A very good range of draft Boutique beers and sold at a reasonable price. Its an old pub tarted up quite nicely and exudes atmosphere. The meals served looked good and they too were at a reasonable price.

We had read the reviews and were hoping for something better. We went to the bistro for a quick lunch. There weren't many people other people there. We ordered the burger and the prawns. The burger was good but prawns were only ok and there was a long wait. Maybe we just went on a off day.

5 star restaurant food quality at a bar! All the staff either at the bar or in the restaurant were all very polite and professional. Every single dish we had had the most beautiful presentation and really good portion sizes. Unfortunately we didn't have an entree but found with the portion sizes of the main and dessert that it wasn't...

We have eaten here a few times now and find the food and drinks are always excellent. The menu I think changes every 3 months and it is so good to eat there and the very friendly service. The free pick up from your hotel and again back after eating is great. Looking forward to coming back in maybe April...

I had the Open face steak sandwich . Steak was melt in your mouth, caramelised onion was sensational, and the mustard sauce was perfect. Service was quick and pleasant. Atmosphere was very well done. Relaxed ... friend had the burger it was well dressed and served on a hamburger bun no Brioche! Which I think is fantastic

I thoroughly enjoyed my evening at 221. Service was efficient and friendly and I enjoyed my meal accompanied by a local red. I had oysters followed by salmon and both were very good. The restaurant has a very pleasant ambience too.

Went here with family for an evening meal. We are from the more limited pub menu but the food was really good. Very tasty, high quality ingredients cooked perfectly. The gluten free pizza base is a bit disappointing but then they always are. It was a shame to put such great ingredients on such a poor base. This doesn't detract...

Lovey old country pub which looked newly renovated. We came in through the back via the carpark wondering why on Christmas Eve there were no people in the restaurant. The very friendly owner greeted us when we walked in. He told us a 1 1/2 hour blackout in the area had shut them down, they had only just had the...

Spending a night in Cessnock, I was recommended to try the Royal Oak's restaurant 221. My wife and I had an entree of scallops and the Grimaud duck as main. A delight in presentation, in taste. Cooked to perfection. Couldn't leave without congratulating the chef.

If you are a beer drinker in the Hunter life is not easy. And then we discovered The Royal Oak Hotel on the main drag in Cessnock. We have seen many pubs that look great from the outside but then disappoint inside. Not The Royal Oak! The interior is friendly and inviting. There are comfy leather couches in between the...

“The hotel's rooms are near a set of traffic lights where the local "hoons" do tend to drag off. If loud noises worry you... bring ear plugs or have another couple of drinks in the bar before bed.”
