We've just returned from 4 nights in a superior room in the Corinthia Hotel. We'd read the reviews over the past few months and here's our suggestions. Book a package which includes the marvellous breakfast. Only the Krasnapolsky Hotel in Amsterdam comes close to the rage of hot and cold food on offer, all topped off with delicious sparkling wine... My husband and I have just got back from a 3 night stay at this wonderful hotel. I simply cannot fault it in anyway. Just returned from 3 night stay at Corinthia, Budapest. From the minute you walk in the door you are blown away by the decor and and very impressive lobby. As soon as you will pass the front door, you will be absolutely amazed by the grandeur of the hotel worthy of a palace. I had a wonderful stay for a very good prize. The Art Deco Spa from 1886 has been recently refurbished with all equipments you need (15-metre pool, jacuzzi, sauna, hammam). Although a bit expansive the breakfast... More

The original name was Grand Hotel Royal, everyone in town still refer it as the "Royal". A grand hotel with deep Hungarian history, even have a book detailing the Royal history in every room. The hotel and rooms are nicely remodeled by the Corinthia Croup, although there signs of wear and tear after 10 years. Highly recommend visiting the Corinthia... More

This hotel is stunning! The detailing, cleanliness and overall presentation of this historic hotel is very appealing. Arriving in the lobby is a spectacular sight - the grand staircase and shiny floor with statues flanking the sides. Staying in District VII / Jewish Quarter

Neighbourhood Profile
District VII / Jewish Quarter
District VII is the very heart of Budapest and houses the city’s Jewish Quarter. Its streets are lively and colorful, its buildings narrate different histories in an assortment of architectural styles, and its cafes and bars are frequented and loved by the enthusiastic crowds. Grand and magnificent, the striking star of the district is the Great Synagogue, the largest in Europe and one of the biggest in the world. Distinctly Moorish in style, crowned by the twin onion shaped domes, the Synagogue is the very emblem of District VII and one of the main attractions in the capital.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
First opened in 1896 as the Grand Hotel Royal; a hub for the elite of nineteenth century society, and painstakingly restored to its original glory some hundred years later, the Corinthia Budapest – located in the heart of the city - brings together classic hotel opulence with the finest five-star luxury of modern times. While the gracious frontage, marble floors, sweeping staircase and breathtaking, six-story Atrium preserved from the original building offer glorious hints of a bygone age, the levels of comfort and convenience are all reassuringly up to date.A particular feature is the hotel’s original Royal Spa centre, with 15-metre pool, now extensively refurbished by the current owners to reflect the very best in 21st-century spa luxury while retaining the grandeur of the past. Without doubt the finest hotel in Budapest. Built in classic French Renaissance style, the Grand Royal became a beacon of luxury in the days of Emperor Franz Joseph 1. Designed as a centrepiece of Hungary’s celebrations to mark its first thousand years, the hotel’s grand-style architecture and unrivaled guest facilities were seen as state-of the art for the times. Much of the building was destroyed in the 1956 Hungarian Revolution and despite re-opening in more modest form in the 1960’s, the Grand Royal remained a shadow of its former self until the 1990’s; when new owners Corinthia Hotels gave the green light for an extensive restoration project that would retain the best of the old, while sensitively adding the new. Once restored to its original splendour, the newly named Corinthia Hotel Budapest re-opened its doors, as a five-star luxury property, in 2003. ... more   less
