. There is no entertainment in the lobby, only in a theatre. We never saw 1 mariache band. No fun games organized around the pool, only exercise in the pool. Also, the bar doesn't open until noon, I don't care, but many people do. Rooms and food were amazing, A/C works great, too great, you have to turn it off at night cause it's like a meat locker in your room. Also, for some unknown reason, they had a rubber sheet protector under our sheets, made us sweat all night so we had to sleep on towels. you are guaranteed a la carts, good luck. For some stupid reason, you have to haul your ass all the way to the lobby to book them and we got like 9:30 at night, why can't you call from your phone. Nope, you gotta go there, a deterent on purpose I believe. If you are going to play beach volleyball, wear shoes, you will destroy your feet. evening entertainment is only an hour long. when we arrived on our first night it was 1:30 am and we were all starving, we were told we can get complimentary room service for that night along. What a joke, we called and it rang and rang and they would pick up and hang up on us. those who got it, waited an hour for it. we read when booking that there was free wifi in the lobby (like most resorts) well no, it's at the mall, you have to take the shuttle to it and it's only from 10 to 5. Every room has a router, just give us the internet for goodness sakes, we paid good money. we are looking to take our whole family (all 25 of us) for our 1st anniversary this October, Adults only I would go to the Sian Kaan but we have kids so may go to the Grand Serenis, both those places are amazing. Barcelo is good too but not worth the money,

We got a crib for our 2 year old grandson - it was clean and sturdy. We left our pack n play at home and are perfectly happy (as is our grandson)
Yes at the Maya Palace we did but there seemed to be spotty connection in some areas eg restaurants at the far end. Sometimes the internet seemed to be down for an hour in the afternoon. For the most part it was fine.
There are bars throughout the property, mostly in the hotel lobbies and around the pools..there is no specific coffee shop.
