Muthu Keekorok Lodge garners appreciation for its amenities like the Hippo Bar and the diverse buffet, and the service is often described as attentive and warm. Nestled close to the Masai Mara's wildlife, the lodge's location is a highlight for guests seeking a genuine safari experience. While the atmosphere exudes local charm with cultural performances, some visitors feel the decor could be refreshed. Opinions on the rooms are mixed, with their charm acknowledged but updates suggested. Cleanliness generally meets guests' expectations, but the value proposition receives a varied response.

My sisters & I stayed at the Keekorok lodge in October 2019 for four nights for my 50th birthday. I have to say that the staffs shout out to Milton, Jane (on work placement) who was very attentive and the manager Judy who all made our stay comfortable enjoyable, especially on my birthday when I was present with a delicious cake and was sang too. The restaurant food was plentiful with a good variety and tasty, veg and non veg but with an Asian influence they also provide a lunch box when on game drive which had a large assortment of fruits, sandwich, boiled egg, cake drinks.
Rooms- We stayed in the premium room that was very comfortable, clean, and spacious and decorated with all thing African as you would expect. The room was not far from the hippo pool which I could hear splashing and grunting from time to time which did not disturb my sleep just added to the experience. The hot water in the shower had to be run for 10 minutes before it got hot but that was not a problem given where we were and it was clearly stated outside of on the shower wall, mosquitoes nets was also draped across the bed with a turn down service at night and tea and coffee provided. Due to animals roaming on the land you had to be escorted to your room at night.

The grounds was also amply with a pool, viewing deck over looking the hippo pool were you could buy some beverages whilst watching the hippos, masai women were also on the ground selling their arts and craft, but there is a Masai village just outside the reserve, so if you have the time I would recommend going.

Getting There – there is an airstrip on the Masai mara, but you are limited to the amount of luggage you can take on board, for this reason we went by road with Right Choice Tours and safari our driver was John who was clearly very experience and knew the reserve like the back of his hands. We saw all the big five and two kills all in one day, Amazing, another day we witness the migration of wilder beast and elephant to the Serengeti. The drive took around 4.5 hours we stopped several times for comfort break, money exchange and lunch and we also visited the Masai Village, and admired the beautiful landscape on route. Finally this gave us the chance to get to know our Safari driver John who picked us up from our hotel in Nairobi stayed with us for the duration of our stay.

I would definitely return to the keekorok lodge and thank you for the most memorable stay/holiday.

I was at Keekorok Lodge for 3-nights and 4 days and an amazing experience. The staff were all so friendly and welcoming. Since I was traveling alone, they really went out of their way to chat with me and ensure I was doing alright. My driver who took me out on two game drives a day was so good. Everyone really put an effort to ensure their guests were well taken care of and everyone was very professional. The food selection was also awesome. There’s just no way you could complain about the food being served there. There was great variety. One night the chefs grilled steak and chicken and I have to tell you that was one of the best steaks I have eaten. My overall experience was just really good.

We visited Mara in Nov 2018 and stayed in Keekorok Lodge. The best part of this hotel is that it is right in the middle of the forest, so you are well surrounded by flora and fauna. It is not an uncommon sight for you to find a few zebras prancing around your room. The food is delicious with plenty of Indian vegetarian options too. The host at the dinner, Judy is a warm person and would go deeper lengths to keep your dinner and breakfast satisfying. I very much look forward to visit again and stay in Keekorok.

From the small, cramped, musky rooms to the below-par buffet and the indifferent service, nothing about this was 5-star.

The food variety and quality were both unmemorable. The first room we checked in, we could not even walk around our bed, that's how tiny it was. When we asked to change rooms, the front desk charged an extra $200 per night to move into their slightly larger room.

The mosquito nets in our bedroom was not sealed properly and was decayed in certain places. It was an overall miserable experience.

Please do not get tricked by your travel booking agency into paying 5-star prices for this hotel. You will most certainly be better off at other lodges.

We had our trip to Masai Mara and planned to have our Christmas at Keekorok lodge with my guest, the worst thing I noticed at Keekorok lodge was the guide accommodations. This lodge does not consider driver guide as their clients too. They only look at the guest that driver bring at the lodge, for sure driver guide picks the guest from Nairobi airport and bring them to your lodge and offer shared room, with smelly toilets, very old mattresses and bed sheet. And driver is not allowed to eat with the guest. Driver guide are being given separate dining room such that the guest don’t see what they eat.

My client insisted that she want to have meal with me, and we had a breakfast on the next day, and I was charged $30 just for breakfast, and this was the same price for our lunch at Serena Mara lodge.

We had booked for first two night with the plan of extending more night and my clients had issue with her door lock, later they gave her next room and there were loud music played over the night in the middle of the park, when the electricity went off and the generator was behind her room and that was horrible night.

We had to canceled our program and we requested for refund, unfortunately when you book through booking.com your refund will not be given back by Keekorok lodge.

I requested the manager if he can allow me to upgrade my stay in their cottages and I would top up as East African citizen, the answer was NO. Even the Kenyan pay the same amount as Mzungu pays. And I had no option, I had to drive 16 kilometers to Sekanani gate for accommodations.

On our third visit to Keekorok we had very high expectations which were not unfounded. The staff are wonderful, with particular note, Judy, the restaurant manager. She greeted us like old friends and was always happy to chat. Judy was so wonderful that she even arranged for a cake and song from the restaurant staff for us to say goodbye and welcome back, which was a wonderful touch. Thank you Judy for your wonderful personal touches such as arranging for egg mayonnaise salad for my mother when she happened to mention she liked it. Also Milton, our waiter was incredibly efficient and friendly. Nothing was ever too much trouble.
Our room was overlooking the lawns and while we heard the hippo at night we never did see it but it was still a magical experience. The room did show some signs of wear and tear but the lodge is undergoing some upgrading so I imagine this will be fixed in due course.
The lodge is not fenced so animals can come in which is charming, unfortunately we didn’t get to see this this time around. However the location is wonderful and the sounds of the Mara at night are evocative of a bygone age. I look forward to my next visit to Kenya and to this lodge.

The Keekerok Lodge was everything I remember and more,

The decor was amazing in the main building and the addition of the hippo pond was a bones. The food was good and the staff friendly and helpful.

However, I did have one dissapointment. Our chalet had not been cleaned properly; the net around our bed was dirty and had what looked like blood stains on it. The curtains were not hooked up properly and were hanging down in several places and the floor was filthy. I was not expecting luxury, or the standard I had experienced when it was newly built, some 38 years ago, but basic cleanliness was expected. I spoke to one of the housekeepers/staff about these issues on the first night and he assured me they would be rectified by the next day upon our return from the game drive, but nothing had been done. We were so tired that evening however, we couldn't be bothered to take it further. Had we been staying longer than 2 nights, we would have complained to the management and insisted on being moved. I will be stating all of this on trip advisor, as it should be addressed.

I wouldn't recommend the Keekerok Lodge for long stay and would suggest to future customers that they insist that chalets be adequately cleaned before accepting the key.

My brother and I stayed here whilst on an organised safari for 2 nights. We stayed in a twin room. The room was adequately equipped with safe, fridge, mosquito nets and a shower room with a powerful shower. The room could do with some modernisation, but it was clean and well kept.

The food on offer at each service was buffet, which caters for the different nationalities that attend. The food was good, varied and plentiful. It sometimes could have been hotter but that might be due to when we ate.

The swimming pool was good and great to relax around between game drives. The only downside were the flies, but not much can be done about them.

The location is great, just a few minutes into a game drive we saw a leopard. In the evening you have to be escorted to your room due to the wildlife that can get into the hotel grounds. This included zebra outside our room.

The staff are the best asset. Judy in particular made a point of remembering our names and ensuring we were well looked after. Everyone was very friendly and accommodating.

Dear Guest, Thank you for choosing to stay with us during your safari adventure! We're glad to hear that you found your twin room adequately equipped and well kept, despite the need for some modernization. We appreciate your feedback on the buffet-style food, and we're pleased that you found it to be good, varied, and plentiful. We'll take note of your comment about the temperature and work towards improving that aspect. It's wonderful to know that you enjoyed the swimming pool for relaxation between game drives, although we apologize for the flies. We understand the inconvenience they can cause and will continue to explore ways to mitigate their presence. We're delighted that you had an exciting wildlife encounter with a leopard just minutes into your game drive! Our location is indeed a great advantage for spotting wildlife. Additionally, we appreciate your understanding of the precautionary measures we take in escorting guests to their rooms to ensure their safety in the presence of wildlife. Lastly, we're thrilled that our staff, especially Judy, made a positive impression on you with their friendly and accommodating service. We'll pass along your appreciation to her and the rest of the team. Thank you once again for sharing your experience, and we hope to welcome you back in the future for another memorable safari stay! Warm Regards, Sanjeev Kumar General Manager

We last visited Keekorok in 2017, following a previous stay when we fell in love with it. The location is unique and stunning. However, I was unable to get the room we had stayed in previously as it had apparently been upgraded and Sun Africa wanted extra money for it. The room we were allocated was all right but needed a lot of TLC to bring it up to a good standard. The public areas are still very attractive but, overall, the lodge is definitely not as good as it used to be when I think it was run by Wilderness Lodges.
Apart from the wonderful location and the beautifully kept gardens, the attentive and hardworking staff are the best asset of Keekorok Lodge. The "star of the show" is Judy, the restaurant manager, who greeted and treated us like old and valued friends. She has apparently been at the lodge for 18 years so her talents are evidently appreciated by the management. Nothing was too much trouble for her and we were overwhelmed when presented with an iced "come back soon cake", complete with candles, accompanied by the kitchen and restaurant staff who surrounded us at our table to sing "Hakuna Matata". Such a lovely thought and quite emotional!
Sadly, the food was disappointing and not the quality and variety we fondly remembered from previous visits. Not enough choice of cold food in the heat of the day and the hot dishes were heavily influenced by Asian food every day. African food is delicious so why not offer it? Also, the drinks were expensive in comparison to other lodges, for example 450 KS for a bottle of water compared to 300 or 250 KS elsewhere.
We are not a wealthy family so we look forward to the trips we can make to Kenya with great anticipation and excitement. The saying goes that you should not revisit a place as you risk being disappointed and, sadly, this has been true this time. We really hope that Keekorok can again reach the standards that led to our falling in love with it in 2007.

Visited Keekorok Lodge and had an awesome time. Log cabin style rooms, great WiFi, no Tv's. You are truly there to unwind and enjoy the great outdoors. My room had two twin beds side by side and was comfy. Mosquito net was full size. Bathroom had shower/tub combo. Room had a small refrigerator and small bottles of Alcohol for Purchase. Keekorok is right in the middle of the Masai Mara and is the oldest Lodge I Believe in the Mara. I thought it was great and I was more comfortable in the Log cabin than a tent. There is no security gate around the property so you can not wonder outside alone after night or you will be some animals dinner. The dining options where plenty and very good all day. I did a 3 day 2 night Safari Game drive, which was plenty. Come and be ready to be one with nature and leave the fancy stuff at home.. just for F.y.i I'd take snacks and I reusable water bottle and toliet paper for you full day game Drive. You can leave Lodge at 8am and return at 4pm or later. The hotel will prepare you a box lunch with small juice box and bottle water. There are no bathrooms in the national reserve, so behind a bush it is... just something you never think about. Overall awesome experience and staff was great
