My time at Hekerua Lodge was a backpacker’s wet dream. Here’s why: It’s just a cool spot. It has sort of a vintage backpacker feel to it that I love. It’s clean and well maintained, but it’s not a sterile, boring youth hostel. So if that’s what you’re looking for, go somewhere else (and get more adventurous). But it’s cool...

The place to be in Waiheke if you want spend a good time and forget the reality. I'm there for 3 months and 2 months as a woofer. So if you're looking for a good hostel, look no further... It's kind of paradise! We are waiting for you!

We had a terrible experience. On checking in, we couldn't find the manager for ages. Eventually we were given our room which requires a 5 digit code, which you would think is safe but twice our room was broken into, that we know of! The first instance, a crazy, hyper active girl breaks in and shouts at us all. We...

A little tricky for me to get to the actual building as there are some loose rocky steps from the road to the hostel,(or a tropical forested path from the other road to the backyard area) but a truly lovely spot. Pool hours are a bit limited too, but the openness of the living room area, the frequent use of...

Stayed for a weekend where the welcome was scant due to the clique that exists here. Constantly felt unwelcome for the whole stay. A couple of items were left behind by our group which magically disappeared even though staff said they were accounted for the day after we left. Nobody answered my calls or messages for a week and when...

We booked this place for a weekend away. What a mistake!!! We had food stolen, random people entering our key coded locked room at all times of the night and to top it all off they then charged my cc $100 for a carpet cleaning fee even though the place has wooden floors throughout !!! This was done without any consultation by...

Management response:

Hi Chris. Just to address a few of your points; we charged you a cleaning fee because your group spoiled the large rug in your room by trampling mud into it. The weekend you visited was wet and we asked everybody to take their shoes off before they came inside. Your group repeatedly ignored this. The rug in question is...

Great room upstairs. Never had to wait to use the bathroom or shower - both were kept really clean. The pillows and mattress protector were quite stained, so I'd suggest taking your own pillow. Large, well-equipped kitchen. The outdoor facilities are a bit messy/rundown. Unfortunately my favourite towel and my friends' jandals went missing so be careful what you leave...

Excellent location, nice room and very nice and fun people. It´s near the beach and the center of Oneroa. I like to come back. I prefer that the day, when I have to return, I can stay some hours more enjoy it.

Thank Pablo D
