The Kalmar is a family owned B&B on a quiet street behind the Gellert hotel. It is an easy walk to public transportation and the river. This wonderful old house sits on around a acre of private land. The rooms are large - some are quite large and have large balconies. Bathrooms are very clean and nice (No soap/shampoo so...

Eszter and her husband have renovated a hundred year old mansion and now run it together as a luxurious B+B. The location behind the Gellert Hotel is very convenient and like many other trippers we loved the friendly atmosphere, the beautiful furniture ,the splendid view over the Danube river and the delicious breakfast including home made salami made by Eszter, shusband....

We booked off the internet and on arrival were disapointed that the rooms did not match the pictures. The host Ester offered us two rooms one in basement and a more expensive room ( only 15 euros more!) we were not shown any other double rooms at the price we had booked. We took the cheaper room. At breakfast next...

Kalmár is special to me, because I had heard about it word of mouth....went to talk to Eszter.....and it was like being welcomed by family.....turned out she knew my great-uncle who lived around the corner......and "being there" was like being at my (Hungarian) Grandmother's house in Sydney, in a Hungary that is starting more and more to resemble the proud,...

The Good The room off of the eating area is quite large, with an oversized granite tiled bathroom. The owner was extraordinarily helpful with advice and arrangements. The Bad The room has very little ventilation, and gets quite warm, even in Spring. If you do chance the bugs and open windows, the noise from the nearby hotel is quite loud...

This hotel is wonderful, it's very individual and characteristic although you probably won't like it if you are used to large chain hotels. We stayed in a 'studio' on the top floor for 95 euro a night, a large room with very large bathroom and shower. Aircon and a fridge too. Breakfast was fine and we liked the communal table...

I stayed here in 2006. The rooms were old fashioned, had a strange aroma but nevertheless were clean. The bathroom was very small and not up to the standard required in a three star hotel. I cannot see how this establishment was granted three stars. The breakfasts were very basic with only a single communal table, almost non existent choice...

We stayed at Kalmar with our 1 1/2 year old daughter & it is absolutely the best place. The owners were very friendly and the location is great. They even let us use their kitchen to warm-up the milk, cook food for our daughter, use their refrigerator & washing machine! Our daughter was the star attraction and everyone, including the...

The Kalmar Pension is located just behind the famous Gellert Hotel and Spa in Pest. It is a 5 minute walk to the Danube and the City Center. I stayed in the suite - a mammoth 2 rooms with an adjoining wintergarten and balcony. The view of the Gellert was excellent. The price was $105 per nite, for two, including...

Thank you to the Kalmars for their hospitality, from Eva and her two Canadian daughters. It was like our home away from home. Our apartment was clean, comfortable, elegant, and safe. It was a wonderful week (from the end of June until early July)

Staying in Gellert Hill

Neighbourhood Profile
Gellert Hill
If you want to treat your camera to some amazing scenery, Gellért Hill is a must on your itinerary. A funicular journey from the Chain Bridge along the hillsides provides a fast connection between Buda and Pest, hoisting visitors to panoramic vistas. Once on top of the hill, you’ll find the Citadel dominate the landscape with its imposing 19th century construction, a site that’s hard to keep your eyes on without being distracted by the phenomenal view over the Danube and the eight bridges crossing. Once on Gellért Hill however, one mustn’t miss the famous Gellért Baths. Budapest is renown for its thermal waters and its baths, and the Gellért Baths are housed in an impressive art nouveau structure. Its interior design, with its many mosaics, recalls the preceding relationships the city has had with healing springs and saunas, traditionally used within this neighborhood since the Ottoman Empire.
