We recently stayed here and the stay was great. The room was very nice bathroom was a little smaller than I anticipated. The staff was amazing the entire time. There were a lot of cats around the pool area and unfortunately I am highly allergic to cats. All the restaurants were amazing. Live music! The casino was cool as well. The pool water was nice and warm and the beach was right there as well as the jet ski's to rent. We will be staying again! Oh and the club was cool to with live performances.

Upon checking in to the hotel and waiting for our room. I received a text / notice from my bank, that the hotel had placed a charge of $810.?. I went back to the front desk, and they said they did not know why that was transacted. Good thing I flagged the charge with my bank, and they removed it. But not before freezing my account. I was stuck in a restaurant trying to pay my bill when my account was frozen. I dealt with the hotel, and they refunded part of what they said they would refund me for the "accidental" charge. I negotiated to have my parking "free" after the fiasco. Our first day in the hotel room, the ironing board was broken (only had one leg) and the refrigerator in the room, was in a pool of water. The hotel just gave us extra towels to place under the fridge so we could soak up the water... Second day, the espresso machine was malfunctioning, and hot water was coming out of the buttons on the coffee maker. Water and coffee covered the counter. We got that replaced. On another night, the Club opened up and it was dress code enforced. A lot of the ladies were dressed in less clothes than I had on. They would not let me in because I had on slack type shorts and sneakers with a button up shirt. Later when they realized the head count in the club was low, the manager came to me and said, I could go in now. I kindly declined. I enjoyed the hotel and the night life inside of it. But, with all the issues, I doubt I will ever go back again.

This hotel was super quiet as it was the off season, but everyone was still accommodating and friendly. Our first greet was the hotel check in associate Frances Adorno that was kind, knowledgeable and generous. Must nicer than the evening front desk associate. The grounds are well kept, the pools are clean and the front entrance round bar upon walking in is magical, takes you back in time. However, if you DO NOT like cats, this hotel isn’t for you. They roam free and make this paradise their home. All and all, you can’t be the four pools and beach access.

I wanted to give this place 5 stars because the service was terrific, the pools and grounds were nice, and the beach was well kept and well attended to too. However, the price of drinks and cabanas made absolutely no sense whatsoever as they were absurdly high, even being from NYC these prices were outrageous. It was dumb and forced us just out of principle to make other arrangements for alcohol (there's a CVS 1 block away) and food (there are several food choices within close walking distance from the hotel and it seemed safe). Also the service at the Casino was the worst I’ve ever encountered. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Detailed Analysis: The Villa rooms were very standard but nice and the beds were particularly comfortable especially for hotel beds. The maids were top notch and gave us a case of water on day 1 that someone else had left behind. She didn't have to do that. The hotel itself looked like the rooms might need some updating but we stayed in the Poolside Villas and they were up to date. However, like a lot of hotels the rooms had carpet which just sucks in a pool/beach resort. There were several nice pools and hot tubs. The only negative was that they weren't connected in any way. So you'd have to go pool hopping. Only 1 pool has a swim up bar but with $24 for a drink you're crazy to be getting drunk there. The cabanas are beautiful and we got one for free one day because they were spraying bleach near us which was stupid. But they typically have a minimum spend of $950 on these things MIDWEEK! That's insane. No one ever rented them and they could have been enjoyed by guests paying to stay there already. Really stupid on the hotel's part. The beach was super clean, no seaweed everywhere like we found in the Dominican. (I won't go back to Punta Cana anymore). The sand was nice and soft, the water was warm and relatively clear. There's no marine life close to shore because of the reefs (that's a great thing imo) and there's small but minimal waves that are great for families. The staff out there was incredible, setting up seats with shade and taking care of pretty much anything you could need. They were top notch from our experience there. It made things super easy with small kids especially flip flopping back and forth between the pool and the beach. The restaurant selection is lacking there. Cana was terrible. Meat Market was overpriced and over-hyped. It was mediocre at best. Ruth's Chris next door was substantially better. In fact, I would probably strongly consider staying at the Royal Sonesta next door as the prices were much more reasonable and the grounds were just as nice if not nicer. Recently redone. At the "Shops at the El San Juan" in the Fairmont there's an Italian restaurant that is excellent. It's also not super cheap but it's worth the visit for sure. My kids ate us eat there 3 times during the week. Just beware, the gratuity is already added in there and it's like 22% LOL. Crazy. They have Ice Cream or Gelato there as well. There's not really anywhere else in the resort to get ice cream or incidentals. Every time we went to the hotel general store it was closed. Same with the candy shop in the shops. Everything was always closed. The Coffee place in the lobby closed at 1pm but was also excellent. The latte's were delicious and the only complaint was that they closed too early and didn't have skim milk as an option. There's often entertainment, live singing and dancing in the amazing lobby. It's the first thing (the lobby) that you see when you walk in and it's impressive. It's a beautiful place that's really well laid out and put together. However, again, with the prices here you're just very unmotivated to spend any real money when you know you're being taken advantage of as a captive audience. I found that part a bit offensive the prices were so high. There's a CVS about 2 blocks away though and there's a Walgreens a block past that. They are both quite large and have EVERYTHING you might need for a week. Prices identical to the US. We got 2 snorkel sets for the kids for $7 total. The Fairmont had them for $25 which I thought wasn't as crazy as the rest of their prices. We got beer, water, Gatorade, cold cuts, etc. and used the mini fridge in the room extensively. The rooms desperately need microwaves but sadly this is something they just don't offer. I think this is another huge mistake on their part and plays into the 4-star rating here. Also there’s a casino attached to the Fairmont but the experience was terrible there. Read my reviews of the Foxwoods El San Juan Casino for more information. It seriously tainted an otherwise excellent week.

YOU MUST STAY AT THE SAN JUAN FAIRMONT HOTEL WHEN IN PUERTO RICO What an amazing time we had. WE STAYED FOR NINE AMAZING DAYS. The Hotel is situated in a nice area with tons of restaurants around it. If you choose not to leave the premises, there are good restaurants inside the hotel as well. The pools are clean and VERY WELL kept. The beach is within the hotel and beautifully kept. The rooms are nice and the housekeeping employees are accomodating. The hotel is kid friendly. One of the most enjoyable part of our trip, was the many folks we met (other guests) and became friends with. We want to give a big shout out to the Front Desk employee FRANCES. She is a true caring professional employee. She made sure our stay was an enjoyable one. We will go as far as to say FRANCES YOU SHOULD BE EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR 2022 😁❤️ Thank you...thank you....thank you for taking such great care of our stay. We miss the hotel and will be returning very soon. Elias & Marcia Valentin

I want to acknowledge two staff members who really went above and beyond to make my stay enjoyable. LUIS, the bartender at the Chandelier Bar and Fabio Diaz, the Lobby General Manager! I work in hospitality as a hotel concierge so I appreciated the warm welcome from your Food & Beverage Team. I hope you acknowledge these two valuable team members for their service AND loyalty to your property.

First off, I want to be clear that the people at this hotel are outstanding. Omar the GM, Jimmy the bellhop. Both fantastic. All the other service I received was top notch. The problem with this fairmont is 1), the design/layout and the room size/quality vs the price. For $500 I got a “pool villa” which I was upgraded to from an oceanview room. While renovated, the room was quite small and still felt a bit dated. It also had no ocean view. 2), the identity of this place. Is it a jersey shore rage fest? A beach resort? It does not seem to be sure of what it is. By trying to serve too many demographics it fails to serve any,

This hotel is simply incredible. It's historic facilities built in the 1950s have been well maintained and upgraded but kept the gorgeous woodwork creating the out wonderful environment for relaxing. I stayed 2 nights and had an absolute blast just enjoying the hotel. Mildred at the bar was exceptional, band played in the lobby, casino was so professional and the night staff throughout the building were top notch. I couldn't have asked for anymore from this beautiful property. If you are in San Juan, this really is the only place you should consider staying for an inspiring experience.

I came to this resort with my three friends to celebrate a birthday. It was my first time in Puerto Rico and I had an awesome experience. The rooms were clean, the resort was safe, the casino and club are perfect and so convenient. We met a wonderful employee named Frances who was working at the front desk. She went above and beyond to help us. I would definitely recommend this resort to family or friends!!
