The BNB is around 4 kms out of town in a very peaceful location. Very clean and well maintained and Judy is the ideal host.

The room has a comfortable queen bed, 2 lounge chairs and a table with chairs. The small kitchenette has a microwave, fridge, electric kettle, coffee maker, toaster and Judy had stocked the fridge with essentials (milk, butter, eggs, yogurt, bread, etc) plus provided a good selection of breakfast cereals, spreads, etc. The room also contained a collection of books and magazines.

The bathroom is a good size and spotlessly clean and there is a private courtyard with table and chairs.

Peaceful, tranquil garden setting. Very private. Room was so big, light and tastefully decorated. Judy the host is lovely and had thought of everything! Breakfast range was great. Excellent touches in furnishings, things to do to relax. A magnificent place to get away from it all! Bathroom was excellent. Bed was comfy. Everything was clean. Great value for everything you get for the price. I look forward to returning and wish I could have stayed longer.

Was not sure what to expect but as soon as we arrived we felt it was right for us. A little too far to walk to Torquay town but you get peace and quite with a nice private courtyard and a lovely room and large private ensuite.
Judy the friendly host is lovely and supplies some very nice tasty goodies for do it yourself breakfast Fresh Bread, local jams and eggs. Lots of other breakfast choices.
Bed is comfy and facilities were very clean even though it was quite chilly outside the room heater warmed it to toasty inside. The B&B is attached to the main house but no noise and completely private. Judy dropped off fresh supplies each morning but kept her appearances to a minimum which was just right for us.
Really enjoyed our stay and will stay again when next in the area.

We stayed at Torquay Toongahra B&B for one night in October as part of a driving tour in the Grampians and the Great Ocean Road. Our rating can't help but be influenced by the three previous nights in absolutely wonderful B&Bs along the way. This one, by comparison, was totally adequate - but nothing special. The location is pretty remote, in the outskirts of Torquay on the inland side. This is good, because it is very quiet. The room is good sized - really a small efficiency apartment on the side of the house. Everything was reasonably clean and comfortable - though maybe slightly musty (didn't bother us, but someone very sensitive might notice). Our hostess greeted us warmly, then showed us our breakfast: some store-bought breads and cereals, tea bags and powdered coffee, plus some eggs and a set of instructions on how to make scrambled eggs in the microwave (!). Then she requested payment and said goodbye, saying it was more convenient that way; we wouldn't have to find her in the morning. Really, this was OK with us, but it was a bit of a let down after some of the friendly hosts and fabulous breakfasts we had just experienced. This B&B would be ideal for those who just want to be left alone in a quiet, rural setting. For us, it was an OK place to spend the night, that's all.

Response from Judy D, Owner at Torquay Toongahra BnB
Responded 28 Nov 2011
Hi BethesdaT Thanks for your review and although disappointed that you did not find everything quite as you expected we are pleased you liked the setting, spaciousness and comfort. Our apologies if you noticed a hint of mustiness, we clean the room with care for each stay and can only think it may have related to the exterior painting earlier in the week at the rear of the en suite. We can find no trace of it now. I am so glad you felt welcomed and of course I would have been happy for you to settle the account with me in the morning, I try to make it easier for single night guests Our popularity is usually because of the private room and courtyard with its’ separate entrance so people can enjoy their stay without disturbance. I always offer my availability with the bell direct to our part of the house for any assistance and my mobile no. in case I am outside of the house. The range of breakfast provisions grew over time beyond our fresh fruit bowl, tomato, selection of cereals, local jams and honey, yoghurt, juice, milk, two choices of fresh breads, range of teas and coffees to also include the option of cooking baked beans and our own fresh eggs to give even more than the a continental breakfast. Although not ideal for all, the microwave fits with our type of set up avoiding cooking odours and mess in the room and we differ from some Bed and Breakfast places where you sit within the host’s house for a full cooked breakfast or a place with a separate kitchen. Thanks again for your feedback. Judy.

We had a great stay at this b&b. Loved the beautiful, clean bathroom (& amazing shampoo/conditioner - essential oils!). The bed was very comfortable with electric blankets being a lovely touch. Loved the provision of dvds, games (e.g. cards) & books. Breakfast was a reasonably standard continental breakfast but with lovely touches of fresh sourdough, berries, alongside boutique jams and honeys. Judy was a warm host & has done a great job in creating a wonderful environment with this b&b.

A very comfortable and welcomng BnB. It is a few km out of the centre of the town so you do need car, but once you have settled into the BnB you realise that the hostess, Judy, has provided almost everything you need for your comfort. The room is tastefully furnshed and clean and the bed is very comfortable. There is a DVD player and DVDs and the breakfast that is provided has everything you might want with fresh bread, eggs, yogourt, fruit and all sorts of spreads and a variety of tea and coffee. There is also a very nice, private, little garden/terrace area and you might even get a visit – if you chose – from the owner's tabby cat. Very very nice place to stay.

We made last minute booking and arrived rather late. We were graciously greeting and some extra food (in addition to a great breakfast spread) was provided so we didn't have to figure out dinner plans. A very lovely and quaint place with a private outside patio, very hip/modern bathroom and a lovely host. Comfortable bed with heating blanket as well as wall board heating. Very quiet location just outside of town. Only only regret is we didn't stay two nights!

Spent two wonderful nights in this comfortable B&B where Judy our host had well extended her duty of care! Fresh bread, yogurt, orange juice and strawberries awaited us along with choc brownies and chocolates next to the bed. A beautiful bunch of proteas enhanced a spacious immaculately clean bathroom, with white towels, a hairdryer, a home away from home. Enjoyed a quiet meditation early morning listening to the birds in the private courtyard. Excellent location if you want quiet and time-out but close enough with a short drive into Torquay for a good coffee and dinner. We will definitely be back!

This is a wonderful B&B. It's a couple of kms out of Torquay, so you do need a car. However, Judy the owner was a wonderful host, making us feel right at home. The B&B is just the one room at the side of Judy's home. It has it's own outside space and is completely self contained. The facilities are great and the room is really clean and comfortable. Judy had the room extremely well stocked for us in terms of our breakfast and a welcoming afternoon brownie with fresh strawberries! Fresh bread from the local bakery, local jam and numerous other items meant we could make ourselves a wonderful breakfast (and more) at a time that suited us! Highly recommended.

Stayed here during the rip curl pro and was really impressed with the standard. Super clean and modern, awesome brekky and close to shops. Judy was really relaxed to and had even left us out some hot cross buns as it was Easter! Would definitely recommend to others
