A must see when visiting Russell. Russell was once known as the Hell Hole of the Pacific, is now a charming place to visit. The Duke of Marlborough is a lovely hotel with plenty of history. Lovely location overlooking the Bay. We stopped in and had a couple of Gin & Tonics in the lounge. We had other dinner plans,... More

As always the Dike delivered. The service, food and accomodation is always consistently great. It is a stand out for a great meal and the deck of the Duke can't be beaten for a easy and convivial business lunch. All the food for our team was great but the waitbait sandwich was the winner I think. The rooms are great... More

As part of a trip around the North Island, my friend and I booked a waterfront room at The Duke of Marlborough for a couple of nights. We took our vehicle on the punt which leaves from Opua - it only cost $12.50 including passengers, and was far easier than parking at Pahia, and taking our luggage on the ferry,... More

We stayed at the Duke of Marlborough for three nights and were rather disappointed in it. Undoubtedly the location is lovely-right in the middle of the beautiful shoreline at Russell. It is an older hotel, and has the feeling of a comfortable, worn -many-times jacket. A little bit of shabbiness can be cosy, and quite attractive, and can also create... More

A very nice place to relax for four nights, part way through a World Trip, in the peaceful surroundings of Russell and the Bay of Islands. An historic building close to the waters edge and convenient for ferries to Piahia. Great food, nice rooms, pleasant, hard working, and helpful staff.

My title says it all. The Duke is perfectly situated on the beach looking across the waters to Paihia. Room 2 is perfect. Huge bed, nice bathroom and great views. We eat dinner twice. The menu is interesting and the quality of food and cooking was really good. Breakfast is only continental, but more than adequate.

a beautiful setting on a gorgeous evening. Food was generally good with just a few minor issues worth mentioning such as shell in every oyster which was unpleasent and a chipped wine glass. entree of fish platter for 2 was delicious. wait staff were friendly and helpful. Main dissapointment was that we arrived just after 5pm to get a prime... More

Stayed at this hotel for 3 nights on a recent trip to this part of NZ. Booked into the 'Bungalow', self catering canin next to the hotel but part of same management. This 'bungalow' is very basic and with a bit of thought could have been so much nicer. It is dark and the room hot..... Furnishings and decorating ?... More

We had a very special formal dinner party for my Mother's 70th birthday. We were very impressed by the staff and catering. Each course was top notch, and we are still talking about it with friends. The location on the water front is amazing, especially twilight drinks and canapés on the veranda. We would like to thank Tony and Vincent,... More
