I really don't think it can be call "hotel" . It is not more than cheap motel. So many stairs just to reach the elevator. The stairway was dirty and broken. Poor loby. Noisy rooms. We cancled the second night and move to mercure Budapest city center which is in even better location, for almost the same price (10 euro...

Dear Valued Guest ’smadarl65’, Thank you for your visit at City Hotel Mátyás and also for sharing your opinion to Tripadvisor users. As you might read in other reviews and could experience it the hotel operates as a part of a historical building. The lobby area and all rooms with its corridors are belong to the hotel but there are...

Broken concrete steps to reach the reception. Check in was quick and easy, told how to find room but not shown. Room - 57 on the ground floor. A lot smaller than it looked on the pictures and darker but this may have been because it is surrounded by tall buildings outside. Room window faced the small side road to...

Comfortable and safe place to stay. Might be a bit noisy being located next to the main street. Location is great, close to river Danube, good spot for exploring most of the sites of Budapest city centre.

Great location. in the middle of vaci utca, near Elizabeth bridgeץ Room was small and stinking from cigarettes (although no smoking is allowed). Elevator was small and smelly from grease. sometimes people were making loud noise in the middle of the night or early in the morning. Service was nice and polite. Breakfast is no more than OK.

I was bit apprehensive about our stay having read some of the reviews. Honestly the hotel is in a great location for sightseeing but our view from the room was not very exciting. The layout I agree is a little odd, lots of stairs and corridors. Breakfast was a typically Hungarian affair, adequate but again nothing exciting. The boiled eggs...

Centrally located very close to the Elizabeth bridge which is a very busy road into Pest. The room allocated to us was spacious and adequate for our needs with a very good shower. The double glazed windows do not keep out the noise from the volume of traffic that passes close by and effects sleeping. Most but not all staff...

Hotel was excellent for our whistle top tour of Budapest. We were greeted by a very helpful receptionist who let us have access to one of our rooms early. The room was very clean, warm and good value for money. I would recommend this hotel as it is located a stone throw from the river Danube and close to the...

We spent here a weekend with my husband. The staff was very friendly and helpful, we had a lot of help from them. The hotel is not a new one, but we found it cosy and absolutely clean. We found an excellent price for the weekend, so we are very happy with this choice.

We had room 261 which was a smoking room, room ok just needs updating. Breakfast was ok cereal ham cheese and breads....

Staying in District V / Inner City

Neighbourhood Profile
District V / Inner City
Discover the Inner City along the banks of the Danube, with its fashionable shops and iconic buildings. The Inner-City Parish Church and St. Stephen’s Basilica stand out as two of the finest examples of architecture in the area. If you are still hunting for more historical treats, then the ruins of the medieval city walls on Kecskeméti Utca are a must-visit while the Soviet War Memorial is also worthy of attention and relevant to Hungary’s more recent history. If shopping is on your itinerary, then be prepared: the market squares in this area are an absolute delight, particularly during the Christmas period, but even throughout the year you’ll find the latest trends in the shops on Vaci Utca.
