We had a wonderful time with ruby and Joseph. We realy felt the life of the family, eat the local food, and we had very interesting conversations with them. They took us by their car to visit the area. Their hospitality is so welcoming and they are really very nice people.

Ruby and Thomas are very kind people.
They offer excellent home staying.
Everything was perfect, the food , the house , the tours to the dam , market , forest with waterfall , visiting the school...
The house is near the lake , it's so spacial and quite.
We felt like part of their family.
They did everything with all their heart and we felt it.
Both are very worm people.
Recommended staying there
For two or three days minimum.
We loved it..!!

With my wife, we stayed two nights in this Tabernacle homestay . The place is unique with stunning river views. The town of Thodupuzha is very well located as there a lot to visit around. The couple who run the house was very warm and realy listening us to adapt our wishes to their organization. City tour and shopping to do not miss. Tea plantations, rubber, pineapple, coffee ..... ect. The boat trip on the river was wonderful . We discovered countless vegetables from the region and also the regional cuisine. Ruby and Joseph, we have convinced of the beauty of this area and have a great sense of hospitality. You soon realize that what they do is not for money, but for the meeting and sharing of cultures. For not to be frustrated, we recommend that you allow at least three days on place. Another big thank you to Ruby and Joseph for their hospitality.

We had a wonderful 2 night stay with Thomas and Ruby. Our ground floor room was spacious and comfortable (lovely bed) with good shower facilities. Their riverside home is beautiful and it was a pleasure to share it with them for a short time.
The price you pay really is all inclusive, everything is included in your stay- sightseeing trips, food and drink, and even our laundry. Wifi is good.
However the real joy of this homestay is to enjoy the company of Ruby and Thomas who go out of their way to ensure that you have an good time.
On the first evening Thomas took us for a sightseeing drive. We saw a local viewing point, a dam, various crops growing locally and a lovely sunset.
The next morning Ruby and a friend took us to the pedestrian bridge over the river and then on to see a rubber plantation and a tapioca field. We also saw cashew nuts growing for the first time. But the highlight was when Ruby managed to find pineapples being harvested. One of the workers prepared a pineapple for us to eat out in the field.
Later Ruby and Thomas took us to the fruit and veg markets then in the evening before dinner a cookery demonstration was given by a local chef. The food was fabulous.
On the morning that we left it was Thomas's birthday so we were able to share his birthday breakfast.
We were really sad to leave and have no hesitation in recommending a stay at this lovely homestay.

We stayed two nights at this wonderfully welcoming homestay where our very kind and hospitable hosts, Thomas and Ruby, did their utmost to make us feel at home in their most comfortable house overlooking the river. Thomas took the time to take us through some lovely countryside to Thattekkad bird sanctuary very early in the morning, while Ruby supplied us with a picnic breakfast. Later in the day we enjoyed a cooking demonstration with the dishes becoming part of yet more delicious home cooked Keralan cuisine and next day Ruby took us shopping, especially to the vegetable stall where she introduced us to the many new vegetables . We so enjoyed talking to such delightful and generous hosts about their culture, cuisine and their part of Kerala. We would highly recommend a stay at Tabernacle and we hope to return one day. Thank you so much.

We spent two nights with Ruby and her family as part of a cycling trip around Kerala in January 2012. Everything from the very first moment was exceptional. Wonderful warm welcome with a very nice drink too! Lovely comfortable clean rooms, beautiful terrace overlooking the river (excellent for birdwatching over tea). Then there was the food...it was a real joy to experience absolutely delicious authentic Keralan cuisine (in vast quantities - not so conducive to cycling!). They even catered for my gluten-free diet with no fuss whatsoever. And not least, we had the benefit of the ever-attentive, helpful, friendly Ruby, anxious to cater to our every whim and make sure we did not miss out on the people, sites, colours and flavours of genuine India, including trips to the vegetable shop, department store and a boat trip down the river. An unforgettable experience (and an education too!).

We visited the Tabernacle Homestay last week, it was our first experience of a homestay in India or indeed anywhere and what a great experience it was. Ruby the lady of the house could not have been more attentive and friendly. The bedroom was very comfortable and within the house but in a separate part of the house from the owners accommodation.
Ruby took us all around the local area (which is beautiful). We saw rubber tree tapping, swam in the river at the bottom of the garden and visited a local waterfall which we went to with Thomas, Ruby's husband. The food was delicious planned to allow all visitors to taste the local dishes. Ruby had even got a chef from the local hotel to come and do a cookery demonstration. Nothing was too much trouble.
Ruby organised for me to have an Ayurvedic massage and Thomas drove me there and collected me afterwards. We wanted to buy a toy auto rickshaw for our grandson and they took us to several local shops to find one. We would thoroughly recommend a stay in this lovely homestay.

The state of Kerala is famous for its Government-approved homestays. We stayed in several and all were unique. Some were on farms and historic plantations, others in comfortable homes although the bedrooms are usually quite plain. All are run by delightful, educated couples who spoke excellent English and love meeting new people. Ruby and Dr.Thomas Joseph went out of their way to look after us and welcome us into their home set above a lovely clear-flowing river. We only had one night and day with them but they managed to take us on an interesting tour of the area to see rubber plantations and tapioca farms. The also took us on an early morning excursion on the river in a small wooden boat which collected us from their garden steps. Ruby cooked the most delicious meals from local ingredients and the generous array of dishes at lunch, breakfast and dinner were truly memorable. They sent us on our way with recipes, gifts and much warmth. We feel we have made some very special new friends for life.

We didn't know what to expect when we signed up for a homestay, certainly didn't expect to find a home away from home. The Tabernacle Homestay is the lovely private home of Ruby and Dr. Thomas. The house and grounds are warm and welcoming and the atmosphere is relaxing and caring, with the river flowing gracefully alongside the garden. The town of Thodupuzha has affluent, well kept attractive homes and gardens on both sides of the road. The rubber and pineapple plantations are close-by and interesting to visit and in the late afternoon/early evening a slow boat ride down the river to view the flora, fauna and lifestyle along the riverside is a balm for any pain, stress or pressure you may have brought with you to this paradise. The food was delicious. At lunck we were invited to enjoy a special holiday type of meal, served on a banana leaf with our lovely host and hostess overseeing the ceremony dressed in typical South Indian clothes. We had an interesting cooking lesson in the evening with ongoing commentary about the types of fruits and vegetables that are used in the local recipes and that are generally available off the trees growing lushly all around us. The company of Ruby and Thomas and the other guests made the time spent with them fly by and too soon we had to leave. Thank you Ruby for sharing your home and world with us and thank you Thomas for being so helpful and supportive of Ruby and her enterprise. We wish you much health and happiness.

We also expected Ruby to be our hostess, but instead, her sisters, Lucy and Molly, and pastor Binou, were there. They were so helpful and friendly, accompanying us some of our field trips around Thodupuzha. They suggested we visit a rubber plantation which was so interesting. We also went off to the Thattekad Bird Sanctuary which is nearby. The food was plentiful and delicious. Our room was big and comfortable-no air conditioning, but a very nice ceiling fan. The bathroom was also clean. The back porch fronted right on the river. We saw and heard so many birds! The only downside was that the house is also close to a busy road, so there were the sounds of traffic at night and in the early morning.
