We stayed in the former stables of the old gaol in Bicheno for two nights. It was a thoroughly relaxing time in the middle of a driving holiday in Tasmania. The cottage was spacious, with a queen bed, a lounge, small table and two chairs and a separate kitchen and bathroom. Conveniently located to the IGA supermarket if you want...

How often do you get to sleep in a gaol? (don't answer that question...) We stayed two nights in the gaol and were totally in love with the place. The cottage is lovingly restored, with so much charm it'll have you taking photos of every room. The goal section dates back to the 1860's and the later section (lounge/kitchen) were...

Bicheno seemed to have been entirely booked out, so we found ourselves trawling the streets of this lovely town for somewhere to spend the night. Finally, we managed to secure The Stables, one of the three self contained cottages comprising the Bicheno Gaol Cottages. Magically, a rabbit ran across the garden seemingly to greet us. Our timber cottage was tucked...

Stayed one night, pity wished it was not more. Our Canadian friend went from room to room taking photos all the time saying Omg. Continental breakfast was an added bonas. Treat yourself and stay there. It is well restored and decorated keeping a lot of the original features. We loved it.

Loved the thrill of spending the night in this very old place... a historical jail converted into cottages perfect for travellers who love to feel a little bit of the past atmosphere. It was pretty spooky but that's the reason why we choose to stay in this place... the experience was so amazing and different....

This was a beautiful place to stay. The cottage was different and very interesting which made for an enjoyable stay. We had to go and collect the keys from Silver Sands (a motel down the road). The lady was very rude and when we informed her that the cottage was lovely although 90% of the butters/spreads were about a year...

Stayed three nights over Christmas. Cottage in need of paint, and although the bedding was fresh and we had clean towels, the bathroom had not been cleaned. The cottage was dusty and the crockery looked as though it had been passed through cold water. Greasy plates. My memory of quoted price differed from what we were charged. Not sure who...

These cottages are managed by Silver Sands Motel where you need to obtain the key. Note this motel doesn't have disabled access to reception but the staff were friendly. At the cottages, stayed in the the Old Schoolhouse. Ramp to front door and Queen bed on ground floor. Two singles beds are on the mezannine floor. Disabled bathroom is well...
