Detailed Reviews
To Horror in Rincon:
After a recent trip to Rincon, and staying in Amirage, again like for the tenth time, I sat down to write a review and I read your horrible "Horror in Rincon PR" I could not believe my eyes!
I have been to Amirage many, many times, and I have recomended it to friends and family many more times than I can remember, Joy and David are wonderful hosts, the place is not only amazingly beautiful but the atention to details that Joy takes is not found in many of the other similar lodgings in the area BY FAR!
The whole place is always spotless, the rooms , bathrooms , porches and gardens!
Your review is so totally unfair.
When you write: "The police were called" I'm sure it was Joy or David...who called, they did care, they were preocupied and mortified and sad that you had to go through a terrible experience in your vacation, yes you were robbed...BUT IT'S NOT THEIR FAULT! In fact, it was probably YOU who left the window open in the first place! And....please, all those "what ifs"... did't happen!
Amirage has been one of the safest places in all that area for yeas...just imagine, in 16 years this is THE FIRST TIME something like this has happened, just because YOU left a window open!
To all the people who read this unfair one sided, mean and unfair review, I say...compare how many "Excellent" against "Bad" or "Poor" reviews Amirage has and you"ll know the truth of the story!

Just got back from PR yesterday. Spent 5 days in Rincon and stayed at Amirage. My place was a 2BR that was very roomy, clean and on the 2nd floor of the house with a large deck overlooking the water. 1st floor has massive deck with hot tub (worked great), and beautiful plants and landscaping. You can take steps down to the water however this house is right on the water and there is very little room to walk along the beach. It's about 5 miles south of Rincon. Plenty of restaurants and bars all around the Rincon area. The Spot was good for dinner (take a walk along the beatiful beach there and watch the sunset before dinner), there's an internet cafe with great ice cream on 115, and the Calypso bar near El Faro is a fun place to hang out for a drink, light lunch and to watch the surfers and meet people.
My room was very clean, had a/c which i used a little, satellite tv so i could catch the B-ball games, etc. and pretty much met my expectations. If you want lots of company and need to be near all the action and a beach to walk on you probably want to try someplace closer to town. If you want a large, quiet (except for the sound of the waves), fully equipped place this seemed to be an excellent place for the money. Make sure the owner sends you directions etc. before you leave. A bottle of wine, fruit, cheese, and coffee were there when I arrived. Waves very big when i was there so scub/snorkeling was limited. I ended up driving 1.25 hours to La Parguera a fishing village in So. PR with a great reef and bioluminescent bay. Try paradise scuba and snorkel in town------------. Very safe and helpful. For a good massage try Rayn Jacks ---------- she is new in town from Oregon and brought everything out to my place for a massage overlooking the water ~ $30 special intro rate.

We've stayed at Amirage several times and it keeps getting better as the owners add new amenities like the hot tub under the stars with an ocean view. The two and three bedroom suites are charmingly decorated and comfortable, each with its own private deck and well equipped kitchen. There's always a welcome basket awaiting us. What a pleasure to walk right out from the private beach into the ocean for swimming and snorkeling. In the enclosed gardens and on the main deck there's a profusion of flowering plants and fruit trees on view. It's a luxurious getaway place and we highly recommend it.

I booked this place months in advance because it was listed as a “hidden gem” and particularly because it had a hot tub. Upon the day of my arrival the manager told me the hot tub had been out of order for 3 months! Something I clearly should have known before booking and banking on this amenity. False advertising. Everything went downhill from there on out. Broken toilet seat, broken lamps, broken window shades, inefficient fans and air conditioning, broken stove, ants everywhere invading my luggage not once but two times I had to clear ants out of my bags! Big, long black hairs all over the uncomfortable couch and shower (weren’t mine! I’m blond). Totally gross and funky. Everything about this unit was a letdown except for the million dollar ocean view! So if you want a dump with an incredible view, this is the place for you!!! My husband and I will never be back

+1
My family and I recently returned from our vacation at the Amirage. Little did we know that the "Great Price" we received from Joy, the owner, for booking all 3 units would cost us MUCH MORE at the end. First, the inviting Jacuzzi & Kayaks you see in the Amirage website are NOT available for guests unless the owners are there. When we got to the resort we were informed by the manager, Wanda, that the Jacuzzi was not working and we saw that the kayaks were also locked away. We had Wanda call Joy to let her know we were very upset that she did not disclose this prior to our arrival. Joy claimed that the parts were on order and was sorry she didn't tell us and gave us $300 worth of COMPENSATION, OR SO WE THOUGHT! According to past Trip Advisor reviews, the Jacuzzi parts have been on order for the PAST FEW YEARS but yet it works when the owners are there. IT’S OBVIOUS THAT JOY HAS A TRACK RECORD OF LYING, BEING DISHONEST AND HAS COMPLETLY MISREPRESENTED HER PLACE. We tried to enjoy our vacation but were very frustrated because we were awoken every morning at 6:30am by the neighbor constructing his patio. The last 3 nights were a nightmare, because the AC in my unit broke and Joy WAS TOO CHEAP to spend $250 to replace it and REFUSED TO ACCOMMODATE US AT A NEARBY HOTEL. She stated that the $300 SHE COMPENSATED US WITH, due to her lies about the Jacuzzi ,WAS REALLY THE BEST SHE COULD DO AND THAT WE COULD HAVE USED THAT MONEY TO RENT A PLACE.
HOW DARE YOU RUN A BUSINESS LIKE THIS, JOY?? YOU TRAP YOUR GUESTS AT YOUR “MIRAGE” AND THEN PROVIDE SUCH DISPICABLE SERVICE!!!! So, her TRAINED PUPPET, Wanda, gave us a fan and said that was the best they could do. THANKS, JOY, FOR LETTING US SPEND OUR LAST 3 NIGHTS SWEATING our -- OFF. Oh, did I mention that a cheap plastic chair broke when my husband sat in it and Joy charged me $5 for that. He’s having back problems now. It gets better, after we arrived home, JOY CONTINUED HER LYING STREAK AND CLAIMED that we had broken an umbrella. I have attached a picture of the umbrella which was NOT BROKEN WHEN WE LEFT. The past Trip Advisor reviews also complain about JOY TRYING TO STEAL MONEY BY CLAIMING THINGS WERE BROKEN YET SHE PROVIDES NO PROOF OR RECEIPTS.
Here is her itemized list: ($5-plastic chair) ($150-Umbrella) ($80 lights)($50 FOR HER FREAKIN TIME, TRAVEL AND INSTALLATION) JOY, WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE? WE SLEPT WITH NO AC FOR 3 NIGHTS AND NOW YOU WANT US TO PAY FOR YOUR TIME!! Joy lied again and said she would mail us $65 and we only got back $15! So, THERE WENT OUR $300 COMPENSATION. When phoning Joy to let her know we did not break an umbrella, that we wanted OUR DEPOSIT BACK, AND wanted her to PROVIDE PROOF OF PURCHASE, SHE STATED THAT SHE DIDN’T WANT TO ARGUE & HUNG UP ON US. SHE’S SCAMMING INNOCENT TOURISTS. DO NOT STAY AT AMIRAGE, YOU WILL HAVE A NICE VIEW BUT WILL BE COMPLETELY ROBBED IN THE END!!!! JOY, I HOPE YOU ENJOYED STEALING OUR HARD EARNED MONEY AND THANKS FOR COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY RUINING OUR VACATION. DON'T YOUR WORRY, WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND.
AND YOU'LL BE HEARING FROM US AGAIN.

Although the place is quite pretty, beware of the owners! These two people are the most bizarre people I have ever met. When speaking with them keep a tape recorder on so that you can go back to the tapes. You say one thing to them and they come from left field and say another.
When attempting to pay with credit card, "David" would not accept it and stated he would only take cash and did not give a receipt. My experience with Amirage, was disastrous. The jacuzzi on site was never prepared to be used, when a problem arose the "Manager" was never on site and the owner, spews untruths and slanderous statements without being there! A car is definetly needed to get to town or any places of interests. Not in walking distance. ( Unless you loveeeeeeeeeee to walk.) If an affair is planned at Amirage, make sure you cross all your tees and dot those i's.
I've stayed at other hotels and guest houses in the area, and the people, surroundings and convenience are much more desirable.

I recently wrote an email to Amirage, asking for some rates for a weekend getaway.
I wrote it in spanish, (cause I'm Puertorrican and it'slocated in Rincon, PR) and for my surprise, they answer back with a: "No Habler Español"!!! I was like "What the hell?" They manage a hotel in PUERTO RICO, and they can't answer my mail correctly because they don't speak my language? I recommend them to get the hell out of my island, or learn how to attend Puertorrican and Latin costumers.
In the other hand, iI asked for rates, and the only answer I had, and I quote was: "We have 3 nite minimun" NO, THANK YOU.
I rather spend my hard earned money somewhere else.

Don't make the same mistake we made by renting from the pictures at AMIRAGE web site. To start with the people who own this property have the hard cell down and have you arriving thinking this a major resort.
This property has no beach and does come with the heaveiest kyack one has ever lifted. Also they do have a hot tub that is only run if owners present and when they are not there the tub has parts on order just ask Joy the owners wife. Also the property comes with a gas grill and don't forget to bring your own propane as if you run out Joy will be sure to let you know how expense it is.
Just a quick warning about the wacky property manager. She will be there to take the money and the rest of your stay you'll wonder what the hell happened to her.
If you also like wild dogs begging for food and at your feet with every movement then this is the place to be. Also to get to the beach you must access the stairs by the hot tub that doesn't work.
This property is not what you see on there web site and your money would be better spent on fling over this island to Aruba.

Re: Big Disappointment- I beg to differ-photos of Amirage is exactly what you get-which is always waterfront but @ times due to wave action we have very little sand so is not always good beachfront. This was clearly explained and other beach options, all very close by, were given-as well as keys to this family to use our beachfront condo property with its miles of sandy beaches as well as its pool which I was told by Manager they greatly enjoyed. Our beautiful waterfront property is custom built, unique with 2 outstanding tropical gardens,a 100 ft oceanfront deck with gas grill and jacuzzi-We explained in summer when owner away jacuzzi not in service due to maintenance- they were aware of this-also the summer Rate @Amirage is $25 less per room so that only this 1 amenity not available as it is in winter when owner on site to maintain- Kayaks are free & are sea worthy from Maine. Re: gas grill- this was a real issue with these guests-This is the only time in 6 yrs that we have had such a problem-These guests left gas grill on overnite, gas grill sits on a wooden deck-the lid was ajar with a hot pad-the next morning my manager found sparks & lots of smoking from our grill. This was very serious,I called guests but they were out. That nite they wanted to use grill again only to find it out of propane, why? because they had left it on overnite. I was called and they expected immediate refill- I told him our supplier takes 24 hrs and when I started to tell him it was possible to burn our 100 ft deck down from leaving this grill on, he hung up the phone before I could finish speaking-The propane was refilled in 24 hrs, was used again & was left on again overnite the nite before they left, this he failed to mention in his review! Re: Manager-she was either seen or phoned every day these guests in residence and she did everything in her power to make them happy but there are just some people you cannot please no matter how hard you try. Lastly Re: Stray dogs- yes, P.R. & all the Caribbean sadly has an abundance of strays-but in Rincon-we have started ARF-Animal Rescue Foundation and we all try to get as many homeless adopted and taken care of that we can. Rincon is a caring community.Amirage has an entry gate which needs to be closed if you decide to cook out for privacy as well as not to encourage a poor hungry pup to enter--

The very unethical behavior of the owner of this establishment forces us to write a NOT RECOMMEND review of this property. It is not a place to hold a wedding. Service is attrocious. Owner seems to think that she doesn't need to provide a service. There is no parking for large groups.

Amirage is the Perfect place for a wedding-a movie-like setting- bride & groom married on cantilevered deck 17 ft above caribbean- Our personal & Business reputation is sterling in the community of Rincon & worldwide .As a Registered nurse I have always taken care of others it is my raisond'etre . I enjoy serving my guests and do everything in my power to see they have the happiest of all times @Amirage. We are honest & have always felt a moral obligation to do the right thing which we have abided by in @Amirage & in our personal lives. Re: Parking- It was very clearly explained we have 4 spaces @Amirage and for wedding we have the use of a lot ,2 houses away that can accomodate about 8 cars-otherwise street parking- this was made clear, no secret & that is far more than man y places have! More on ethics-the bride & groom stayed an extra nite without asking and of course never paid-how ethical was that?

If you're bringing your kids, I would pass on this place. Spent 4 days with wife and son and owners got agitated when 2 cousins showed up to play with us on the beach one sunny afternoon. Her concern was the possibilty of more guests arriving....?? My recommendation to her was to let guests know ahead of time (post rules, etc...) There are other places much more kid friendly. Villa Ensenda for examaple is much prettier and has more of that Rincon feel. The owners there made us feel very welcome and at ease.
