We had heard a lot about this hotel until we physically visited this one just two weeks back. It was a real treat indeed! Located inside the Sonajhuri forest, this hotel cum restaurant is approximately 10 mins of toto ride ahead of Biswabharati. The food is all authentic Bengali. They have a thali system where veg thali is the base. One can top it up with fresh fish (katla/ pabda) or chicken or mutton. Since it's a thali system, one can feed till neck deep. We had three elderly people on our group, besides us, the youngsters. Everyone was thoroughly satisfied with the food, the ambience and the hospitality of the staff. They serve meals in "kansar thala" and "kansar glass". The veg meal has got rice with Begun bhaja, muger dal, aloobhaja, shukto, sobji, aloof chochhori. All taste awesome. You will get extra lemon, green chilli, papad and achar if you need. The mutton or the fish are of real good quality. The mutton was of "kochi patha" variety and not a "khasi". So you would get solid meat. Four pieces in a plate. Fair enough size. Fir fish, we ordered Katla. There were two quite big pieces. Wholesome, handsome. And heartful taste. Coming to the ambience, they have decorated the entire resturant like a mud house. Even the sitting chairs are made of big logs of wood, which synchronise with the ambience.

They also offer stay facilities. Easy to book. And no issue with conveyance, as local totos line up in front almost throughout the day.

We did not stay at Ram Shyam but only visited for lunch. Restaurant food is delicious. We had proper Bengali Veg thali along with Mutton curry and Pabda Fish. All the dishes were tasty. One plus point is that they serve in authentic Bronze plates and bowls.

I visited Tarapith and Bolpur in Dec2021. It was a family trip. I had a 7 years old kid and senior citizen parents wirh me. Basically i booked this hotel online through their website . The best part is you can book the property by room number from wesite. One recommendation will be to book rooms on 1st Floor. That will give you the best views ( example : Room no 5 &6).
The Hotel is decorated with a rural concept and you will get the feeling of mud house. So do not expect any high end luxury in the room. But you will have basic amenities like - AC/ mini fridge/ geyser etc.
The USP of this property is its food. It is budget friendly yet yummy taste. If you are not a resident of the hotel then you will need to collect advance lunch token to get your chance. I am told by the manager that they have served lunch to 1000+ people on 25th Dec. People from all over Bolpur come to taste food here. The Sonsjhuri Haat is just outside the Hotel campus. In fact you can enjoy Baul Dance and Tribal Dhamsha Madol dance sitting on your balcony.
The room rent is also decent. You will get Rooms in the range of INR 2000 - 2500. They have POS facility for all payments.

The only challenge i faced was the service timeline. May to due to extreme rush on account of festive season they were unable to serve breakfast/ Lunch / Dinner on time and they have denied to accept orders in few instances. Management should look into this and take some corrective actions

I have covered this hotel and Bolpur in my Youtube Channel. You will get the link in my profile. Do take time out to view and share your opinion

One star each for ambience outside room, flee market next to the location and hospitality of the room keeper. But I wouldn’t like to call it a resort. The room were too small, untidy and bed very uncomfortable. Had booked for a Baul Gaan and that was amazing, not included in resort amenities.

A Bengali friend has suggested me this resort to and it was the best part of our trip to Shantiniketan. The staff is very good. At our request, they lit a bonfire as well. The food was also good. The location of this resort is also very good.

Let me be clear at first, I did not stay here. This review is only about their food.

Pros :
Presentation of thali and restaurant ambience.

Cons:
1. The place is filled with flies. While eating u have to keep one hand free to wave at the flies to remove them. Otherwise your food will be ruined. It's filthy.
2. The Thali consist of little amount of rice with little amount of Dal. Posto and shukto are the only ones that will keep you interested in continuing with the food.
Then there are very little amount of chatni and alu bhaja with one begun bhaja.
3. No repeat of food except rice.
4. We choose fish, and the taste was just average. Not at all a great one.
5. Low quality and quantity of food.

I did not understand why on earth people have lunch on such places.. Only to have a taste of authentic Bengali food ? Trust me you will get authentic Bengali food in most other places in Bolpur. You don't have to travel to such far place to have one. These people do business only on Saturday and Sunday because of the sanibarer Haat, other days they are empty.

The place is near to the famous sanibarer Haat so we decided to have lunch before visiting the Haat and I must say it could have been avoidable.

Pros
1) Excellent Location. Just in front you have the sonajhuri forest. It's a treat to watch and roam around on a moonlight night.
2) The food is good.
3) Staffs are quite courteous.

Cons
1) It's a horribly filthy place. There no proper drainage system in place. All the drainage water directly goes out on the agricultural land on the backside. The horrible smell of the drain prevails throughout the day, specially on the first half when it attracts a lot of crowd due to it's restaurant, people from outside use the restrooms at that point of time and odour becomes unbearable. It's a bit better at night as there are no visitors at the restaurant, the odour dumbs down a bit; but still it's a pain.
2) The rooms are quite cramped up in size. especially if you are travelling with kids or have some extra luggage, you are in for some trouble.

One of the two eateries near Sonajhuri Haat. The architecture of the hotel is good, the interior of the hotel have a village feeling with walls made of mud and they serve the food in Bronze Thali and Glass. Food Taste's are good too.

I along with a Group visited Bolpur in the month of December and stayed at 'Ram Shyam Village Resort, which is Sonajhur. The nearest station is Bolpur Prantik. The hotel room is well furnished. The quality and preparation of food is very much good. The place of weekly 'Mela" of Bolpur (Saturday only) where all types of cottage industry products of Bolpur are available on moderate price is very much near to this resort. Visiting public of said Mela are coming to take food in this hotel. The place is very much calm and quite surrounding this hotel. People may stay two to three days to enjoy quietness of the place.
