it's a memory !
if the location remains superb, if the rooms are beautiful, if the maids are charming, if the swimming pool and the garden are very pleasant, if the receptionists are professional......
there is a real problem at the restaurant.
the service is unpleasant from a waiter who would be more suited to a fast food restaurant and has no knowledge of this profession. the cuisine is very average in a sad room for groups of big tourists....same sinister and unwelcoming atmosphere for breakfast with a disgusting empenada.
Parking is very expensive even though it has been paid for for a long time and amigo customers have no reduction.
in short, a hotel in decline and with inappropriate prices for the "service" it provides and to which I will not return again

The room was a nice size with a seating area. Bathroom was large.
Breakfast is a timed entry so if you arrive late, you may not be able to get in before you have to leave. This happened to us the first morning, so we were given a "picnic" bag which included an orange, pineapple juice, a packaged croissant, two dry sandwiches and water. The registration staff from the evening also made sure the coffee machine was moved into the lobby so our coffee drinkers could get their morning coffees. It's not usually out there. The evening registration staff were excellent to help us out this way.
When we did get to breakfast it was nice. They bring coffee and warm milk to the table and you order the hot food off a menu card. Service was a little hard to get (coffee refills or ordering the food). Decent buffet options for pastries, meats and cheese etc.
It's in an excellent location to get to the old town or the newer areas. They do have paid parking in an underground garage, but it does fill up.
Definitely one of a kind lodging.
its the customer care that's the problem. The breakfast operates on a sitting basis (in 2024?) and consists of standard cold offerings with no hot options. There is a menu on the table showing a few hot options but since no one asks if you would like to order it doesn't really matter. The staff grimly go about their business of bringing tea or coffee and then get back to clearing and relaying tables No smiles no engagement with guests just doing what they have to do until the shift ends. Similar treatment on reception with staff looking at their screens while you talk to them.
The Parador is a beautiful building but fundamentally its just that - a building where people pay to sleep and eat. As a hotel it just lacks soul which is a shame because with just a few easy adjustment it could be so much better.

We found the staff on the reception desk a little cool, and were surprised to find out on arrival that we needed to book a breakfast time slot (as well as dinner)- which was a problem as we needed to leave early the next day for a flight, and early times were already booked. They did provide us with an extensive picnic ,however, which served as lunch as well :)
The room was clean, spacious and well equipped with a fabulous view, and the bed was exceptionally comfortable. We ate in the hotel restaurant in the evening - a fancy interesting menu and the most expensive meal we had during our week in Spain, but not the best and once again the staff were not the most warm and friendly. This hotel has so much going for it with its unique position and style, but there seemed to be something lacking in the ambiance, possibly because of staffing issues.
We arrived by car at the hotel and a grumpy employee came out of the lobby waving us toward the entrance of the underground carpark. We thought he meant to drive towards the closed gate and that it would open. After waiting for ten minutes the man returned shouting in Spanish why we had not pressed the button that was hidden somewhere and give the room number. We told him we had just arrived and needed to check in first. The man simply answered: the parking is 20 euro per night and left us swearing.
After checking in we decided to have a drink and something to eat. We had received a mailing from Paradores earlier giving us a 15% welcome discount on all food and drinks 'in the restaurant or other eating area'. The waiter did not know about this mailing from Paradores but would check and tell us. When he came back he did not say anything but just placed the food on the table. The food was terrible. Soggy tasteless club sandwiches with cold fries for our two daughters and two pulled pork sandwiches, but without the pulled pork. Instead a thin slice of dry fricandeau. The wine we had ordered before arrived 10 minutes later.
When I asked for the bill and noticed the discount was not given, the waiter said it was valid only at the restaurant. When I tried to to tell him the voucher clearly stated differently he started shouting ‘only restaurant’! After a few times trying to reason with him and asking for the manager I gave up and left for my room.
That evening there was a rockconcert next to the hotel, which lasted until 02:30 at night. I did not get much sleep. The next morning at breakfast, which was very average, we (and other hotel guests) had to wait for at least 10 minutes before a table was given. Clearly service does not work with only two waiters for a full breakfastroom. And mind you: they asked during check in what time you will be having breakfast so they can plan better... Clearly not.
When we finally checked out the next day the bill came up and luckily the woman at the reception knew the mailing I had referred to and apologized for the mistake. That was the only positive thing about this hotel. I cannot say I would recommend this hotel to anyone. It certainly does not deserve 4 stars in my opinion.
Oh and just one more advice: an electric aroma dispenser does not fully mask the awful smell of a failing sewage system. Of all the 5 hotels we visited this summer in Spain, the Parador de Ronda was the only negative experience.
