We visited in December 2016 and can describe the hotel in one word - wonderful! A great place to stay. It is situated in the "Old Town" beside the cathedral. If you arrive in Cuenca by bus,(we came from Madrid) exit the bus station and cross directly to the other side of the road and take the bus number 1....

We were at Cuenca and we loved the all old city, by chance we asked for a room at the Posada San Jose and they had it at a very reasonable price, taking in consideration this is Xmas season. They gave us room 21, this room has a fantastic view to the valley and a beautiful varanda! Taking in consideration...

The "posada" is a real Inn in the middle of the old city. Literally in the midst of town's life surrounded by Cuenca's sights and restaurants, However it is peaceful and quiet inside its clean and beautiful decor. The staff are very friendly and the beds comfortable.I regret not having more time to spend another night because Cuenca is worth...

We traveled to Spain with friends who are well familiar with the area, and they booked a side trip from Madrid to Cuenca. This was one of the highlights of our trip. Cuenca is a charming village perched on a ridge between two gorges. The Posada de San Jose is a small hotel just behind the main Cathedral square. It...

I opted for a single room with shared bath for 30 euro. Stayed four nights. I love the small room that used to house monks. I felt I was in an authentic place in Spain. Everything including shared bath was spotlessly clean and comfortable. People at reception nice and helpful. Breakfast is well worth the 9 euro. Would definitely recommend...

This charming hotel has maintained its history and has the most wonderful atmosphere. It has been refurbished just enough to be comfortable but maintains its beautifully polished ancient floor tiles, rambling corridors, crooked beams and windows, and slightly sloping floors - I don't think you could find a single right angle in the whole building. The restaurant was excellent, with...

Spent one night at this historical hotel in the center of Cuenca during the first night of the San Mateo festival ... crazy crazy crazy ... but the hotel is beyond any regular review as its of the scale in ambiance, charme and history. Will go back ... but maybe not during the San Mateo:-)

I can understand how some people see this as a restaurant trying to be something it is not. It sells basically local dishes as if it is a more upmarket restaurant and you pay that little bit extra for this and the fantastic view from the terrace. Nevertheless we were quite happy with our choice of sharing four of the...

Yes, tricky to get there - but this adds to excitement! Old hotel with a labyrinth of corridors but these lead to rooms of all size and proportion. Room 5 was just perfect! Lovely cosy room with the most amazing balcony! Views were extremely pleasant to wake up to! Breakfast was lovely and in a room with further fabulous views....

We were recommended the Posada by a friend who knows Cuenca well, and were delighted to find it more than lived up to expectations. It is a lovely old building, characterful and quirky, and cool in spite of the heat. Our room (33) had not one but two terraces, both with stunning views over the gorge. The bathroom was a...
