I stayed here for two nights during the Cheltenham Festival, I chose the Ragged Cot because I booked too late and most other hotels were horribly overpriced, and because on Google Maps there was a bus stop nearby (I travelled by public transport) – but I'm so glad I ended up here. Right on arrival the location is so charming, you very much feel like you are wonderfully secluded in the Cotswolds.

I was very impressed with the quality of the room, especially at such a reasonable price. It was quiet, spacious, and cosy. The bathroom was modern and I loved the rain shower (though, personally, the toiletries were not to my taste so maybe bring your own).

The food in the pub was only okay. I liked the appetizer and salad on the first night, but the night I got back later from the races I only just managed to order before the kitchen closed. I was told there would be a delay because there was only one cook in, which was fine with me since presumably I was the last order; after a 40-minute wait my burger finally arrived and the bun was ice cold (and I think even I can make a burger faster than that!). The hot breakfast I ordered on my second morning was also mediocre and relatively cold by the time it was in front of me.

All of the staff I encountered were incredibly friendly and welcoming. When I mentioned going to the Cheltenham Festival, one of the ladies serving at breakfast even made me a takeaway bag of croissants and fruit, which I found so lovely. Overall, I'd definitely recommend the Ragged Cot for a Cotswolds getaway. It really felt like I was spoiling myself without breaking the bank and I would be happy to go back.

We booked for one night to use as a half way stopover after picking up our new car and couldn’t have been more pleased with our choice and luckily we had booked dinner too..

The room was just lovely, nice and warm and cosy , the bed was very comfortable and the amenities were good, maybe add a couple of extra sachets of coffee to the Kilner jar, we had a slight flood issue when the shower wouldn’t drain but it was quickly sorted and was fine after (sorry about the wet towels !)

The Covid precautions were very evident and well adhered too by staff and customers and we felt safe in the room, bar and restaurant areas

Now to the food ..we enjoyed a couple of sharing plates on arrival of soy and sesame beef and the white bait , both were excellent and very good value

In the evening we had our meal in the restaurant which was reassuringly busy for a Monday evening
Starters of pigeon and scallops were excellent and presented nicely
Mains of rump of lamb and duck were again superbly cooked to our liking (pink) and accompanying vegetables very good, our only comment would be that the mains were too large a portion and we had to leave some which was a shame and absolutely no reflection on the cooking or flavours , just to full !!
We couldn’t manage a dessert but as we were also celebrating our 20th anniversary we had a lovely decorated chocolate Brownie plate presented to us

Prices are very very reasonable as was the bar and wine list prices and given the room rate we had for B&b it all proved to be an excellent night away without breaking the bank !
Well done to all the team you deserve every success

We booked a Dine in a Dome here, which was £45 separately, and was lovely and had lights and air con. However on the confirmation email it said it could play music but there didn't seem to be any facilities to do this, nor were we told how to. When we arrived we were given a reduced menu, which we weren't told about, nor was it on the website, so we had to rethink what we were going to order after reading the menu on the website. But the food was really nice! However, the main issue was the service. Considering this was already quite an expensive experience, the staff seemed under trained and every question we asked them regarding drinks/food, they replied with saying they would have to check with their manager - this wouldn't usually be a problem, but it would take them a long time and, for example, when we asked if they serve cocktails, they came back to say their manager said they can serve us cocktails. To then later tell us that they actually can't anymore. We ended up feeling fairly disappointed by the service overall when we left.

The heating was on full blast in our room and we had no way of adjusting it, having to keep all windows wide open at all times, our stay was in January. Cleanliness wasn't quite there, especially in the bathroom, linen was ok though. Both the sink and the shower (no bath) only ran hot or very hot. We couldn't get any cold or cool water out of the shower at all. We were forced to wash in the sink, which couldn't be plugged/filled. When you ran the shower or sink tap, brown sludgy water would bubble up from between the floor tiles at the foot of the sink. Clearly the plumbing needs urgent attention. We stayed two nights, after our first night we were unable to shower so went to breakfast at 8:30 unwashed. Breakfast was due to start at 8:00 until 10:00. There were no staff in yet, our waitress arrived five minutes later citing staff illness/shortages. We raised the problems in our en suite and she informed us that the manager wasn't in until 10:30 but she would try and reach them for us. We had to go out at 10:30 to meet friends and wanted to shower prior. We never heard from the manager and had to wash in the sink. We returned late that day after our day out with friends to find the pub already closed down and staff all gone. Nothing had been done about our room or note left, no missed calls etc. There was a note pinned to the door to leave it unlocked for some late check-ins that night. I believe the late check-ins had the room above ours, highlighting how thin the walls and ceiling were in our room. If we had tried to go to sleep prior to about 11:30pm we would have been roundly awakened listening to our new friends clump around their room at length. The next morning I still couldn't find a manager, who arrives at 10:30am apparently, and check-out is also 10:30am. We left, disappointed at 10am, not wanted to stay any longer. The waitress assured us she would chase the manager regarding our issues but I don't expect to hear anything.

Very disappointing, ruined our evening. When we arrived the dome was filthy, old food remnants on the table, not laid out for us. After complaining the table was wiped and 10 minutes later the cutlery arrived with the manager. After another 10 minutes a tray of bread rolls and some olives arrived as compensation for the poor experience. Eventually we received menus with an extremely limited selection, hardly anything we really fancied, so we had fish & chips (x2), a burger, gammon and salmon (x2). Another 40 minutes elapsed before the food arrived and the portions were small, certainly not worth the monies paid. We wouldn't recommend this place to anyone and won't be returning.

When we arrived we were greeted by a lovely young man who checked us in and even checked our room to make sure everything was perfect. Room, on ground floor, was lovely. Good size room with generous bathroom. Room had two comfy chairs which was lovely as many hotels only have one as you get older sitting on the bed to watch tv is not good! Plenty of tea/coffee and nice toiletries. Went for dinner. Two lovely young ladies behind the bar and restaurant along with a charming young man. My first impression was how hard they worked. It was very busy and the three of them were running between bar and restaurant. Our meal was delicious and so well presented. Back to room, bed very comfy, pillows good so a good nights sleep was had. Breakfast was good. My husband had full English which he said was very good. I had poached eggs on toast. Unfortunately one egg was slightly undercooked but the other was fine. When travelling that way again we will definitely stay there. Having read some of the reviews , I wonder if you stayed in a different place to us of if you perhaps rarely stay away. Having used so many hotels both uk and around the world this one, in my opinion, is definitely in my top list. Thank you Ragged Cot.

This was our 3rd stay at The Ragged Cot. The first time was when it was newly opened and we were very impressed with the standard of the property and comfort of rooms and service. By our second visit there were new managers and standards had slipped somewhat but it was still a good place to stay. When we returned to stay for one night last week we were very disappointed with the whole experience. Once again management has changed. We were allocated a room with a broken glass in the window.. There were no comfortable chairs and the toilet was very badly stained. We asked to be given a different room but the manager informed us that the hotel was full and that this was not possible. He said a previous guest had broken the window. When we looked on line there were still rooms available. I think that the manager just couldn’t be bothered to move us. Although the cooked breakfast choices were good the selection of cold items was very poor with no fresh fruit. The folder in the room which was supposed to contain information about the hotel only had a scruffy piece of paper about covid in it. The whole place felt uncared for and the room we were given was probably one of the worst hotel rooms we’ve stayed in and is in no way the luxury experience described on the website or shown in pictures of the rooms..Unless we can be assured that things will radically change we will not be returning for a 4th visit!

We visited the ragged cot for a late lunch and unfortunately we were really disappointed.

We arrived at 4 and once seated we didn’t have anyone serve us until we got up and asked for drinks which was 35 minutes later. When the waiter arrived to take our order he was very blunt and made it seem like it was an inconvenience, he then proceeded to say ‘I know you’ve been waiting for like 3 hours but it’s been a busy lunch service’ not something we need to hear and quite frankly it isn’t something we should be concerned about.
If you can’t handle a busy lunch service then don’t allow people to book at 4 if you can’t provide a satisfactory service.

Our drinks then came out 20 minutes later by which time we had been sat for almost an hour and the lemonade was flat so we asked the waitress whether the lemonade gun was right, she went away and never came back so we had flat drinks.

The food was ok but unfortunately the service was terrible.

By the time we had finished a table had walked out because they were waiting over 30 minutes to be served for drinks.

When we paid for our meal the waiter said he knew it was a bad service but that was all. No hint of a sorry.

If you are looking for a nice place to eat with good service I wouldn’t recommend the ragged cot, there are far better places locally who are well equipped to serve people!

Dear HG2505 It is with deep disappointment that we have received such a review. Of course this is our first week of reopening after some months in lockdown and staff are still trying to find their feet. Yesterday our service was affected by a printer developing issues which we were not aware of until some time after and many service tickets were delayed as a result. We have taken your comments on board as a plan of action to ensure we do get this right in the future by keeping customers informed at all times. I have spoken to the duty manager and will of course be following this up with the waitress who did not resolve the drinks issue at the time. We would be grateful if could could email in with your contact details to info@theraggedcot-minchinhampton.com so that we may put this right. Kind regards Jason

A delightful small property located in beautiful Cotswold countryside. Upon entry we waited at the reception desk for 10-15 minutes to be checked in, when the staff acknowledged us but it was not clear who was going to serve us. We were told the restaurant was closed that evening too which was disappointing as we planned to eat at the property. We were taken to our room, which had a bath as requested. The room was cosy and inviting with shabby chic decor, with nice touches like the woollen blankets and hot water bottles. We had a very nice view looking into horse fields. The breakfast was of a very good quality and had a good selection. Overall a nice stay and would stay again.

We booked this accommodation based on previous reviews and it's proximity to Highgrove, we were not disappointed!

We were welcomed by Cosmina and shown to our room (6), it faces the main road which to my surprise wasn't too noisy. The room is a good size, with two arm chairs and an ensuite, with fab shower.

There is a large restaurant overlooking the garden terrace, but we opted for the dog friendly snug for a pre-dinner drink. We were served by Irina, very friendly and efficient considering how busy the pub was.

The Sunday lunch was simply delicious and we would recommend it, infact the menu, although slightly limited, was certainly ample and excellent quality. Our breakfast was cooked by Cosmina (delicious) and after a joke the night before, she even prepared fried bread, much to my partner's delight! And was served perfectly by Irina.

All the staff are lovely and provide great customer service, including Lydia and taking gentleman, whose name I didn't catch - apologies.
