My mother and I took a much need 3 day rejuvenating getaway and experienced exactly that. I was visiting India from NY but needed to getaway from city life. This property is right across from the beach. There are no hotels on Cherai beach, they are across the street. This one is so close to the beach, you can hear the ocean waves lapping against the shoreline all day and night which is so serene and calming. You can go to the beach all day and night. It is quiet, not crowded. The staff puts up lounge chairs, umbrellas and provides towels and there is a foot wash for when you're sandy after being on the beach. The hotel is owned by a lovely couple who provide meals, in fact Auntie cooks most meals herself, so you can taste homemade delicious Kerala cuisine. Uncle arranges any activities and makes great suggestions for where to go and what to do. There are ayurvedic spas right down the street that will come and pick you up and drop you off after your treatments. I had the best massages of my life during my stay in Cochin. If you want to experience all the comforts and serenity Cochin has to offer, stay at this wonderful and homey B&B.…
The best parts of this family run Hotel are the very considerate and helpful hosts Mr. Polly and Ms Jesse who look after personally after the hosts. It's beautifully located less than 50 meters from the sea front and is a quiet and serene property. The room though small was adequate along with a small balcony in the front. The room accessory/fittings need some improvement. The dinning area and the garden on the ground floor are pleasant and well kept. Besides a wonderful young man serving as a waiter Ramesh is very efficient, well mannered and competent to serve his guests.A good place for a short break !
Poly (he), Jessy (she), their family and team are kind, attentive hosts. Cherai Beach Residency is a small guest house in a stunning, peaceful location, right on the Arabian Sea. The site and buildings are airy and healthy. From initial booking right up to departure the service was smooth and efficient. Rooms are simple, comfortable and clean; exactly what I was looking for. My first floor room had a small balcony with sea view. The beach is just across a quiet road, about 30 metres from the guest-house. The food is good, hygienically prepared by Jessy and her staff. There are limited choices; you order in advance and it is served on the roof terrace. - Only small drawback, there was a fridge in my room that was full of ants. Once this was removed, my stay was perfect!
Stayed here for 4 nights and it was everything we hoped for. It may not suite everyone, if for example you like to be close to the centre and expect 5 star luxury, but it certainly met our needs. It's set right next to a quiet stretch of the very long beach. There is a narrow road between the hotel and the beach, but very little traffic uses it. They provide sun beds and parasols along with towels so you can enjoy the peace and tranquillity. The sea was clean and warm, occasionally we could see dolphins and regularly saw Sea Eagles and other birds. Our favourite part of the day was watching the stunning sunsets. The room was clean, a good size with AC, fan, fridge, TV, kettle and balcony. The bed was a bit hard to be honest but I find that typical in India. To be hyper critical the shower was a bit weak, but adequate. The gardens were beautiful and the entire hotel was kept pristine. Food was either on the roof terrace or the ground floor terrace, however due to local laws, you could only have alcohol on the roof terrace. Everyone was so welcoming. A particularly big thank you to Samir who went out of his way to help in any way he could. Thanks for a wonderful stay!…
We had an amazing stay at this family led hotel, beautifully located between the wonderful arabian sea and the Kerala backwaters. The hosts and staff are very kind and attentive, the rooms are cute and very clean with amazing view either to the sea or the backwaters. Food was excellent. This hotel is the perfect choice for some relaxing and quiet days at the beach. Would definitely stay there again!
We arrived on new years day, very early, we met Poly and Jesse upon arrival we were given our room, lovely, clean tidy and functional, the property is extremely clean and tidy, and extremely homely. We settled in and had dinner, so good, Jesse just cooked for us for the next 27 nights whatever she and her able assistant wanted to cook, fish, chicken, veg curry and all the bits and pieces that went with, they have a diamond of a guy called Samir, anything you want, he will do and can get for you. The two lads that did the room and gardens, also did a great job. Not forgetting the night Watchman, who tried to teach me local lingo, but to no avail. Round the back of property was a beautiful garden, where the rabbits and birds lived, as well as home grown fruit and vegetables. Out the front, was the beach, and what a beach it was! Miles and miles of soft sand and clear seas, sunbeds were always available, just up our street. If you want a holiday in a genuine homestay, this is the place to stay, so.much so, we have already booked for the same 28 days of hot sunshine for next year Everyone at the property made us feel extremely welcome 10 out of 10 alround......…
My extended family (7 of us) booked 3 rooms at Cherai Beach Residency (not to be confused with Cherai Beach Resort down the road) for 3 days right after Christmas 2019. My husband and I have been to almost 30 countries and have stayed at a wide variety of places, but this is up there with the top 5 just because of the sheer warmth and hospitality of the hosts, Jessy & Poly. First off, Cherai Beach Residency is a small place, more like a large house than a hotel, and it is immaculately maintained. The rooms (air-conditioned) and large bathrooms are pristinely clean and comfortable. The staff are very attentive and obliging. That made this place instantly stand out to us. The compound sits across the road from the beach with easy access to the beach. There's a retaining wall that has been built between beach and road but right where this place is, the wall is very low so the beach is much more accessible than from some of the other resorts. They also put out beach chairs for guests unlike the other resorts. We hosted a lunch for 14 people the day we arrived, having made arrangements with Poly ahead of time via email. It was well-executed and the food (Kerala food) was very good. For the remainder of our stay, we had almost all meals at the resort (breakfasts are included with the room). We just had to tell them a couple of hours in advance what we wanted off their menu. I highly recommend their Kerala fish dishes -- they buy fish fresh off the fishermen's boats. More than the rooms, the food, the beach access, etc., it is their hospitality that stood out to us. We felt like we were at a relative's home the entire time because Poly and Jessy were so easy-going and flexible, extremely accommodating, and would even join our conversations when they weren't too busy. When Poly saw me filming a toddy tapper in the backyard, he arranged for us to have a taste of the toddy taken from his coconut trees. When we specified the type of fish we would like to eat, Jessy managed to get it. Tea or coffee was made whenever we wanted. When we needed to arrange for a taxi or autorickshaw, they'd do it promptly. When I mentioned that I couldn't handle long car rides for sight-seeing, Poly immediately brainstormed and came up with the idea of a boat tour and arranged for all the tickets within minutes. My 82-year-old mother was so impressed with Cherai Beach Residency that she immediately booked two rooms for January for my sister's visit. I asked my sister yesterday what to write in this review and she said, "Just write a rave review!" Clearly their service is consistent. Their resort is small enough for them to manage beautifully (just 6 or 7 rooms, I think) and it's evident that Poly and Jessy absolutely love what they do. They love meeting people from around the world, and they equally love meeting people who (like my mom and aunt) live in Kerala. Cherai Beach Residency was the best possible choice for a family get-together but my husband and I are equally certain that we will return for a stay by ourselves. We cannot recommend it highly enough!…
My wife and I stayed here for 4 nights during our visit to India. Jessy and Poly are lovely, warm and kind folks. The staff is hard-working and wonderful. The place itself is ideally located - tucked away from the busy parts of town yet walkable to everything in town. The rooftop dining area is fantastic, with gorgeous views of the sea on one side and the backwaters on the other side. We loved eating the complementary breakfasts there! The beach is right across, and they provide beach chairs and umbrellas. Cherai Beach itself is a hidden gem - highly recommend visiting for a great beach vacation. We found it very hard to leave, and would love to come back to Cherai. And when we do, there is no place we'd rather stay than at Cherai Beach Residency!! Thank you, Jessy, Poly, and the staff, for making our stay such a memorable one!…
We visited the place last week. Property is well maintained and available at affordable price, it's very closed to beach and waives can be seen from room itself. Property owners are very friendly and helpful. Would like to visit the place again.
My wife and I, during a visit to Cochin, decided to spend a few days at Cherai Beach which is about 30 odd kilometers from the city. Since it was the second half of August it was still the rainy season and hence most of the hotels in Cherai were shut or just about getting organised for the tourist season which was still a month away. Cherai Beach Residency was the first place that we visited and we just fell in love with it. The beach is literally at its doorstep, just across the narrow strip of a road that runs along the whole Cherai beach. We were the only guests at Cherai Beach Residency and so had the whole place to ourselves. Poly and Jessy the owners of the place checked us into a bright and cheerful room on the first floor overlooking the beach and sea. The room also had a small balcony with two chairs and a small coffee table to enjoy your morning coffee while gazing out at the waves crashing on to the beach. The room had a double bed with very clean linen, a small refrigerator, electric kettle, coffee, sugar and milk sachets. The room also had a flat screen TV with a satellite dish connection. The room was very clean and tidy. The attached bathroom with shower (hot and cold water available) and commode was also super clean with an exhaust fan, bright lighting above the mirror / wash basin and clean towels. The guests get free wi-fi and a complimentary breakfast every morning. If required they can also provide lunch, but to be honest, they are not really geared up to offer a multiple choice menu in-house and they readily admit to that. There are a few restaurants about half a mile down the road which offer a wider choice / menu and they have placed their menu card in the room so that guest can order the food of their choice which will be delivered by the restaurant in about 45 minutes. To get around and see the the place guests can hire a scooter and Poly would be happy to arrange it for you. If you know how to ride a scooter I would strongly recommend that you hire a scooter because of the freedom it offers for you to get around town. It is particularly useful when you want go out to eat dinner at night and the three wheeler autorickshaws may prove to be a more expensive and inconvenient mode of transport for the average Indian tourist since they do not charge by the meter and you have to pretty much pay them what they ask depending on the distance. Apart from the sun, sand and surf there isn't much to do in Cherai and although we did see a place which had a signboard saying Water Sports Facility it was not open, I guess due to it being off season when we visited. For those looking to rejuvenate their tired bodies there are Ayurvedic Centers / Spas offering multiple options. Poly told us that many of their guests are repeat visitors who come specifically for undergoing the Ayurvedic treatments during the stay. Cherai Beach Residency is the perfect beach holiday destination for those seeking to unwind from a hectic and stressful city life. A few days stay at Cherai Beach Residency will calm your mind and help you recharge your spirit. Cherai Beach Residency is truly a piece of heaven on this earth with two of God's angels, Poly and Jessy to look after you. There is no better place for a short holiday in Cherai than at "THE CHERAI BEACH RESIDENCY." Like the Nike advertisement says: "JUST DO IT."…
