We booked a table for Sunday lunch at the Stable Arms a day in advance but when we arrived the lady had no knowledge of our booking. After ordering our meals we waited one hour which was difficult with 2 hungry young children in our group. The lady serving us acknowledged the long wait and apologised but nothing more than...

Great to be back at the Beresford Arms, this time to break the journey on a trip south. It's so handy for the A1, but a world away in a lovely village with another genuine welcome. Tasty meal at night and hearty breakfast to set us on our way again. We were too tired to enjoy the live music that...

I stayed here for the weekend with a group of friends. Brilliant hotel, lovely food, friendly staff. Plenty to do nearby, just ask the staff! We played footgolf for the first time and really enjoyed it, then had a go a clay pidgeon shooting. Highly recommended.

We had a night here for a weekend in the area. Lovely friendly pub in a pretty village. Nice rooms - we slept so well! - and great food. Perfect location for us - near Belsay Hall, and also near Hadrian's Wall. Recommended!

We stayed here overnight as it was convenient for our visit the next day. The hotel had only been in new hands for a couple of weeks so hard to say what it is going to be like in their hands. Rooms are in a separate annex so away from the noise of the pub. They are comfortable and got...

Having enjoyed a bracing and scenic walk at Rothley Crags my children [they're adults] and I arrived at the Beresford Arms. I'd phoned the day before, speaking to the landlord, asking if lunch would be available the following day [New Years Day]. I explained that I couldn't book, not knowing what our plans would be. He said that he would...

Had a great night at the Stables for an anniversary meal. Lovely choice of food and very friendly staff. Would recommend. The atmosphere was relaxed and the owner was very informed. I can recommend the king prawns and the sweets are a good size to share.
