Location is excellent - just a few mins walk to the cathedral/szecheyni ter.
The hotel room was very cramped. There was no space to walk, one had to crabwalk from one end of the room to another as the beds was very near the desk. The ' bedsheets' were too short for the mattresses, and the pillows were in fact cushions with no pillow cases on.
The next morning, to our horror, we found that the bread served was mouldy. Some unsuspecting guest at the nearby table had made a sandwich of the bread and was eating it. When the grumpy waiter was informed, he merely shrugged. The following day, the omelette with ham and the omelette with mushroom was served half cooked with bits of egg white still runny and transparent.
On the positive side, the reception staff was friendly and the accomodation reasonably priced. We felt attention needs to be paid to hygiene on the food and accomodation front.
+ Location is good, 5-10 minutes walk to historic places
+ Staff are friendly and helpful
+ Free parking (on-street or closed parking lot)
+ Free wifi (we had strong signal, good speed, may vary with rooms)
+ Food was great (breakfast is nice, also half-board is a good value)
+ Double bed is really double, not just two singles pushed together.
+ Rooms have AC (did not need it though)
+ Everything really clean
o Flat screen tv (but do not expect many international channels)
o Room had refrigerator (but it is not a minibar)
o Bathtub not suitable for taking shower (no cabin, water splashes everywhere; shower folks avoid tub bathrooms)
- Room was sort of small (but still perfectly acceptable)
- Our room (just off the main staircase) was rather noisy. (Courtyard rooms are probably quieter.)
- No credit cards are accepted.
All in all, the accommodation was about average but the food and the staff were great. The rate was very affordable and competitive. I recommend this hotel, just be sure to ask for a quiet room and bring cash.
Given room 7. Clean bathroom and comfortable room. Overlooks the Barbican and on the front side. If you're sensitive to street noise, you may want a room in the back. We weren't bothered. No elevators here, FYI. Hair dryer and liquid soap in bathroom are only amenities.
Small private secured parking lot behind the hotel (you'll get a remote for the gate) or there' street parking available.
You can't beat this for location and price.
"Ask for room on the ground or first floor, and avoid rooms on the front side because of the pub across the hotel."Read full review
