36 Palms is unique, it’s traditional and m decorated sympathetically to blend in with nature. The beds are comfortable, air con and hot water all reliable - as is the Wi-Fi!

The staff are incredibly helpful and have plenty of tips and advice to offer travellers, and the food services is traditional, delicious and fresh. If you want to kick back, relax, be somewhere quiet to unwind as part of your India trip, then I highly recommend this place.

The spa treatments are authentic, value for money and will leave you floating, you can also have private yoga lessons, and the staff can arrange trips for you too.

I visited 36 palms in January and the weather was beautiful.
I had a sea view room, which had the most amazing views of the ocean and had the relaxing sound of the waves and the sunsets were breathtaking.
The bed was extremely comfy and had a very peaceful night sleep.
I was greeted with a very warm welcome and that continued through my stay with all staff members and all very accommodating to anything you needed.
Clean wasting eating fresh every day and very reasonable with the restaurant overlooking the sea.
I indulged myself in the treatments they offered and was not disappointed. Leela was my therapist and she was very professional and gave an incredible massage.
So overall this retreat was 10/10 for me it ticked every box for a solo traveller so much so I am taking my son with me next year as it was like home from home with a luxury touch of TLC
Thank you so much to Dori and all the staff as my love for india has been reinforced with my stay at your beautiful retreat.
See you next year.
Much love Alex 🙏

Unlike many reviews I saw on the internet for 36 palms , I personally found the place very decent. We had a small friends get together here and the entire stay was great. The check in was smooth, the sea view room was impeccable, food was ok, the highlight was the swimming pool. Though small it was apt enough for the 5 of us along with some more guests who were in at the same time. The food is arranged from a nearby place and therefore there might be slight delays if not ordered in time. The sunset view from the deck is something one shouldn’t miss. Overall a great experience. The parking is the only area I felt needed extra attention other than that everything was well managed.

We traveled their last year. We stayed their for couple of days. We chose the antique room with bath tub. The resort was calm and beautiful(outside) but for some reason we were not feeling secured. It looks deserted for us. The room was also not worth the money we paid. There was a column in the middle of the room. There were some sketches on the wall and a wooden cabinet that doesn't made that room antique. And the bathroom was worst, old and stained bath tub, stained mirror, uncleaned flooring and there was no phone. You need to go search for someone if you need anything. About the food, no taste, limited varieties, way too costly. The free breakfast will have 1 or 2 varieties. You cant find any good hotels nearby. The previous night we stayed at Dunes, Cochin, the quality service and the food varieties was no way comparable with this resort. I think I am adding more negative points. There is one more, the pool, not at all clean. Ok now the positive points. The upper deck, the ocean view was pleasing to the eye. If you are lucky you could see dolphins and big fish like baby whales. Dont know exactly what we saw, it was huge. And the infinity pool, apart from uncleanness, the sunset view from the pool was a chilling experience. Overall if the management make some changes to the place it will be the most beautiful stay for the guests.

respected pradeep sir ji, we are looking high and dry but cant locate your booking dates, we apologize for any inconvenience caused to your sense and sensibility as to how exactly an antique room should look and feel ,,,weather a mural painted on a pillar is antique or modern,, a patinated mirror ,,so difficult to achieve,,,shows up as a dirty mirror on your review,, so please accept our apologies for not being up to your taste in judging how a room should be termed antique or modern, we also beg to differ but we were never a multi cuisine mass tourism hotel with many restaurants and a 5 page menu,, we pride our selves in serving authentic kerala style home cooked sea food ,,plus veg food for our yoga and ayurveda guest, nonetheless,,again our apologies for not being as good as dunes,,, once again our apologies for not being a mass tourism multi cuisine multi restaurant resort,,but we are a small 10 room boutique retreat,,touching the arabian sea,,and we like to keep in synch with nature and have all natural stones and finishes ,,with open air dining area,,,overlooking the sea and serve hot dishes,,,served fresh , respectfully at your service radheshyam

Although the resort has an amazing view and a beautiful property and pool, the service and maintenance of the property is abysmal. The food is abhorrent and the place needs a serious step up in their simple services that matter the most. There is no kids pool, the rooms are smaller than I expected unless you opt for the pricier sea view rooms which have privacy issues. The complimentary breakfast is horrible. They could do so much better by changing just a few things.

There are only eight rooms in the resort. Two Rooms in the main area of the resort alone is sea facing.. We booked the resort with an intention to stay in the sea facing rooms. We were allotted with the rooms in the heritage wing is not sea facing. The same is like a normal room with a small garden in front. If you climb few steps, you will be able to face the sea.. That area is a private space for these 6 six rooms and dining is provided in that area. Food is ok.. You have only limted choices for dinner. Break fast was also ok.. The break fast is arranged in the main building. There is an infinity pool in the resort. But the resort is not maintained properly. The staffs are friendly. But they don't have any professionalism in their attitude and all.

Its not a beach side resort.. You can just sit and view the sea from the restaurant and the dining area of the hotel or from the two sea facing rooms

They will not give the rooms which they promised while booking. Rooms are like a lodge. For locking the room you will be given a key and lock. Bath tub was stained and it is atleast 15 years old.Even bedsheet was also stained. Not at all worth Rs. 7500. You have many other good choices in Cherai. I will not ever choose this again.

Response from GAUTAM ANAND, Owner at 36 Palms Boutique Retreat
Responded 16 Mar 2022
Respected guest, we are indeed very sorry that your utmost desire to have the panoramic sea view room with king view could not be met, even though you were willing to pay extra for the upgrade, because all the 4 sea view rooms were sold out. the 4 sea view rooms being the premium rooms with lots of space inside and out side on there own decks ,get sold out very quickly ,especially on the weekends. please accept our sincere apology for not having a sea view room on your last minute booking . Further, since we are not even 10 feet from the Arabian sea. there is lots of sea spray and salt in the air, which spoils practically everything that is not wooden. Thus we have to use a pad lock which we can replace every now and then when it gets spoilt. Any other kind of door lock gets spoilt and the guest have many issues with opening and shutting the door. I can assure you that if you traverse the length and breath of Cherai beach, you wont come across a property bang on the sea, with a 50 mt long x 7 mt wide deck to stroll on and enjoy the sea mist , and an infinity pool with no obstructions overlooking the vast Arabian sea,, not to mention the open air dining area with fresh sea breeze . with authentic homely kerala sea food. 36 palms retreat opened for the public in jan 2016..And since we also have a ayurveda treatment centre, some guest go sit in the tub without washing off the treatment they have recvd in the spa shower . Hence some stains could have appeared on the white bath tub, but we again apologize that they have disturbed you. respected sir,a lodge means a very superior private living area of the rich in the uk or africa, i can understand your disappointment and comparing a 15 feet x 17 feet room with a attached bath room of 12 feet x 8 feet which has a sunk in bathtub,- murals painted on the pillars, -tv, - air-condition ,- mini fridge- 10 inch thick mattress on a king size bed 7 feet x 7 feet , with a tea / coffee making station please accept our humble apology for not living up to your expectations of what you deemed as a lodge, by way of being big and spacious and posh or a tiny room in a tiny nondescript hotel near the railway station. We have taken your feedback in the right spirit and will endeavor to strive to improve 36 palms retreat.

Excellent view but nothing much. Worst food. Not worth for more than one night stay. Price is too expensive for the facilities they are providing. Even parking space is less. In walkable distance you will find restaurants for good food

We just wanted to get away from Mumbai. Having been to Kerala I knew that it is time consuming to go from Airport to Cochin proper. So decided to stay outside on this island which has a long beach named Cherrai beach. I had stayed on this island island earlier when I visited Athirapally water fall. We were looking for a small hotel as my husband didn't want to walk long distance to go to restaurant.
The staff as soon as they saw an aged couple entering rushed to help with our baggage. We chose a room on the ground floor.
Dining area was located one storey above but was easily accessible. Close to dining area was a swimming pool with lounge chairs to relax. I enjoyed swimming every day. Young foreigners were jumping straight in to the sea.
We only went out in the evenings. The young hotel owner was so kind and friendly that whenever he ordered lunch for himself he also made sure that we get the same tasty food. This visit will stay in my memory for ever.

When we got there it was around 2pm. However the girls get the rooms changed over from 8 am and as there are only a few you should be fine to check in earlier. Worst case lay on the deck near the pool and relax while you wait. No alcohol sold there so take your own or they have a driver who will get for you. You have to drink respectfully in accordace with the hotels wishes. We were there 8 nights and had beers with all our meals. Great place!! Enjoy. Cheers David
