Visitors: Shaam-E-Sarhad is an eco-resort built in a Kutchi village-style setting using locally sourced materials and crafts of the region. It is owned and managed by the Hodka village community and is open only from October to March. The resort promotes Endogenous Tourism where one travels not just for pleasure, but also to appreciate local community and their life in rural Gujarat. "The Endogenous Tourism Project in Hodka village seeks to promote local culture and craft based tourism for sustainable livelihoods and integrated rural development. Its aim is to improve the local people's quality of life, by creating more livelihood options, while preserving and allowing the community to develop their unique culture and share it with visitor."~ The use of local architectural style, the intricate art & crafts is very evident as soon as one enters Shaam-E-Sarhad (translated 'Sunset at the border'). Hodka village is not very far from the Rann of Kutch region which shares the border with Pakistan.

Detailed Reviews
The bhungas are spacious, clean and comfortable. The resort is in Hodka village, about 20 mins away from the rann utsav and the rann. Roads to the rann are very good.
This place is run by locals from the Hodka village and their Panchayat. Service is good, but not exceptional.
Food was average, and the variety served for breakfast needs to be improved

Run by the local community, Shaam-E-Sarhad is a home away from home. The quaint Bhungas and Tents are beautifully decorated with local handicraft.
The food was delicious. (You're definitely going to take another helping)
A special mention to the gracious and kind staff (Rashid Bhai, Suni, Ramjan, Mustak, Ravi, Manoj, Tusinu, Ramjan, Lalu)
Their ever smiling faces always made you feel welcome.
Had a wonderful stay here. Will definitely visit again.

This is a beautiful place to stay in the middle of the desert. Very well maintained property and very good staff. I Enjoyed my stay here thoroughly. The resort name was Shaam e sarhad village Resort. We were three people staying in the houses there known as hut. The toilets were net and clean! Strongly recommend this place to visit once😃. Room were large in size so that people can stay comfortable. Don't forget to taste there food. Food was awesome in taste and delicious 😋. Atmosphere were too good with fresh air. Seriously me and my friends enjoy a lot and made a good memories there. And yes if you are planning to visit there u have to book in advance so don't forget this..

I had stayed at shaam e sarhad resort on 26th Jan. The huts are large and lovely. But the food still makes me cringe. Here's why : For lunch we were given bottle gourd and cabbage. I asked about the dinner vegetables but was told it would depend on what was coming from bhuj. At dinner we were served bhindi and sev tomato (there was only a piece or two of tomato rest was sev, I think there was a bit of tomato left over so they filled up the dish wirh sev). 3 other guests said that the previous night they were served bhindi and sev tomato so why repeat so they were served the afternoon cabbage and bottle gourd.
Immediately after eating both me and my friend realized that we were served the previous day's leftovers. We had a bad stomach upset and since we were self driving we had to stop 12-14 times on the way. Even today we are in a bad shape and bed ridden because we had not eaten anything while driving since we were puking even electrol water
It's sad as the place itself is amazing.

This is very good experience to live in bhungas and something different from hotel or other resorts. This is very beautiful property to live in kutch. And staf member and service is also good.

Probably the only place in Kutch, which is true to its spirit of offering flavros and hospitality. One can feel the warmth in the people who manage them and the way they take care of you. Located a little far from the urban area of Bhuj (which is actually its USP), Shaam-E-Sarhad is appropriately named and located, in the middle of wilderness and next to the Hodka village. It was fun reaching there as I had ventured from Ahmedabad and only gotten in its vicinity at midnight, where moon-light was the only light that could be seen in any distance. But after retiring into the tents, which I must say, are very clean and well-kept, I had the most comfortable sleep ever. The nights are very cold in Kutch and temperature was way below but the tents were nice and cozy. The place serves great food, almost home-made, and is maintained by the locals. One is astonished to speak with them in English and Hindi and they are very fluent and hospitable. The place is nicely lit up in the night when one of the local music groups come and play and one can have great fun listening to them. I had an enormously great time here and I would love to come back. The only downside is making a reservation: phone does not work and one has to rely on emails which are not answered quickly. Other than that, it's a must-visit place.

+1
Went on a road trip to Hodko and Dhordo from Bhuj. The route is excelled. Scenic. enjoyed the drive. Stayed at Shaam-e-Sarhad, a resort operated by village cooperative body. a really great initiate to promote livelihood and local culture. All the staff members are from local villages. You can see the local colors and taste in the construction, furniture, fabrics and food.
But one has to keep their expectations low as the staff members are local facilities are limited in this remote location.
Folk music at night by locals was fascinating.

I wanted to show my dad some glimpses of the Rann of Kutch. He was visiting us after 2 years. He is well travelled and I wanted to show him something he had never seen.
The weather was perfect and the unending salt desert is something unique in this world. Its location near the Pak border just added to the allure.
I was not sure what to expect at this resort. The reason to choose this resort was that it is inside the Great Rann of Kutch. It was recommended to me by a friend.
The decor and architecture is very special. It is designed to look like a Kutchi village. Everything is made of clay: the bed, the sofa, the walls, the water bottle (hindi - suraahee), the periphery, the fence, the pots, the oven, even the 'tavaa'.
It is simply something to be experienced.
It is located inside the Banni grasslands. It is a unique ecology.
The staff is friendly. They are locals from the village. They understand Hindi, Gujarati and Kutchi.
They offer 2 types of accommodation: tents and mud huts (called Bhoongaas).
Food has a local flavour and is terrific.
The local attractions are amazing and very much unique and exclusive to this region. Must visit:
a) the White Rann at Dhordo village
b) Kala Raksha crafts village
c) Kala Dungar (must see the feeding of the jackals at sunset)
d) India Bridge (last civilian point before the Pak border)
e) Chhari Dhand lake (a must for bird watchers)
f) If you follow archaeology, you must visit Dholavira (though it is a bit far).
Best time to visit: November to March. Summers can be killing!
Roads are damn good. Almost no traffic.
This has to be experienced.
