The Carlton was easy to access, a nice and peaceful, reasonably-priced hotel on Buda's side. The room was quite small but nice and comfortable. Breakfast was good, too! Helpful staff; although English skills varied...Although the hotel doesn't have a restaurant, there are several great restaurants within walking distance. I can warmly recommend this to anyone visiting Budapest.

This hotel is in a great central location for all the main places to visit in Budapest. It is in a quiet area of the city and very near the chain bridge and funicular up to the old part of Buda. The staff are very helpful and breakfast is OK a typical continental buffet style where you can eat as...

This hotel was fine as far as the facilities and its proximity to the Castle District, but unfortunately my family of six had an issue during our 3 days here that completely ruined the stay for us. The one member of our family who was African-American was subjected to a very unpleasant experience. Whenever he happened to come back to...

The breakfast is good with a good selection of fresh fruit, hot food, cereals & different choices of breads. Overall this is a great place to stay whilst you enjoy your sightseeing round a wonderful city.

Checked in for three nights, having booked a summer deal which entitled me to a 72 hour travel pass (very, very useful). The receptionist took my details, but didn't offer any advice or a map. I asked for this the next morning, when I got my pass. Think the welcome could be improved. As others have noted, the rooms and...

We stayed here for 4 nights. Fantastic location on the Buda side! Can't say that enough. Hotel was nice and clean. Breakfast was very good. The restaurant/bar next door was excellent!! Double rooms had 2 twins pushed together to make a king, which is quite common in some European hotels. The staff was very nice and attentive, even fixing a...

Staying in District I / Buda

Neighbourhood Profile
District I / Buda
The historical center to a city with a multifarious and intricate past, Buda has some of the most outstanding buildings in Europe and an enviable natural landscape with stunning views onto the Danube. Centered around the Royal Palace, it provides a glimpse into the golden years of the Austro-Hungarian empire and the lives led by the aristocracy at the time. Matthias Church, beside the palace, hosted many events attended by the royal family and was the chosen place for the coronation of Franz Josef, one of the Hungarian Habsburg kings. Having admired the palace and the church, a visit to Buda will be unforgettable by the stunning and memorable panorama over Pest offered by the seven towered Fishermen’s Bastion.
