Visited at short notice, arriving at 9pm. The accomodation is quite central in Russell. Barry the host was very welcoming, friendly and full of good advice and offers of cups of tea etc. The old cottage is quirky and has charm, but woefully grubby-could do with a spring clean. We slept in a double bed in the old caravan at...

Short notice and a 9pm arrival gave me no chance to do other than change linen. If bookings are received in normal conditions the ' sunshine supervan' would have been aired, vacuumed and sufaces wiped down. We had also just experienced a weather bomb over two days so polished floors etc were well covered in muddy footprints. Agree that the cobwebs...

Barry was a fantastic host, and runs a very good value backpacker/home-stay type accommodation. His local advice, and his stories about his life and family were very entertaining and engaging. The room is adequate for the cost, and offers something way more low key and homely compared to most other accommodation in town, and way better value than what a...

Really enjoyable stay at Pukeko Cottage, Barry is a wonderful host and you felt like you were staying with friends. The animals (dog, cats, chickens) are lovely too and all facilities were fine for what you needed.

I stayed only for three days in the 1950's campervan. The place is really nice, cozy, comfortable bed and all the facilities that you may need. The house is reallly nice, clean and tidy and it has the most lovely backyard and stunning views of Matauwhi Bay on one side and Russell wharf on the other. Barry, the host, is...

Friendly and cheerful host ....we stayed in the old caravan and the bed was good...other bedrooms in the house looked clean and comfortable but we liked the added privacy of the caravan..close to russell main street and host picked us up from the ferry on the first night. Would recommend this place as good value and comfortable.

I felt as if i had known the host all my life and was welcome into his home as if i had. Barry is charming, interesting and helpful that is actually addressing the need of the visitor. The Pukeko cottage is excellent ...enough to overlook the dear, smelly dog. Thank you ... Omni

Great place to base your Bay of Islands adventures from. Barry is a great host, with heaps of local knowledge. The chickens and Lottie the dog added their own charm to our stay. The cottage is a short walk from the main street of Russell.

We spent 3 nights at Pukeko cottage and thought it was the perfect balance between a backpackers and a home stay. The walk up the hill to get to the cottage is definitely worth it for the amazing views- we loved having cups of tea and sitting on the little deck looking out over the harbour. Barry and Jane were...

We booked the 'blue room' for 2 nights - room was ample with a great view and a balcony...bonus! Barry, the owner, welcomed us into his home and showed us around, also intoduced us to his 2 cats! The only negative is the small kitchen, but we made it work! All in all a great little place to stay for...
