Camp may be good or bad but the caretaker (one who looks after the booking, if I am correct Manoj Bisht is his name) there is utterly pathetic, unprofessional and rude. Despite booking the place in advance through booking.com, he didn’t honour our booking and gave it to someone else may be for more money and left us stranded in the middle of night that too after 9 hour long journey. Avoid this place if you could, would save you from ruining your vacation. In the name of camp, it’s a den of cheaters.
We’re no strangers to Nathuakhan, having travelled to this small and peaceful village in Uttarakhand many many times in the last three years. We’ve made friends here — both those from Delhi and with some locals as well. It almost feels like home now! We made yet another trip to that area last week and decided to stay at Kumaon Adventure Roadies Camp this time. We took the unmetalled road that branched off the main road as instructed. The climb was pretty steep and we didn’t dare to take our car further up than the next bend. We were warmly welcomed by the smiling duo who look after the camp so well—Pankaj and Hemant. The climb from that point to the camp took its toll on our inactive, city-bred bodies and we were huffing and puffing by the time we reached the gates! By the time we left though, our bodies had got used to it. A line of tents greeted us and after the initial formalities were over, we entered out tent and...what a pleasant surprise it was! Cheerful and cosy, the tent seemed to extend its warm hospitality and we immediately felt at home. The attached bathroom was an added joy as we hadn’t known quite what to expect. Of course, the one who enjoyed every moment of her stay there was our furry baby Katie! The location, the warm hospitality, the food, basically everything about the place was absolutely wonderful! Manoj, the owner, kept checking on us to ensure we were well looked after—but he needn’t have bothered. Hemant’s cooking and Pankaj’s service made our stay there truly memorable. Lazing around in the hammocks facing the Mukteshwar temple on the mountain opposite, evenings spent in front of a crackling bonfire followed by a tasty dinner—all added up to a lovely camp experience with just the right amount of modern amenities thrown in. Even the resident puppy, Blackie, made sure that our Katie was thoroughly entertained! After our five-day stay there, it felt as if we were leaving home. A big ‘thank you’ to Manoj, Pankaj and Hemant for the lovely experience!…
Best part are the peaches trees. Some nature walk. Food is good. Need to improve on parking which is at height and non coated road, require high acceleration and attempts bit risky and non car friendly. If you have old members, it will require climbing to the venue from the parking. Help full and courteous staff are boon in such a situation. Ask for sight seeing services if required they will arrange private cab on chargeable basis. 12 kms from famous temple, and small market at least a km away. Trip to and fro from venue on personal vehicle not recommended. Petrol pump at least 20 km away but petrol can be bought privately at premium price but not sure of quality. You can ask for cricket bat, badminton racket, ludo etc. Please add some woollen for nights. Carry some ready to eat stuff, it will be of help. Camps don't have all luxury items but basic necessities. Water fall is far off though some have posted pics along with the camps. …
